NHL Picks of the night

NHL PICKS OF THE NIGHT: Setting up shop out East…

Arizona Coyotes(0-8-1) vs New York Rangers(2-6-2)

This game worries me and probably one of the least games I am confident about tonight, and for this reason, the Rangers are in a huge slump, struggling on all cylinders while the Coyotes are winless through nine contests and could have a franchise-worst start with a loss tonight. Anytime a team starts off this bad and are nearing one of the worst starts in history something bad happens. It will be an emotional night with Derek Stepan returning, and while the Rangers will acknowledge his time as a Ranger, they must get to business early, especially on the young goalies who are slotted as a possibility in Arizona(Adin Hill and Louis Domingue). With Ondrej Pavelec in net, he himself needs to prove some worth and the Rangers need to take some responsibility for their poor defensive zone play as of late. Tonight will be closer than we believe, but Rangers, 3-1.

San Jose Sharks(4-4-0) vs Boston Bruins(3-3-1)

The Sharks will face the Bruins after a nice two days rest, now I am not hung up on the Sharks this season I’ve said it time and time again they will miss the playoffs. But the biggest concern for me about this team is the horrid start Brent Burns is off to. Burns in eight games this season has yet to register a goal, has five assists, a -7 rating. The Sharks are feeling the effects of Burns’s poor start as they themselves have not looked great. But the Bruins have their own problems to deal with in David Krejci being day-to-day yet again, therefore the Bruins yet again have to rely on their top guns for another successful night. But the good news, Tuukka Rask is said to be a possibility for Thursday night, if so the Bruins have a weight lifted off their shoulders. Bruins, 4-2.

Carolina Hurricanes(3-3-1) vs Toronto Maple Leafs(7-2-0)

Ok, it seems like a trend is starting to happen, but I promise I am not some sort of writer that is just picking home teams here, but like give me a break what else do I do when Toronto is home vs the Hurricanes. Don’t get me wrong Carolina is an emerging team but we are talking about a Toronto team that has Mitch Marner on their fourth line and Auston Matthews one of the best our goal scorers. Coming off days of rest this team will come out strong like always. Toronto, 5-2.

Winnipeg Jets(4-3-0) vs Pittsburgh Penguins(6-3-1)

Ok, this is the game of the night that I think the away team can take the game, the Jets offense is just as strong if not deeper than the Penguins and their defense fares well with the Penguins especially with Justin Schultz out with a concussion. The only deciding factor will be the goaltending if Connor Hellebuyck can match Matt Murray’s performance I think Winnipeg comes away with a huge win tonight. Another big factor in tonight will be the power play, the Penguins rank 2nd in the NHL with a 30 percent efficiency and the Jets rank 16th with a 17.4 percent completion, while both penalty kill, is not the greatest, the Penguins rank 16th and the Jets struggle tremendously at a 72 percent. The Jets need to crack down and shut down one of four Penguins weapons out there for a chance to win tonight. Jets, 4-3.

Anaheim Ducks(4-3-1) vs Florida Panthers(3-5-0)

Florida dropped a real tough one vs one of the worst teams in the NHL right now, Montreal. Hopefully, they can have a quick memory and turn the page looking into tonight vs an injury-riddled Anaheim team. The Ducks did, in fact, get back Hampus Lindholm and Ryan Getzlaf is centered to be with Rickard Rakell and Corey Perry right now, and Brendan Montour has been one of their best defensemen to start the season. A lot of bright spots in Anaheim but games have been hard to come by. The Panthers have offensive weapons but they need them to show up consistently each and every night which they haven’t and why their record is 3-5. Going with Anaheim, Getzlaf-Perry-Rakell need to have a game tonight. Ducks, 3-2.
