Vegas and Analytics Series (Game 6)

KEY:

CF%=Corsi For %=Shot Attempts For/Total Shot Attempts

CA%=Corsi Against %=Shot Attempts Against/Total Shot Attempts

PDO=Save%+Shooting%

TPR=Total Play Rating (Not a completely verified stat) = (PDO-CA%)+((MDSv%+LDSv%)/(MDSA+LDSA))

I adjusted the TPR rating to be better suited for the goalieā€™s play in their game. Note the changes in the formula above.

CF%:

VGK: 5v5=40.79%

CA%:

VGK:5v5=59.21%

Although the game went back and forth for the most part, Buffalo had more control for longer periods which created the disparity in the statistic. Buffalo just could not solve Malcolm Subban for most of the game until the third period where their control took off. Even overtime showed more control by the Sabres, alas the Golden Knights came out with a historic victory and moved their record to 5-1-0, best since the 1917-1918 Montreal Canadiens.

PDO:

VGK:101.57

BUF: 98.43

TPR:

VGK:138.65

For sure not the best game by the Knights, but due to a high PDO and shooting percentage, along with Subban making his saves they squeaked out an OT win over the Sabres. Lex Tuch performed well again providing a goal in the contest. So far, this season, the Knights are riding a higher PDO and not so amazing CF%, look for their fall off to come, and come hard this season. They will hit a wall, but as hockey fans we must be happy to have another team to join the group and perform well as of right now.
