The Fish Tank: NHL Picks Out West

NHL picks of the night out west: Tonight features a ton of NHL action and with that, there are six Western Conference games home today, the other West game (Coyotes vs Buffalo) is not even worth the hassle, but here are my picks of the night!

Philadelphia Flyers(6-6-1) vs St. Louis Blues (10-2-1)

The Flyers are on the road to face a tough St. Louis Blues team. The Blues ended October with a 10-2-1 record and look to continue their success throughout the season. The Flyers have not been playing the hockey they started the season with. As Jake Allen is in between the pipes tonight, the Blues will take this game at home vs. a struggling Flyers team. Blues 4-2

Montreal Canadiens (4-7-1) vs Minnesota Wild (4-4-2)

The Canadiens face a Wild team who just lost their previous home tilt against the Jets. The Wild got hit with a lot of key injuries over the course of the past month but they have been playing some good hockey still. Guys like Chris Stewart have been carrying the workload for this team. The Canadiens have also stepped up their game in terms of the scoring department. Over the past couple of games, they have been getting production from their top forwards. Canadiens 4-3

Dallas Stars (7-5-0) vs Winnipeg Jets (6-3-2)

The Dallas Stars travel to Winnipeg to face the Jets who have been rolling the past couple games. With goaltender Connor Hellebuyck playing out of his mind the Jets have rallied behind him. Due to injuries up front, the Jets have had to bring up young talent from their farm system including Kyle Connor and Brendan Lemieux. Both have shown that they can play in the league and keep up with the top guys. The Jets at home with Hellebuyck in net should get it done tonight. Jets 3-1

Carolina Hurricanes (4-4-2) vs Colorado Avalanche (6-5-0)

The Avalanche have a good matchup tonight at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are a .500 team entering a new month. The Avalanche at home are tough to face but with the Hurricanes having such a good and young D-core, they will be able to shut down the top lines Colorado has to offer. The key to the game will be Carolina’s defensive game and how they will handle the top lines in their own end. Hurricanes 3-1

Pittsburgh Penguins (8-5-1) vs Calgary Flames(6-6-0)

The Pittsburgh Penguins enter the Saddledome in western Canada to face the Flames. The Flames have played decent hockey their first month of play and the Penguins might have a good record but they have not seemed like the team of the previous two seasons. The Flames have not shown me what will separate themselves from the pack out west yet however, they will show me tonight against the defending champs at home. Flames 2-1
