NHL PICKS OF THE NIGHT: November 13, 2017

Dallas Stars(9-7-0) vs Carolina Hurricanes(6-5-4)

The Stars are now in the first wild-card spot and two points behind the Predators for the 3rd spot in the Central division so as meaningless as this game seems the Stars could use a much-needed two points. Over the last five games, the Stars are 2-3 with 17 goals against and 13 goals for. They played Carolina towards the end of October in which resulted in a 4-3 win, where Carolina outshot Dallas 39-26. Carolina is 8th in the Metropolitan division but that is not indicative of where they could be, as they are only 5 points away from the Capitals who sit number three. Carolina is 1-4 in their last five with 16 goals against and 14 goals for. Currently, their top point scorers are Justin Williams(13), Jeff Skinner(10) and Jordan Staal(9). The big shock here is Staal’s recent tally in games, Staal has collected three goals, one game-winning goal and nineteen shots on goal in his last five games. The Stars top point scorers are John Klingberg(18), Tyler Seguin/Jamie Benn(16), the disappointing factor is that Alex Radulov has tallied just five goals on the season. Tonight will come down to Carolina staying out of the penalty box, as the Stars power play is ranked number one performing at a 31.2 percent efficiency. I like Dallas here tonight with Ben Bishop in net, I am expecting a solid game from Bishop and the Stars offense. Stars, 2-1.

St. Louis Blues(13-4-1) vs Calgary Flames(9-7-0)

The Blues stormed out the gates and have not slowed down, the biggest factor in their success comes heavily from there the first line of Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko, not another trio in the league has combined for more points. Where Calgary has not been as successful as many thought they could be, Travis Hamonic recently went down with an injury and aside from Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monohan, the offense has been hard to come by. The Flames are 3-2 in their last five with wins coming against Washington, Pittsburgh, and Nashville, which is a positive sign. But one of their two losses came against the Blues resulting in a 5-2 loss. In these five games, the Flames have just 10 goals for but also allowed only 11 goals against. Where the Blues are 4-1 in their last five, with 18 goals for and 11 goals against. I would expect a low scoring game tonight, with both expected starters to be going and playing well, this will not be a high scoring game. But, the Blues are the Blues and the scoring depth, and reassurance has been there, I like the team that has the ability to stay in games no matter what. Blues, 3-2.
