Montreal Canadiens(18-20-6) vs Boston Bruins(24-10-8)
The Bruins are coming off an overtime loss where former Bruin Tyler Seguin, embarrassed the Bruins defense as they were squirming on the ice like a fish out of water. The Bruins despite dropping their last game in overtime have found a way to pick up a point in 12 of their last 13 games. With another Toronto loss, Boston is now two points ahead of Toronto with a chance tonight to make it four. The Bruins are 7-0-3 in their last ten and have one of the better home records in the NHL, 14-5-4. But, every time these two meet we can expect an exciting game. These two met just last week when the Bruins won in a shootout, 4-3. The Canadiens now, despite their recent failures, tough season and sloppy start, always come to play against another original six team. The Canadiens realistically have zero shot at making the playoffs, have dropped their last two games in overtime and have a record of 3-5-2 in their last ten. With little production on the front end, although they have bolstered Drouin and Galchenyuk to the first line, this team has little to no secondary scoring. If I had to take a team tonight, with an uncanny amount of confidence, I would have to go the Bruins.
Pittsburgh Penguins(24-19-3) vs Anaheim Ducks(20-16-9)
The Penguins continue to get these NBCSN games this season and the worst part is they are not as good as the NHL thought they were going to be before they booked these games. We usually rarely see the Ducks on primetime television, but perhaps this will be a time where they soar and spread their wings. The Penguins are now one point ahead of the Islanders for a playoff spot and have officially made it back into the race for the wild card. Unfortunately, I think we all know how this turns out with this team, they sneak in as a #8 seed this year and somehow make a deep playoff run, shoot me. Anyways, the Pens are 6-4-0 in their last ten and currently on a four-game winning streak. It doesn’t hurt when Phil Kessel is performing at an unreal rate and they are finally getting three lines back to scoring. The Ducks this season are finally healthy with an offense led by
Rickard Rakell, Ryan Getzlaf, and Corey Perry, their secondary scoring and depth are about just as good as any team in the league. If they find a way to sneak into the playoffs, I’d keep my eye on this team. The Ducks are four points out of a wild-card spot and 6-3-1 in their last ten with a 10-8-3 home record. If we look at this game let’s take into consideration how dangerous the Penguins are when they are rolling, pucks are falling their way and they are not letting up four-plus goals a game, also the Ducks do not fare well at home. I am going to have to go Penguins here tonight folks.
