Fantasy Hockey News: Rakell, Miller, Klefbom out, Hornqvist hits the IR, Shattenkirk, Anisimov out and more!

Injuries:

Rickard Rakell: Is currently listed to miss “at least a few weeks” with a sprained ankle. This could 2-3 or 3-4 probably it won’t exceed anything more than 2-3 weeks I’d imagine. Rakell had 5 goals and 15 assists on the year playing top-three minutes.

Ryan Miller: Out with a sprained MCL expected to miss six weeks at least. Perhaps more due to Miller’s age. This does not affect the Ducks or your roster much but the Ducks did add Chad Johnson off waivers.

Oscar Klefbom: Just went Klefbom was getting things going and back to his 2016-17 season self, he now is expected to miss several weeks, the injury is just disclosed as a “hand injury” therefore we don’t know the severity of it. Expect to see Klefbom out for about 4-5 weeks.

Patric Hornqvist: The 31-year-old and Penguins top-six forward is listed on the injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Due to the vagueness of the injury it can be only a short period of time. As of now it seems Hornqvist injury is not a concussion but coach Mike Sullivan did say

“We were hoping he would progress faster, but that hasn’t happened,” said coach Mike Sullivan. “Right now he’s status quo – day-to-day with an upper body injury.”

Kevin Shattenkirk: Out at least two weeks a maximum of four weeks it seems with a separated shoulder. Shattenkirk was skating on the third d-pair and second power play. This is not a major loss for a young Rangers team that is doing fairly well but a blow to Shattenkirk’s confidence. On the year he has 1 goal and 7 assists.

Artem Anisimov: Is out indefinitely with a concussion. There is never a timetable to return on concussion being that it is very person-to-person based. But with Anisimov out Dylan Sikura gets called up from the AHL.

Michael Ferland: He was taken out of Tuesday game with a concussion, he was not feeling well and sat the rest of the game. He has been back and forth right now for the last week and this exit recently means he will miss the next two games for Carolina and re-evaluated soon.

Nearing returns;

Matt Murray: The Penguins two-time Stanley Cup champion has not been able to stay healthy for nearly a year and a half now. He has missed the last three and a half weeks (out since November 17th). Murray was activated off the IR and is said to be the Penguins no.2 goaltender moving forward. I would expect a very small role out of Murray over the next two weeks.

Paul Statsny: The veteran center is nearing a return, he has missed 29 games this season. Statsny practiced today and stayed with the extras but it seems Gerrard Gallant is monitoring the situation and will give a game-time decision on Statsny. When back, which is probably going to be the weekend he is expected to play with Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch.
