Tampa Bay Lightning vs Detroit Red Wings
Tampa Bay Lightning head into Little Caesars Arena for the lone NHL game of the night. Detroit has started off quick out the gates, with a 4-1 record, and taking down a string of good teams. Much of the storyline around Detroit this season was not positive many had ruled them out before the year started. After Dylan Larkin’s down year, an old group of players and bringing in a ton of rookies, and the back end was a problem for the Red Wings. Along with Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard being questionable starting goalies, Detroit’s future was written off by many to be one of the worst teams in the league.
Red Wings Offensive production
Well as we are in now five games they have started the opposite of how many thought they were going to start, and their offense has rose to the occasion. Anthony Mantha, Henrik Zetterberg lead the offense with three goals, four assists apiece, while Mike Green has eight helpers on the season and has been the bright spot to this Red Wings defense. Rookie Martin Frk has tallied three goals and one assists thus far while Dylan Larkin has one goal and five assists. The Red Wings are getting production throughout the lineup which has been the biggest factor in their success and something we did not see this team capable of doing. But this team will face a favorite for the Atlantic division and Stanley Cup contenders.
Tampa Bay Lightning Point, Namestnikov Contribution
Tampa Bay had a forgettable season last year but with the addition of Steven Stamkos back in the lineup and some more forward depth the Lightning are right back where they left off from in 2015-16. The Lightning are 4-1 as well and have seen production from the usual suspects, Nikita Kucherov has five goals and three assists already, Steven Stamkos has one goal and six assists and the most unusual suspects chipping in for the Lightning success are Brayden Point and Vladislav Namestnikov, Point has been paired on the second line and has chimed in for three goals and five assists, while Namestnikov is paired with the Lightning super stars and has chipped in for two goals and three assists. The Lightning have seen signs of success in Vasilevskiy but also signs of struggle, Vasilevskiy has a 3.20 goals against and .911 save percentage, not the typical numbers the Lightning expected but the year is young and the Lightning are hoping Vasy can turn it around quickly.
JJ’S PICK OF THE DAY
For tonight the first of four meetings between these two will kick off tonight at 7:00 p.m. being the lone game of the night all eyes will be on these two teams and Steven Stamkos and the Lightning hope to slow down the young explosive Red Wings offense. For the sake of favorites, I’m sticking with Tampa Bay tonight 4-2.
