NHL: Islanders drop to St. Louis in SO, Tarasenko 2-goal game

Islanders drop a close on in a shootout as they rally back from 2-0. Goal scorers for the Islanders were Andrew Ladd(1) and Andres Lee(1), as Vladimir Tarasenko buried two goals and the game-winning shootout goal for St. Louis.

As both teams had 12-penalty minutes apiece they both saw their fair share of power play time. The only difference was the Blues went 1/6 on their power play opportunities and the Islanders went 0/6. An even game across the board as both teams had 13 blocks, 20 hits, 50% faceoffs and 2 takeaways. The only difference here though the Islanders had 14 giveaways, the Islanders were poor on their power play and St. Louis capitalized on the Islanders miscues. In a third period though it was all Islanders as they threw a game-high 16 shots on net. The Islanders ended up scoring both their goals in the third but could not hold on for a win.

The overtime was a back and forth heart wrenching experience to encounter, which both teams saw positives from. The Islanders have shown signs of struggle and signs of positives thus far this year, right now their identity is a question mark. The Islanders take on the Anaheim Ducks for their West Coast trip starting Wednesday night.
