I will be starting a new edition on Wednesdays, usually a good middle week waiver wire talk. What players to look for during the week that can help you maybe win the week, trending players, and all the good news that comes with these articles.
Ondrej Kase is a must add right now, he is going to be playing with Ryan Getzlaf on the top line now with Rickard Rakell out. Kase slots to the first line with Getzlaf and Pontus Aberg, and the second power play unit. Not to mention over the last two weeks (8 games) Kase has 2 goals and 5 assist in that span. This is a great addition and a player who can help your roster for weeks to come.
Andrew Shaw, the grinder, agitator Shaw is not slotted on the first line with Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin. Domi and Drouin have been the Canadiens best players all year and Shaw may just get the trickle affect from them. He is playing 17+ minutes per game and has made use of his time on the top line adding a point in his last five games. On the year Shaw has 8 goals and 10 assist as 59 shots on goal and 70 hits.
Jakub Vrana, sure he may be overshadowed in that Capitals offense with Ovechkin, Kuznestov and Backstrom but Vrana is a very solid addition to any roster. He is playing with Kuznestov and Brett Connolly on the second line right now and although the Capitals power play one is usually always out there Vrana does get a chance on power play two. Vrana has 9 goals and 9 assists on the year, over the last two-weeks he has 4 goals and two assists.
Nick Schmaltz, this guy has to be a must add right now playing on the top line in Arizona, with Clayton Keller and when Alex Galchenyuk gets back it will Galchenyuk-Schmaltz-Keller clearly a line that can be productive and if you have any of those three it should provide some production. On the year Schmaltz has 6 goals and 12 assists but in the last two weeks he has 4 goals and 3 assists with four power play points. The Coyotes offense is a little banged up so go out and get Schmaltz now while you can.
Darnell Nurse has to be in the consideration as a player you at least keep on the waiver wire target list. With Oscar Klefbom out now for a few weeks, Nurse steps into the number one role. He will be on the first power play and number one defenseman in the Oilers depth chart now. Nurse is not known for his offensive production but he does have 2 goals and 3 assists over the last two weeks. On the year he has 4 goals and 7 assists.
Travis Hamonic, I am not totally gun-ho on Hamonic, him and Noah Hanafin play a more defensive role for the Flames but I also see Hamonic out there almost every other shift. He eats up about 21:56 minutes per game for a second d-line pairing that is a decent amount. While Hamonic may not see any power play time, he plays enough 5 on 5 time to make him an effective player. The Flames offense has been great lately and a lot of their offense is generated from their defense if it is not an odd-man rush.
Nate Schmidt, why would you not want to add Schmidt? he is the best defenseman in Vegas. Since he has been back he has helped turn the Golden Knights year around and has 5 points in the 12 games he has played. Schmidt plays line one d-pairing and power play two. A great offensive-defenseman who can easily be a solid player production wise all year for you.
