Cannons A Blast: The cannons at Nationwide Arena were in full effect last night as the Blue Jackets control the play all game and take down the Rangers 3-1. Artemi Panarin scored his first goal as a Blue Jacket in a lone effort of weaving in and out of Ranger players getting untouched, for a walk into the high slot ripping it five hole. Columbus threw 43 shots on goal and dictated the play of the game from the drop of the puck. Columbus scored 27 seconds into the game but it was overturned as the Rangers came back to score, but unfortunately was not enough. The Rangers have now let up a goal in the first 27 seconds two games in a row and have scored eleven goals in five games. Ranger fans around the globe are uneasy with the Rangers start perhaps a win over New Jersey can change the momentum for New York.
Ovechkin Rekindles Flame with CCM: The Capitals hand the Devils their first loss of the season beating them 5-2 as Ovechkin scored his ninth goal of the season. Devils Taylor Hall scored his first of the season and Kyle Palmieri scored his first as well. The Capitals will face the Flyers in their home opener tonight in a back to back and without recently injured Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen. Niskanen left the game Friday night with an upper-body injury and he is now listed on the LTIR. A big blow to the Capitals defense as they will now occupancy three rookie defenseman. Hopefully, Ovechkin and his new CCM stick deal can lift the Capitals to greater heights this season despite all the losses to their line up already.
Night night Golden Knights: And the Golden Knights are handed their first loss of the season and franchise history by the Detroit Red Wings 6-3. Finally, we do not have to hear anymore Vegas undefeated headlines now. The Red Wings though have looked red hot, getting off to a 4-1-0 start and seeing production from Henrik Zetterberg(7 points), Anthony Mantha(7 points) and Mike Green(8 points), the Red Wings now get a two-day rest and welcome the Lightning to the Little Caesars Arena on Monday night. The Golden Knights schedule does not get much easier do they take on the Bruins, Sabres, Blues, Blackhawks then a Metropolitan/Atlantic division road trip, good luck Vegas.
Av’s Gone Hunting: The Avalanche take down another playoff team and hold the Ducks to one goal in their 3-1 win Friday night. For the Avalanche this night it was produced from Gabriel Landeskog and the defense chipping in to do their part. The Av’s top six have been firing on all cylinders and have been the big story of the NHL. Tyson Barrie one time blast on the power play is a positive sign as well as seeing these young guys like Andrighetto and Rantanen showing poise on the power play. Barrie and the Av’s go back to back vs the Stars tonight as the Ducks look to regroup quickly and get ready for the Sabres Sunday night. Ducks starting goalie left Friday nights game with and is now listed as day-to-day so that situation is to monitor as it is not a good sign whenever your starting goalie goes down.
