10 Thoughts on the NHL Season

  1. Vegas Golden Knights- The 31st team of the league is finally here. The Vegas Golden Knights are picked to be in the basement in their first year in the league. I am part of the minority in saying I do not think they will be as bad as people are making them out to be. Will that be the case? Only time will tell.
  2. Situation in Winnipeg- The Jets signed goaltender Steve Mason to be their starter. With fire power like Wheeler, Laine, and Scheiffele, the Jets believe they can get into the playoffs. All of that hope rides on Mason in net. Starts from him on out.NHL Draft Hockey
  3. The Rangers at the Center Position- With the trade of Stepan to Arizona in the summer, the Rangers left a hole at the center position. They are starting the season with Chytil at center, but that could just be an option for the first few games. We will wait and see on how they will address the situation and if the centers are a glaring problem.
  4. Dallas Stars- Dallas and general manager Jim Nill made big moves in the offseason signing Ben Bishop, Alex Radulov, Martin Hanzal, and trading for defenseman Marc Methot. The chips are there for Dallas to compete and potentially come out of the Western Conference. They need to be able to put the puck in the net to compete.
  5. Young guys ruling the league- The NHL is dominated by young guys and it is fun to watch. With the likes of Patrik Laine, Connor McDavid, and Auston Matthews giving us highlight reel goals every night, we are lucky. Plenty of young guys both on the blue line and up front to keep our eyes glued to the television.
  6. Eichel’s contract- Buffalo found their man and he got paid. Jack Eichel signed a 8 year contract worth 80 million dollars. That is a ton of term and money to lock up on a guy that is only 20 years old. Buffalo invested in Eichel, it is time for him to put up the numbers.usa_today_9936467.0
  7. Colorado Avalanche- Colorado is coming off an abysmal year in which they only accumulated 22 wins the entire year. It is almost impossible to be that bad in consecutive seasons, but I am intrigued to see how this team with a young coach and young core respond after a tough year last year.
  8. Stamkos back for Tampa- A healthy Steven Stamkos is back and ready for business for the Lightning. They need him to put up points, and a lot of people believe they can win the cup this year, myself included. Look for Stamkos to have a monster year and rack up the points.
  9. Metro Division- The metropolitan division is stacked and probably the best division in the league. With the Pens, Caps, Rangers, Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, and Islanders all potential playoff suitors, the race in this division will be a crazy one. The race for the division title in March will be something to watch.
  10. Pittsburgh Penguins 3-peat? Pittsburgh, after winning their second cup in a row last year, are looking to go back to back to back. Do they have the firepower and the players to do it? It will be interesting to watch how this season plays out for the boys in black and gold.
