NFL Playoff Picture Heading Into Week 13

* = First round bye

^ = Wild Card

AFC:

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers*(9-2)
  2. New England Patriots* (9-2)
  3. Tennessee Titans (7-4)
  4. Kansas City Chiefs (6-5)
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars^ (7-4)
  6. Baltimore Ravens^ (6-5)

Game scenarios as of now:

Wild Card Weekend-

Ravens @ Titans

Jaguars @ Chiefs

In the hunt:

Buffalo Bills (6-5)– ….Patriots, Colts, Dolphins, @Patriots, @Dolphins

Los Angeles Chargers (5-6)–…. Browns, Redskins, @Chiefs, @Jets, Oakland

Oakland Raiders (5-6)–…. Giants, @Chiefs, Cowboys, @Eagles, @Chargers

Cincinnati Bengals (5-6)–…. Steelers, Bears, @Vikings, Lions, @Ravens

My Prediction:

The AFC is unusually weak this season and I could see the playoff picture staying the same as it is right now. Based on the strength of the team and schedule remaining I could see the Chargers sneaking in as a wild card team or even as the AFC West Champions. They’re 5-2 in their last seven games and have one of the easiest schedules remaining this season.

No other team sticks out too much to me. The Bills still have to play the Patriots twice (two losses right there) and the Raiders and Bengals just don’t have it this year. However, all it takes is for a team to get hot and then ride the wave the rest of the way.

NFC:

  1. Philadelphia Eagles* (10-1)
  2. Minnesota Vikings* (9-2)
  3. Los Angeles Rams (8-3)
  4. New Orleans Saints (8-3)
  5. Carolina Panthers^ (8-3)
  6. Atlanta Falcons^ (7-4)

Game scenarios as of now:

Wild Card Weekend-

Falcons @ Rams

Panthers @ Saints

In the hunt:

Seattle Seahawks (7-4)–…. Eagles, @Jaguars, Rams, @Cowboys, Cardinals

Detroit Lions (6-5)–…. @Ravens, @Buccaneers, Bears, @Bengals, Packers

Arizona Cardinals (5-6)–…. Rams, Titans, @Redskins, Giants, @Seahawks

Dallas Cowboys (5-6)–…. Redskins, @Giants, @Raiders, Seahawks, @Eagles

Washington Redskins (5-6)–…. @Dallas, @Chargers, Cardinals, Broncos, @Giants

Green Bay Packers (5-6)–…. Buccaneers, @Browns, @Panthers, Vikings, @Lions

My Prediction:

Unlike the AFC, the NFC has multiple teams that could compete in the playoffs. Unfortunately, there are only six spots. I’m going to stick with the playoff picture now with three teams from the NFC South getting a spot.

The Seahawks are a good team, but injuries have plagued them and they have one of the hardest schedules remaining, playing teams that are all already in the playoffs or in the hunt right now.

Detroit is another good team, but the others are just better… There’s always next year.
