There are not many exciting games on tonight, looking at the NHL slate and there is one maybe two games that may be worthwhile putting your fortune on. Anyways, here are my top three picks tonight.
Colorado Avalanche(26-16-3) vs Toronto Maple Leafs(26-17-5)
In the beginning of the year could you have confidently said the Avalanche were going to have almost the same amount of points as the Leafs? Probably not, don’t lie. The Avalanche are currently on a nine-game winning streak but much of that fortune has come at home and they make a three-game road trip before the All-Star break, but the thing is the teams they play are very beatable. The Avalanche face off against the Maple Leafs tonight a team that has been nothing special all season and in recent games they are 3-3-4. The Leafs are a solid team and will put up a great fight vs the Avalanche but I don’t think we can rule out the Av’s just yet because they are on the road. The Leafs are 13-7-2 on home ice and the Av’s are 8-9-2 on the road. We have to take into consideration that the Av’s have not played a road game since December 23, 2017. The new year kicked off with six-game home games in a row. The Av’s are a solid team right now, buying into a system being lead by the right guys. Tonight I am going Avalanche.
Detroit Red Wings(18-20-7) vs New Jersey Devils(24-13-8)
These two will be meeting for the final time this season and right now the Devils hold the upper hand in the series at two games to Detroit’s none. The Devils have won one on the road and one at home and now welcome the Red Wings to the “Rock” for the final meeting. The Devils have had their fair share of struggles though as they are 3-4-3 in their last ten and have dropped out of the top ten in the NHL. The Red Wings are coming into this game on a two-game losing streak and .500 record in their last ten(5-5-0). The Red Wings definitely get underestimated by many teams in the NHL, but their young explosive offense surprises many teams as well. The Red Wings lack on the defensive ends of things, while Jimmy Howard has done his fair share of picking up the slack. The Devils are another team that has surprised many this year, they have remained in the top three in the Metropolitan division for 49 games. The Devils offense led by Taylor Hall and accompanied by many depth guys like Jesper Bratt, Miles Wood, Nico Hischier, Brian Gibbons have given the Devils an offensive advantage at points. Tonight will be a great game as the Red Wings do not want to lose the season series 3-0, I think we see a close game but Devils win. Going, Devils.
Tampa Bay Lightning(31-12-3) vs Chicago Blackhawks(22-18-6)
These two meet two times a year usually and each time it is a very close game, this year the Lightning welcomed the Blackhawks to their home arena, November 22, 2017, in which the Lightning won in overtime, 3-2. Now the Blackhawks welcome the Lightning for the final meeting of two of them. The Lighting have dropped out of the #1 spot in the NHL for the first time this season but only trail by one point and tonight will be a night they just move along in the rankings to #1 again, so yes that means I am going Lightning. The league leader in points and his partner Steven Stamkos will have to rally the troops tonight for an eventful game. I think many teams overlook Chicago as they have battled with goalie injuries all year and have zero defensive depth but they still do possess Patrick Kane on the front end and a talented forward group. The Lightning have a team that not many can square up against, and that is why I am going Lightning tonight.
Other games on tonight…
Ottawa Senators vs Minnesota Wild: Wild, yes.
Buffalo Sabres vs Calgary Flames: Man, I feel bad for Buffalo. Calgary tonight.
New York Islanders vs Arizona Coyotes: Islanders.
Literally three of the worst teams in the NHL playing on the same night, that is comical.
