Vegas Golden Knights are 3-0. Enough said. Senators go past regulation once again but this time they pick up a 3-2 shootout win over Vancouver.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals: 7:30 p.m. (NBCSN)
NHL game of the night/week. The Capitals after getting edged out by Pittsburgh time and time again get to welcome the former Stanley Cup champions to their home ice. Pittsburgh will be without Ian Cole, the Penguins defense will not see anything new facing Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals though. Although Ovi is off to a hot start with seven goals in three games, the Penguins have a long history with this guy. No matter how both teams have played up until this point, it means absolutely nothing. When a playoff atmosphere type of game comes onto the schedule, the team’s pasts mean nothing. Sidney Crosby will look to push past Braden Holtby and the Capitals today in the tfirst meeting of many for these two this season.
Sidney Crosby vs Alexander Ovechkin debate continues on, which is better, who would you rather have to start a franchise, these two have been enemies/allies since being drafted into the league a year apart. Ovechkin known for his goal scoring and physical ability as Crosby will hear the fans of Washington “boo-ing” and screaming all night for his “antics” and just flat out the ability he possesses to be the best player on the ice every shift.
Murray vs Holtby will be a topic of discussion tonight as Murray has taken down the Capitals in recent years and Holtby has faced his tough times vs Pittsburgh in years past. Murray at age 22-years-old faces off against one of the best goalies in hockey right now. Who can rise to the occasion and help their team to victory?
Some dark horse players to watch tonight are players like Bryan Rust, Patric Hornqvist, Jakub Vrana, Andre Burakovsky these players have played significant roles on their teams in years past but both teams have lost players in the offseason allowing these guys to step up and play an expanded role. It will come down to the depth guys tonight, players like these.
