2018 Team Previews – Team Penske and Wood Brothers Racing

Team Penske has been a powerhouse team in NASCAR’s top series for nearly 30 years now, and to the surprise of many, they only have a single championship. In 208, Team Penske is poised to become an even bigger threat with the addition of the young Ryan Blaney as the three teams set out to win Roger Penske a second title.

2018 Outlook: The 2012 champion made it to the championship round of the playoffs in 2017, and despite not having the strongest cars, gives Team Penske and the no. 2 team a lot of momentum to ride into 2018. Keselowski and his long-time crew chief Paul Wolfe clearly display they have what it takes to win a championship, they just need more car to get them there.

2018 Outlook: Ryan Blaney, a rising star who has certainly made a name for himself already, won his first career race in 2017 and came up short of transferring to the championship round of the playoffs. Now, with better equipment, teammates, and a new home, Look for Ryan Blaney to turn even more heads in 2018.

Poles in 2017: 2

2018 Outlook: After perhaps his worst season on record, Joey Logano has more motivation than ever before to shoot for success. The no. 22 team was hit hard and missed the playoffs last season, but they seemed to find a lot of speed through the 2017 playoffs. If the can carry that momentum and continue to improve, Logano will surely see victory lane again in 2018.

The Wood Brothers are perhaps the drivers of innovation in NASCAR, paving the way for the youth of today. This team, which has been around for nearly as long as NASCAR itself, has continued to find ways to win over so many decades. Now, they will take a risk in hiring a new driver with very little success. Can the no. 21 continue its success of 2017, or will it all be lost?

2018 Outlook: Paul Menard, for the entirety of his career, has sorta just been around. He’s had good equipment and good teams, but never an opportunity like this. With a great team like the Wood Brothers, it’s time for Menard to show he has what it takes to be competitive. If he can’t, his time in racing may be over soon.
