Before the NHL goes full tilt tomorrow, tonight, Friday, October 13 features five NHL games, and not to sound like a bore, but some of these games stink! I mean yeah, it’s NHL hockey but early in the year we don’t see too many “hot” games, usually some cross-divisional play, West Coast trips, but don’t worry with these games tonight means the picking is easy(or somewhat easier), here are five free NHL picks of the day.

New York Rangers(1-3-0) vs Columbus Blue Jackets (2-1-0)

Both teams are coming off three days rest, Rangers had to travel to Ohio and the Blue Jackets had to travel from Carolina to Ohio, it’s not the worst travel so these teams should be pretty well rested. The Rangers have struggled offensively, defensively basically up and down the lineup. Head Coach Alain Vigneault has made some of the most bizarre defensive and offensive lines so we will see how those work out tonight. The Blue Jackets have also struggled offensively, as Sonny Milano leads the team with four goals and only four other players have a goal for Columbus, one of them being Ryan Murray. The Blue Jackets need to see their top guys get going, as well do the Rangers, this is a game for both teams to get the wheels going and dust off some rust. Columbus, 4-3.

Washington Capitals(2-1-0) vs New Jersey Devils(3-0-0)

The Devils remain undefeated after toppling the red-hot Leafs 6-3, the Devils welcome the Capitals to “The Rock”, Alexander Ovechkin’s hot start looks to quiet the young explosive Devils tonight. Both offenses have seen their success, and the Devils are seeing scoring from all across the board. The Capitals have to go back-to-back with N.J. and Philadelphia so this could be a game the Devils steal. Corey Schneider has looked unbelievable and Marcus Johansson faces off against his old team. With Tom Wilson back in the line up, this game could get ugly, fast. With the Capitals back-to-back we may see Philipp Grubauer in net(confirm later), could be a factor for the Devils. Capitals 4-3.

Anaheim Ducks(2-1-1) vs Colorado Avalanche(3-1-0)

Colorado another team completely shocking the NHL with a 3-1 start and the only loss they had came to the other shock of the season, New Jersey. Mind you Colorado took down Boston twice and the Rangers, two playoff teams last year. Nail Yakupov seems to be finding his fit in Colorado as he is off to one of his better years since coming to the league. Matt Duchene chatter has died down, and Alex Kerfoot(former Hobey-Baker nominee) is making an immediate impact. With Ryan Getzlaf back in the line up now and the Ducks strong offense, this game could go either way. Assuming John Gibson goes head to head with Semyon Varlamov, the goalie matchup will be interesting. Anaheim, 3-2.

Ottawa Senators(1-0-2) vs Calgary Flames(3-1-0)

Ottawa has been off to a slow start, having yet to win a game in regulation and dropping both games in a shootout. It’s never a pretty sign when your leading point go-er is Derick Brassard with three points. Ottawa needs to wake up and wake up fast. Erik Karlsson will most likely not return for another couple days as he did not travel with the team and this team needs him bad. Johnny Gaudreau and the Flames have been off to the start they hoped for, seeing solid goaltending from Mike Smith, the Flames shall not be worried about Ottawa. Gaudreau has 7 points in 4 games and T.J. Brodie leads the backend with 5 points. Good things coming from Calgary early on, Flames 4-1.

Detroit Red Wings(3-1-0) vs Vegas Golden Knights(3-0-0)

It’ll be another home game for Vegas as this team has started off red hot, take a look at these two records, three months ago did you expect these record to look like this? Hell no. The Red Wings have collected some solid wins as the Golden Knights fourth line crop of players are finding the back of the net. Marc-Andre Fleury has been a near brick wall for Vegas allowing just 4 goals in three games with 1.32 goals against. Nobody expected this from either team, I just hope one of them starts to fall off the rails soon, I hate to be wrong. Vegas, 3-2.
