Celtics Face Reality Check after Loss to Blazers

After LeBron James departed from the east the Boston Celtics were looked at by the basketball world as a straight shot to represent the east in the Finals this season, but as they continue to struggle many have questioned the team’s potential. The Celtics finished their west coast road trip with just one win in four games, ending in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday 100-94

Blazers, Damian Lillard drives past Aron Baynes

For the third straight game the Celtics once again found themselves down 20-points throughout the game. They pulled off a comeback against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, but were unable to do the same against the Utah Jazz and the Blazers over the weekend. Kyrie Irving took a deep look at the team after the loss,

“We needed this. We’re not as good as we think we are,” said Irving.

“That’s really what it comes down to. The excitement is done. It’s just real basketball now. It’s not the potential of the team or where we’ll be at the end of the season. It’s right now and taking care of what’s in front of us.”

Kyrie calls for Veteran Presence

During his postgame interview Irving pointed at a veteran presence the locker room needs

“Right now I think it would be nice if we had someone that was a 15-year vet, a 14-year vet that could kind of help us race along the regular season and understand it’s a long marathon rather than just a full-on sprint,” Irving said.

The Houston Rockets may have one guy that could hit the free agent market really soon, Carmelo Anthony. After many players in the Rockets indicated that Anthony could’ve played his last game for the team, the 15-year vet could help mentor and motivate the Celtics young core.

The Race for Eastern Supremacy Continues to Grow

As Boston continues to struggle, the battle to represent the east in the Finals just got tougher after the addition of Jimmy Butler by the Philadelphia 76ers. It looked like the Celtics only had the Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks to deal with after proving time and time again that the 76ers lacked depth to contend with Boston, but with Butler now in a 76ers uniform it will be interesting to see what kind of a difference he makes in their Christmas Day match-up.

The Celtics face a tough test on Friday as Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors visit TD Garden, the Raptors were victorious during their last encounter 113-101. As Toronto continues to play great team basketball, we’ll see how Boston bounces from their west road trip against the Chicago Bulls tomorrow night.

NBA: Celtics point guard Terry Rozier shuts down rumors about playing time

Celtics point guard Terry Rozier spoke out on Thursday about the rumors surrounding his unhappiness with his playing time,

“I woke up to news just like y’all woke up to news. I don’t know where it came from. I’m happy to be in this position I’m at, playing on a team that’s mentioned to have a chance to be in a championship. So I’m not worried about what’s being said,” said Rozier.

Over the summer Rozier was on ESPN’s “The Jump” saying he expected Kyrie Irving to be the starting point guard to begin the season. Rozier also stated that the team will make it work because they all have one goal and that’s to hang another banner at TD Garden.

Decrease in Minutes and Production

On Wednesday, Bill Simmons of The Ringer reported that Terry Rozier is unhappy with his playing time with the Celtics and may soon be traded. The 24-year-old point guard is currently playing 22 minutes off the bench with Kyrie Irving reinstated as the starting point guard.

This season off the bench Rozier is averaging 7.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists, as opposed to last season where he averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds during the playoffs with Irving out with a knee injury. Rozier was eight on the team in minutes played per game and it’s clear his production and role have diminished because of the return of both Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

Danny Angie Denies Rumors about Team Monitoring Rozier

Shams Charania of The Athletic has reported that seven teams are currently monitoring the situation occurring in Boston. Of the seven teams the Phoenix Suns, who are desperately in need of a point guard are aggressively pursuing Rozier.

Boston General Manager, Danny Angie, denied the rumors surrounding Rozier on The Sports Hub saying Rozier has not vented about playing time to him, saying he feels Rozier would “come to me and talk to me or Brad and that hasn’t happened.” Angie has also said that no teams have contacted him about Rozier since the start of the season and knows nothing about seven teams monitoring him.

Rozier agreed with Angie’s statement, “What Danny said makes sense, because he knows me. I know I would not say something like that,” said Rozier

The Celtics continue their west coast road time against the team who “monitoring” Rozier aggressively as they visit the Suns in Phoenix Thursday night.

NBA News: Celtics vs. Nuggets Takeaways

Celtics vs. Nuggets Recap:

The Boston Celtics kicked off their five-game west coast road trip on Monday against the Denver Nuggets. The C’s made no adjustments in slowing down Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray, who finished with a career high 48 points.

The Nuggets improve to an impressive 9-1 record to start the season, second in the western conference behind the Golden State Warriors (10-1). Boston on the other hand continues to search for answers with their new assets, now holding the fourth seed in the east with a 6-4 record.

Expectations in the NBA world:

The Celtics have not lived up to the hype as it pertains to expectations coming into the season. After coming one game shy of reaching the NBA Finals after losing to the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the hype around Beantown was that the Celtics were the new kings in the east. Although all that seems certain is that the Toronto Raptors are the team to beat in the East holding the best record in the east at 10-1.

With a lethal starting line-up of Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford the C’s were projected to take the east by storm with their elite defense that separated them from the league as the number one defensive team last season. The Celtics are second in the league on the defensive side holding teams to 100.8 ppg (points per game), but right now its Boston’s offense that hasn’t clicked ranked 27th in the league.

Irving Fined $25k for Post Game Antics :

This is the second straight game were the Celtics defense came up short in stopping the opposing team’s star players. In Saturday’s loss to the Pacers the Celtics failed to put a hand up on Victor Oladipo’s game winning 3-point attempt. On Monday the C’s made no adjustments in slowing down Murray, allowing him to get open down the stretch hitting clutch shots that would steer the Nuggets to victory.

But the shot that irritated Irving and the Celtics more was Murray’s 3-point attempt with less than five seconds remaining. Irving took Murray’s hoist as disrespect, as he heaved the game ball into the crowd after the game. “He was the primary concern tonight and he made us pay in certain instances of making some tough shots and some tough layups,” said Irving. “But the ball deserves to go in the crowd after a [expletive] move like that. So I threw it in the crowd.”

Murray on the other hand meant no disrespect, “My emotions took over as it normally does when I get going like that,” Murray explained. Nuggets head coach Michael Malone said the veterans on the team spoke with Murray about the shot, “He’s young, he’s learning. You never want to try to disrespect anybody. It wasn’t disrespect. He was trying to get to 50 points,” Malone said.

Although it looks like Irving has circled the Celtics next meeting with Murray and the Nuggets, “You just don’t play basketball like that. It’s just petty. It’s immature. But we’ll see him again,” Irving said.

Celtics/76ers Series Take

The Boston Celtics open up the semifinals against the Philly 76ers, setting up for a surely epic matchup.

After the past 10 games, the 76ers are 7-3 going up against the Celts who posted a 6-4 run the last 10.

The Celtics square up decently against the 76ers, but they will really need find that dominant player on the offensive side of the ball.

Yardbarker.com

The 76ers offense moves at its smoothest with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, which does not poise well for the injury prone Celtics already playing without Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, and possibly Jaylen Brown. Players like Terry Rozier, and Jayson Tatum, give the Celtics hope each game with massive contributions from the other starters and role players.

If the Celts were healthy I’d say the Celts in 6 but unfortunately, that isn’t the case.

If the Celtics do play without Jaylen Brown, then the 76ers should have no problem beating the Celts barring any late minute comebacks. With Kyrie, the Celtics would be even better, making a harder push against the 76ers which is amazing considering the Celtics are already good without all their star pieces missing. The Celtics are a great team and hopefully prove me wrong.

I can see the Sixers losing early to the Celts due to the home court advantage. The young Sixers will be nervous, trying to combat the crowd and the solid play that the Celtics can give teams, especially at home. I still think the 76ers will pull out the victory in game 1.

At some point the 76ers will slip up due to their youth (maybe Game 1) but I’m going with the 76ers in 6 here.

The Sixers seem to always start the game as the underdog, trailing in the first half but it’s always W at the end of the game.

Predictions

Game 1 in Boston – 76ers

Game 2 in Boston – Celtics

Game 3 in Philly – 76ers

Game 4 in Philly – 76ers

Game 5 in Boston – Celtics

Game 6 in Boston – 76ers

Free NBA Picks for February 9th, 2018

Last night we saw the Raptors destroy the KP less Knicks more than covering the spread, we also saw the Celts fight back to claim the W over a talented Washington team.  We saw 2 losses as well; starting with the Magic beating the Hawks by 2, just missing the spread of +1.5. If you took points on that, you probably won.

We also saw the Mavs blow it to the Warriors as they were covering the whole game, slipping up in the 4th.

4-2 the past 2 days. 3 Picks tonight

Celtics -4.0 vs the Inidana Pacers

Tatum1

The Celtics return home tonight after an impressive win over the Wizards last night. The last time the Celts played the Pacers they coasted to an easy 10+ win over the Pacers on the road, in Indiana. The Celts must be tired from last night as they needed to go to OT in oder to top the Wizards. The Celts could play with less dominance if they are actually tired. But I don’t think it will affect them that terrible where they can’t cover against the Pacers. With Kyrie in the lineup, the Celts always have the upper hand.

Jazz -5.5 vs the Charlotte Hornets

rudy-gobert1

The Jazz are on a 7 game winning streak. They are 8-2 the last 10. They just wrapped up a road series which should make it easier for them to continue to get dubs at home. I can see tonights game being close, but the Jazz should pull away in this one covering the spread. Rudy Robert needs to have a big game on the boards to help out the offense that was been clicking heavily with Ricky Rubio. Donovan Mitchell should also have a big game tonight. The Hornets are 5-5 the last 10.

Rockets -8.5 vs the Denver Nuggets

usa-today-9235907.0

The Rockets remain red hot as they are 9-1 the last 10, going 5-0 the past 5 games. The Rockets are home which guarantees a victory the way the Rockets have been playing. The last time the Rockets played the Nuggets, the Rockets won by 30. The Nuggets shouldn’t be underestimated though. They have won the last 3 games including a huge W over the Golden State Warriors. It should be a close game up until maybe halftime. That’s where I can see the Rockets destroy the Nuggets easily covering the spread. Take the points here if you need it.

good-luck

NBA Free Picks for February 8th, 2018

Last night we saw the Rockets fight the strong Miami wave of attack as the Rockets covered by 8. We also saw the Spurs absolutely destroy the Suns. What I tell ya? Booker makes that team. At one point the Suns were down by 40. The Pelicans somehow rained out being postponed.

2-0 since yesterday. I have 4 picks again tonight. I feel like tonight may be the strongest for the favorited teams.

Raptors -13.5 vs the New York Knicks

DeMar-DeRozan-road-uni-reacts

The Knicks are coming off the heart breaking game against the Bucks where they lost their superstar Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks have gone 3-7 the past 10. The Raptors have gone 7-3. If Porzingis didn’t get hurt, the spread would be a little outrageous. Without KP, the Knicks are an even worse team that struggles to find a main point in scoring for their offense. They struggled even with KP. I expect the Raptors to continue their dominance at home possibly by a 20 point blowout here. The Raptors are 22-4 at home.

Hawks +1.5 vs the Orlando Magic

The Magic and the Hawks enter on a 2 game winning streak. The Magic have a terrible record going 17-36 this season. They are their “best” at home going 10-14. The Hawks also have a terrible record going 17-37. They are 8-21 on the road this year.

Kent+Bazemore+vAxx7YusQDvm

Apparently Elfrid Payton was just traded. That impacts the Magic on offense terribly. They acquired a pick in exchange from the Suns, which will help the Magic next season just not this season

The Magic will be without Aaron Gordon, Nikola Vucevic, and possibly Jonathon Simmons as well so do your own research before the game. Without all of these players, the Hawks have a good shot to beat the Magic tonight in what should be a close gam between 2 struggling teams.

Celtics+1.5 vs the Washington Wizards

The Wizards have been playing absurdly better without John Wall. The Wizards have won 4 out of the last 5 games, the same for the Celtics. This matchup honestly could go either way here.

kyrie-irving-24e90a39cddeba23Kyrie Irving is rumored to come back tonight. If he does, the Celts should win this in a back and forth game.

It will definitely be a challenge as the Wizards have been hot as of late. They are home tonight too. The Wizards will cool off eventually, maybe starting tonight against the East’s best in the Celtics. The Celtics main concern is the big man game. The Celts will need heavy production from their bench to top the Wizards tonight.

Mavericks +13.5 vs the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are the best team in the NBA right now. However, every once in a while the Warriors find themselves at times dazed from teams that are awful. The Kings upset last year, this year against the Nuggets.

Golden State Warriors v Minnesota Timberwolves

The Mavs are 2-8 the last 10. The Warriors have also struggled considering their talent going 6-4. The Warriors are looking to stop a 2 game skid, which should probably happen against an injury riddled Mavs team. KD is also questionable for tonight but as I stress, you should always do your own research. I see Dub nation getting the W easily here, but will they cover the spread? The Warriors are bad this year ATS going 23-30-1 this season. I say the Warriors win by 8 or 9 with the Mavs losing the entire game while coming back to threaten the Warriors slightly. If you can take the points, add them here against the NBA’s best team.

good-luck

Free NBA Picks for January 31st, 2018

Last nights card we saw the Thunder fail to win against the Wizards, the Timberwolves covered against the Raptors, the Cavs underperformed once again looking very scary, and finally; the Trail Blazers beat the Clips outright pushing for an even night.

I have 2 suggestions tonight

Lakers -2.5 vs the Orlando Magic

Screen-Shot-2017-11-03-at-11.30.30-PM-e1509777087763

The Lakers ride into Orlando on a 7-3 streak the past 10 games, opposed to the Magic who are 2-8 the past 10. Lonzo will be out tonight, but I think the Lakers will have enough production to pace the Magic.

The Lake show is 7-16 on the road. But the Lakers are on a hot streak and I expect it to continue at least tonight agains the struggling Magic.

It should be a close game considering the Magic were embarrassed last night by James Harden and the Rockets.

Celtics -5.0 vs the New York Knicks

NBA: Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic

The Celts and the Knicks clash as the Knicks look to continue a short 2 game winning streak. The Celtics at home are 18-8. They are 5-5 in the last 10, but I expect Kyrie Irving to serve up tonight against the Knicks. I also can see Michael Beasley having a big game for the Knicks.

The Celts are disgusting at home, I trust them to have a big game against the Knicks if the Knicks make it interesting. Send it
