Auston’s Powers: Auston Matthews capped a heroic comeback against the Chicago Blackhawks. Down 3-1, the Leafs score 2 goals on Anton Forsberg by Nikita Zaitsev and James Van Riemsdyk to tie the game up. Then in overtime Auston Matthews did Auston Matthews things, and ripped a wrister from the right-side dot over the shoulder of Forsberg to get the Leafs off to a great 3-0-0 start.
Yak Attack: Nail Yakupov scored 2 goals in the Avalanche’s shutout win over the Boston Bruins. Yakupov was on the verge of being ousted from the NHL after being the 1st overall pick in 2012 by the Edmonton Oilers. He signed a deal with Colorado for a new start and has made an impact so far this year. Playing on a dominant line of Yakupov-Duchene-Kerfoot, Yakupov has very high possession numbers (60% + CF%) and has added 2G-1A-3P in 3 games so far for the Avs. All hopes are he can make a name for himself, and this Avalanche team looks much stronger and faster than last season. With an offense like theirs, do not be surprised if they stay competitive throughout the season.
Lil Bratt: Jesper Bratt scored twice for the Devils in their 6-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. This young Devils team has great speed and skill. Bratt was snuck under other rookies like Will Butcher and Nico Hischier. After a 3-point night, Bratt is up to 5 points in 2 games so far, this year. If the Devils offense can stay consistent, Schneider can push the Devils into a hunt for a playoff spot as the season goes on.
