FREE NHL Picks: December 13, 2017

New York Rangers(16-11-3) vs Ottawa Senators(9-13-7)

The Senators have been the laughing stock of the NHL for the last month and a half now, they are on a five-game losing streak and have not won in over a month. I am not quite sure what could be this teams problem but right now they cannot catch a break. Last nights game vs Buffalo they definitely had offensive chances, but one bad break down in the neutral zone and it was game over. They go down, and cannot seem to dig themselves out. Since November 16, the Senators have managed to collect a total of 2 points, and have scored a sum of 20 goals, and have got shutout four times. Things look terrible now as Erik Karlsson rumors continue to heat up. The Rangers have turned their season around, and I don’t need to go into much detail here, the Senators are going back to back, I’m going Rangers.

Dallas Stars(17-13-1) vs New York Islanders(17-10-3)

The Stars picked up their first road win Monday of this four-game road trip, now they head into a red-hot Islanders offense. The Stars have been a rocky team all season but have managed to get a more consistent and after breaking up the Radulov-Seguin-Benn line the Stars have some depth to their offensive scoring. The Stars come into this game with a road record of 7-9-1 and sit on edge in the second wild-card spot. The Islanders are rolling at home, one of the best home teams in the NHL and they have taken six of the last eight home games, the Islanders post a 9-1-2 home record and sit just two points ahead of the Rangers for the first wild-card spot. This is a big game for both teams as neither of them wants to lose their playoff contention spots. Tonight though, I like the Islanders.

Boston Bruins(14-9-4) vs Detroit Red Wings(11-13-6)

These two always make for a great matchup, and this is the first of four meetings between the two. The Bruins since getting players back healthy and sporting a solid three lines have managed to string together some timely wins and have landed themselves in three seed in the Atlantic division. Boston is 8-2-0 in their last ten and post a 5-5-2 away record. The Bruins offense is slowly getting healthy again, and Tuukka Rask is going back to his old ways. The Red Wings have been struggling as of late, they started off hot but did what we all expected them to do, fall face first into the dirt. Over the last ten, the Red Wings are 1-5-4, posting a 5-6-5 home record and find themselves sixth in the Atlantic. A nice divisional battle, original six matchup never fails, I don’t expect a blowout or either team to dominate but we can see a Bruins win here tonight.

Nashville Predators(18-7-4) vs Vancouver Canucks(14-13-4)

The Predators head into Vancouver to face a hurting Canucks team, without Bo Horvat and Sven Bearteschi the Canucks are longing for a forward right now. Luckily rookie sensation Brock Boeser continues to produce and find the back of the net, aside from him the Canucks need some other forwards to fill in. In the Canuck’s last ten they are 4-5-1 and let the little lead for a wild card spot slip as they sit now three points away from Dallas for a playoff spot. Nashville is a top-five team in the NHL right now and have been dominating in their last ten(7-1-2), rank among the top ten in every major category there is, 2nd power play(26.4), 7th penalty kill(82.9), 2nd in faceoffs(52.8) and 8th in goals for(3.17) it does not get better than that, in every asset this team is clicking and with the depth they have, this is exactly the production they should be seeing. The Predators are definitely the team to take tonight, on the road too looks nice.
