Boston Shakes off Three Game Skid with Win over Hornets

The return of Al Horford into the lineup was a much needed boost for Boston’s frontcourt after getting blown out by the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. Boston picked up a wire to wire victory on Sunday against Kemba Walker and the Charlotte Hornets, 119-103, it was a big victory to get them back on track before their Christmas Day showdown with Philadelphia.

Kyrie Irving led the way for Boston with 25 points, 17 of those points came in the first quarter where he shot 7-9 from the field. Horford picked up 10 points and six rebounds in his return, while Marcus Morris had 12 points and eight rebounds in his first game back.

The Celtics Air out Frustration

After getting run off their home floor on Friday the Celtics closed their locker room doors for 36 minutes following the 13 point loss. They held a player only meeting to clear the air and find solutions to what can be done to improve their poor performances. Irving spoke gave little to no detail on the meeting, “I think everyone can see that we’ve obviously had some inconsistencies regarding our play, so I think it was just time to address it,” said Irving. He pointed out some critical points about the team’s recent play saying a lack of “cohesion” and there being “some selfish plays” among his teammates.

The point of emphasis for Boston has been their lack of ball movement and too much iso-plays, and coming out the gates on Sunday you can just see a different Boston team. The Celtics dished out 30 assists as a team against Charlotte, compared to their 22 against the Bucks on Friday. The play of the night for Boston had to be the alley-oop play between Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier, a similar play that Irving and Hayward ran last year that resulted in Hayward’s season ending injury.

Boston improves to 19-14 with the win and sit in the fifth spot in the east. The Christmas Day match-up with the 76ers is a huge test for Boston, the 76ers are coming off a huge win against the top seeded Toronto Raptors on Saturday.

Time to Hit the Panic Button in Boston?

Another close game down the stretch, results in another loss for the Celtics as they fall 112-117 to Kemba Walker and the Charlotte Hornets. With this lost the Celtics have now lost six of their last nine games in the month of November, they’re now in seventh in the East with a 9-8 record.

Quickly though, Kemba Walker and his MVP performance(s)

Real quick though, we cannot overlook how impressive Walker has been for the Hornets. Coming off a career high 60-point performance against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, Walker continued his stellar play going into Monday’s game. He finished with 43-points, with 21 of those points coming in the fourth quarter. Through two games Walker has scored 105 points on 35-of-59 shooting, now leading the NBA in scoring at 29.6 points per game. Playing MVP level basketball Walker is making a case on why he deserve the max contract, which would be $189 million over five seasons and would jump to $221 million if he qualifies for a “super max,” if he makes All-NBA First Team this season.

Does Rozier Want out of Boston?

Terry Rozier might have proposed a scenario to help the Celtics get out of this slump. Tuesday morning Rozier tweeted, “Let’s do us ALL a favor,” which may indicate that the solution to Boston’s struggles could be to trade him. In the wake of Kyrie Irving’s return Rozier’s usage has decreased drastically, which has led to numerous rumors that the four-year point guard wants out of Boston.NBA: Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors

Bill Simmons of The Ringer, tweeted out two weeks ago that Rozier was unhappy with his playing time and may soon be traded. Shams Charania of The Athletic also reported that seven teams were monitoring the situation between Rozier and Boston. Although Celtics General Manager Danny Angie denied those rumors saying that Rozier has not vented about his playing time, saying he would “come to me and talk to me or Brad and that hasn’t happened.”

An hour after numerous Celtics fans began to bash Rozier because of how he’s handling the situation, Rozier followed up on his tweet saying, “I forgot y’all get happy feet.. I wasn’t talking about me chill with the bad talk.”

At the end, it all falls on Angie if he wants to move on by trading Rozier, but his style of play can have a huge impact for Boston come playoff time. Although a package of Rozier, Horford, Hayward and a first-round pick for New Orleans Anthony Davis may solve things in Beantown.

Free NBA Picks for February 9th, 2018

Last night we saw the Raptors destroy the KP less Knicks more than covering the spread, we also saw the Celts fight back to claim the W over a talented Washington team.  We saw 2 losses as well; starting with the Magic beating the Hawks by 2, just missing the spread of +1.5. If you took points on that, you probably won.

We also saw the Mavs blow it to the Warriors as they were covering the whole game, slipping up in the 4th.

4-2 the past 2 days. 3 Picks tonight

Celtics -4.0 vs the Inidana Pacers

Tatum1

The Celtics return home tonight after an impressive win over the Wizards last night. The last time the Celts played the Pacers they coasted to an easy 10+ win over the Pacers on the road, in Indiana. The Celts must be tired from last night as they needed to go to OT in oder to top the Wizards. The Celts could play with less dominance if they are actually tired. But I don’t think it will affect them that terrible where they can’t cover against the Pacers. With Kyrie in the lineup, the Celts always have the upper hand.

Jazz -5.5 vs the Charlotte Hornets

rudy-gobert1

The Jazz are on a 7 game winning streak. They are 8-2 the last 10. They just wrapped up a road series which should make it easier for them to continue to get dubs at home. I can see tonights game being close, but the Jazz should pull away in this one covering the spread. Rudy Robert needs to have a big game on the boards to help out the offense that was been clicking heavily with Ricky Rubio. Donovan Mitchell should also have a big game tonight. The Hornets are 5-5 the last 10.

Rockets -8.5 vs the Denver Nuggets

usa-today-9235907.0

The Rockets remain red hot as they are 9-1 the last 10, going 5-0 the past 5 games. The Rockets are home which guarantees a victory the way the Rockets have been playing. The last time the Rockets played the Nuggets, the Rockets won by 30. The Nuggets shouldn’t be underestimated though. They have won the last 3 games including a huge W over the Golden State Warriors. It should be a close game up until maybe halftime. That’s where I can see the Rockets destroy the Nuggets easily covering the spread. Take the points here if you need it.

good-luck

Free NBA Picks for January 29th, 2018

Pacers -3.0 vs. the Charlotte Hornets

636477633074178912-USATSI-10450433

The Pacers find themselves at home against a Charlotte Hornets team that has been rocky on the road. The Hornets are 6-14 on the road this year.

The Pacers have been surprise this season posting a 27-23 record after losing PG13 in the offseason. Expect Victor Oladipo, Lane Stephenson, and Myles Turner to have a great game tonight. I think the Pacers will run Charlotte out the building tonight.

Suns +8.0 vs the Memphis Grizzlies

devin-booker

The Phoenix Suns have dropped the last 4 of past 5 games. The Suns however, are looking for the third win against the Grizzlies this season, tonight.

I expect the Suns to have a minor bounce back in attempt to stop the losing skid. I don’t see the Grizzlies blowing out the Suns considering they also have been team with constant indecision.

The Suns are 9-16 on the road, compared to the Grizzlies 12-15. You never have to ride the wave, but ride this one. The Suns +8 is too good to not take, if you can also take more points.I expect it to be a close one

Boston +1.5 vs the Denver Nuggets

Kyrie-Irving-4-e1511663917894

The Celtics have been brutal the past 5 games, losing 4 out of 5 including one defining loss against the Warriors.

I expect the Celtcs to bounce back tonight. Marcus Smart out of the lineup certainly changes things a little. But I don’t think the Nuggets are good enough to take down a team like the Celtics, especially since the Celtics will be looking to bounce back after a string of losses.

The Nuggets are on a 3 game winning streak, but I expect that to crash down to tonight with Kyrie Irving and Jayson Tatum having big games. If the Celtics do end up losing majority of the game, I can see the Celts rallying back. The Nuggets tend to give up leads to teams down the stretch.
