FREE NHL Picks: January 6, 2018

St. Louis Blues(26-15-2) vs Philadelphia Flyers(17-15-8): The first time Brayden Schenn returns home since being traded to St. Louis I believe, if not still it will be an emotional game for Schenn. The Flyers are coming off a big win vs the Islanders the other night, as their offense was in full form, and production on the power play was top notch the Flyers now have to worry about one of the top teams in the West, St. Louis. The Blues Carter Hutton has taken over the starting role(momentarily) as he has started the last three games for St. Louis, and in those starts he has collected three wins, allowing five goals on 84 shots and it seems as if they will going Hutton again this afternoon. These two met back in November, where the Flyers blanked the Blues on the Blues home ice. Now the Blues travel to the Wells Fargo Center in hopes to take a big two points from Philadelphia. IF Hutton continues this play and the Blues can just produce on the front end, I feel confident St. Louis comes away with this one. Schenn is guaranteed a goal tonight probably or a big game. Going Blues.

Edmonton Oilers(18-20-3) vs Dallas Stars(23-16-3): The Stars definitely do not want to let two points slip out of their fingers as their playoff hopes continue to look better. Every win at this point counts and the Stars get two here tonight that will leave them only one point behind Nashville for that third spot in the Central. You have to assume that is what the players are saying and on home ice, the Stars have played this season posting a 15-5-1 record. The depth scoring has helped them and of course, Ben Bishop standing tall. The Oilers are slowly losing grips of the playoffs, possibly acquiring Max Pacioretty will help but right now the Oilers lack depth scoring and their defensive scoring has been non-existent this season. A tough place for the Oilers to collect a win. Tonight I am going Stars.

New York Rangers(21-14-5) vs Arizona Coyotes(10-27-5): With the Islanders poor play and the Hurricanes unbelievable play the Rangers must collect two points to stay in this playoff race. They are only two points away from Columbus for the three spot in the Metro and every win counts, against a team like Arizona, the Rangers do not get two here, it makes things even harder for them. The Coyotes, yes, are a competitive team but without goal scoring, and consistent play this team is hard to judge. They take some wins against some solid teams but for a majority of the season, this teams identity has been unknown. Tonight I am going Rangers.

Carolina Hurricanes(19-13-8) vs Boston Bruins(22-10-6): Two teams that are extremely hot right now and two teams not many people expected to be this successful. The Hurricanes have won seven of their last ten and collected 15 of the last 17 points. Where the Bruins have won seven of their last ten and they have stormed into the second spot of the Atlantic, as the Hurricanes have snuck their way into the last wild-card spot and with their current play, they seem to be making a run at it right now. The Bruins hot play as of late is difficult to pick against, but the Hurricanes are such a young team, that is so unpredictable at the moment. The play of Cam Ward has helped the Hurricanes a ton, in his 10-0-2 in his last 12 starts and posting a .916 save percentage and 2.33 goals against average. A low scoring game we can assume and a close one. I like the Bruins on home ice.

Vancouver Canucks(16-19-5) vs Toronto Maple Leafs(24-16-2): The Leafs would not want to lose another two points since the Bruins jumped them in the standings, and the Canucks vs Leafs game is unpredictable. Battle of Toronto, Vancouver, two Canadian teams that have a storied history together. The Canucks long history of injuries this season does not help, and the slow production of William Nylander and Mitch Marner has slowed the progress of the Leafs. This one may seem easy as the Leafs are obviously the better team but at one point the Canucks were battling for a playoff spot, but you really never know when these two meet. We can assume the Leafs will take this game and I am confident they will win. Their offense is too explosive, and Frederick Anderson always stands tall. Tonight I am going Toronto.

Other games on tonight…

Lightning vs Senators: LOL, Lightning.

Wild vs Avalanche: Avalanche.

Ducks vs Flames: Flames.

Predators vs Kings: Predators.
