After having three days off to recover from the heartbreaking, final-minute loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, The Philadelphia Flyers took to the ice in their home-opener against the Washington Capitals last night, October 14th. The game was a tightly played one through the first period, which saw the Flyers take a late 2-1 lead on a goal by Scott Laughton.
The Flyers potted three more goals in the second, and then another three in the third, exploding for eight against a Washington team that has started quite well. It was a forgettable night for Philipp Grubauer, who let up all eight goals on 37 shots.
The Giroux-Couturier-Voracek line combined for 10 points on the night, four for the captain, and three each of Couturier and Voracek. Scott Laughton also scored two goals, and Valtteri Filppula had one of his own. Philadelphia will next take on the Florida Panthers at home Tuesday night, October 17th.
