The Houston Rockets Championship window is closing

With the Golden State Warriors era of basketball running amuck on the league, the difficulty to win a championship for any team is tough especially for the Houston Rockets.

Winning against a team with 5 all-stars, in a 7-game series, is not only a daunting task but an impossible one for many teams. With Demarcus Cousins set to return on Friday against the Clippers, The Warriors now have 6 all-stars playing on their team.

Organizations around the league were forced to adapt to playing against Golden State’s brand of basketball. The three-point shot has evolved, becoming the most valuable way of scoring in today’s era of basketball. Post ups and Mid-range shooting are a thing of the past.

The Houston Rockets were one of the organizations who had to adopt a new style of basketball centered around 3 point shooting. Houston’s offense is the closest to the Warriors and even the Rockets couldn’t beat them in the Western Conference finals.

Last year, the Houston Rockets were only one game away from reaching the NBA Finals. But when Chris Paul went down with a hamstring injury, all hope was lost for the Rockets.

Chris Paul has been plagued with injuries playing in only 26 games this season. With the recent news that Clint Capela is out for 4-6 weeks with a thumb injury, James Harden is forced to carry the load for this team.

Chris Paul and Clint Capela are key pieces to the Rockets’ success. This team will go far as these two players go. If they can’t stay healthy or consistent, the Rockets will not be in contention for winning the championship this year.

The best shot the Rockets had to win a title was last season. It seems that the Rockets hasn’t mentally recovered from the western conference finals and free agency.

Chris Paul isn’t getting any younger and there are signs showing that father time is catching up to him. The Rockets are a struggling team this season. They had stretches where they were extremely bad, then they played good, and then bad again.

This team simply can’t stay consistent. If you can’t stay consistent in a Western Conference of the Warriors, Thunder, Nuggets, and Trail Blazers, you are bound to end up at the bottom of the pack.

With last night’s loss to the Nets, James Harden scored 58 points and the team attempted an unbelievable 70 three-pointers only making 23 of them. This raises concerns of if this team is even on the same page as they were up against the Nets late in the fourth quarter until giving up three straight 3 pointers from Spencer Dinwiddie to force overtime.

We have seen this same situation a couple weeks back against the Dallas Mavericks as rookie Luka Doncic capped off a comeback scoring 11 points in the final minutes of the game to defeat the Rockets.

What’s Next For Carmelo Anthony?

In the span of a year, Carmelo Anthony has been on the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks, and the Houston Rockets. Recent reports from the Rockets organization say that Melo may be on his way out of Houston.

With the Rockets slow start to the NBA season, losing 4 straight games at the start of the season and currently being the 12th seed in the Western Conference, fingers and blame are being pointed at Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo, 34 years old, has not adapted to the Rocket’s head coach Mike D’Antoni’s offensive scheme of 3-point shooting, pick and rolls, and spreading the floor type of offense. Carmelo’s role on the Rockets has been questioned numerous times through the season and his stint with the Rockets may be ending very soon cause of his lack of adaptability.

Carmelo should be recognized as a gifted scorer. He was a ten time all-star and scoring champion in his career but the reality of his current situation is that father time has finally caught up with him. He has not improved in any facet of his game in the past six years. In addition, he has been the scapegoat and odd man out for the teams he has played on the past couple of years and it seems like that trend will continue.

“You know what? I honestly think Melo should retire, I really do,’’ said NBA Hall Of Famer Tracy McGrady. “I don’t want him to go through another situation like this, and people are just pouring negativity on this man’s legacy. I really think because it hasn’t worked out the last two teams, just go ahead and, you have a Hall of Fame career, just go ahead and let it go.’’

It should be noted that McGrady brings up the point of stopping the bleeding for Carmelo and not continuing his current path. Carmelo has a few options since he is still on the pursuit of winning a championship. Options are signing with the Golden State Warriors or possibly the San Antonio Spurs or as Tracy McGrady said, retirement. The ideal situation for Carmelo would sign with Golden State, win a ring on that team and then retire. Melo retires on a good note as he can still be a productive and non-problematic scorer on a stacked, 3-peat bound Warriors team.

Carmelo came into the NBA after winning an NCAA Championship at Syracuse University straight to the NBA in 2003. He was recognized as a winner and someone who can lift a team into a winning culture. His friends in that draft Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh have all went onto to have winning careers, challenging for championships and also winning but Melo has never seen a championship nor has he went to a conference finals or NBA finals.

Carmelo’s career at this point has been stained by the media, fans, and even NBA organizations and it’s tough to see him go through this. A gifted player who was at a point the toughest guy to guard in the league may never win a championship or play in the NBA after this season.

Carmelo, this season is averaging 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and shooting 40% from the field. Melo can still be an effective player that can give you buckets, only thing is it has to be the right situation.

Free NBA Picks for February 13th, 2018

9-6-1 over the past 6 days. 2 tonight.

Rockets -2.5 vs the Minnesota Timberwolves

Brooklyn Nets v Houston Rockets

The Rockets are 9-1 the last 10, the T-Wolves are 4-6. The Rockets have been on fire providing constant production between Chris Paul and James Harden. Gerald Green has been the spark plug that has kept the Rockets offense clicking when CP3 and Harden leave the court. The Rockets have heavy bench talent which provides the one up against many teams that don’t have a great bench.

The T-wolves are a great team, but the Rockets have been absolutely filthy. The T-Wolves have their best opportunity to take them down considering they are home.

The T-Wolves are 23-6 at home, going against the Rockets who are 20-7 on the road this season. The first meeting between these 2, the Rockets won by 18 at home. It should be way closer tonight, unless the Rockets get on a roll that not even Minnesota can stop. Take the spread, the value behind it is great considering the Rockets are 13-2 the last 15 games.

Bucks -7.5 vs the Atlanta Hawks

giannis-antetokounmpo-5-things-to-know-rex-ftr1

The Bucks are 8-2 the last 10. The Bucks have been red hot since dropping head coach Jason Kidd. The Hawks are coming off a come from behind W over the Magic where the Hawks seemed to piece it together in the last few minutes.

The Hawks are 4-6 the last 10.

The Bucks are expected to get back Jabari Parker.

Tonight the Bucks should destroy the Hawks. I can see this going the Bucks way the entire game. The Hawks won’t trail by more than 8 maybe until halftime. Then I can see the Greek “Freak” take over, dismantling the injury riddled Hawks team.

Go for the points, take the Bucks,. I say they win by 9 or 10.

good-luck

Free NBA Picks for February 9th, 2018

Last night we saw the Raptors destroy the KP less Knicks more than covering the spread, we also saw the Celts fight back to claim the W over a talented Washington team.  We saw 2 losses as well; starting with the Magic beating the Hawks by 2, just missing the spread of +1.5. If you took points on that, you probably won.

We also saw the Mavs blow it to the Warriors as they were covering the whole game, slipping up in the 4th.

4-2 the past 2 days. 3 Picks tonight

Celtics -4.0 vs the Inidana Pacers

Tatum1

The Celtics return home tonight after an impressive win over the Wizards last night. The last time the Celts played the Pacers they coasted to an easy 10+ win over the Pacers on the road, in Indiana. The Celts must be tired from last night as they needed to go to OT in oder to top the Wizards. The Celts could play with less dominance if they are actually tired. But I don’t think it will affect them that terrible where they can’t cover against the Pacers. With Kyrie in the lineup, the Celts always have the upper hand.

Jazz -5.5 vs the Charlotte Hornets

rudy-gobert1

The Jazz are on a 7 game winning streak. They are 8-2 the last 10. They just wrapped up a road series which should make it easier for them to continue to get dubs at home. I can see tonights game being close, but the Jazz should pull away in this one covering the spread. Rudy Robert needs to have a big game on the boards to help out the offense that was been clicking heavily with Ricky Rubio. Donovan Mitchell should also have a big game tonight. The Hornets are 5-5 the last 10.

Rockets -8.5 vs the Denver Nuggets

usa-today-9235907.0

The Rockets remain red hot as they are 9-1 the last 10, going 5-0 the past 5 games. The Rockets are home which guarantees a victory the way the Rockets have been playing. The last time the Rockets played the Nuggets, the Rockets won by 30. The Nuggets shouldn’t be underestimated though. They have won the last 3 games including a huge W over the Golden State Warriors. It should be a close game up until maybe halftime. That’s where I can see the Rockets destroy the Nuggets easily covering the spread. Take the points here if you need it.

good-luck

NBA Free Picks; February 7, 2018

As the NBA season inches closer to the All-Star break, I’d like to take the time to start recording my picks to see what I could analyze differently, or provide any insight into any match up more accurately.

Three Picks

Rockets -5.0 vs the Miami Heat

The Rockets come into Miami on a 9-1 tear the past 10 games. The Heat are 3-7 the past 10. I don’t see the Heat stopping CP3 or James Harden in this one. Gerald Green is also a wildcard as he provides key help for the Rockets. I’m thinking the Rockets run the floor tonight winning by at least 8 or 9. If not a blowout.

The Rockets are just too good as of late to not cover against the struggling Miami Heat.

Pelicans -3.0 vs the Indiana Pacers

The Pacers are missing Oladipo and Collison, but the Pacers are managing to find themselves despite the injuries going 6-4 the last 10. The Pacers have the talent to compete with the Pelicans, but is that talent enough?

NBA: New Orleans Pelicans-Media Day

The Pelicans acquired Nikola Mirotic who provides help to Anthony Davis as they struggle without Cousins. I think the Pelicans win here at home by 5-6. They have been competing with teams despite losing 4 out of the last 5. Last time they played, Davis had 34 points and 14 rebounds. That of course was with D-Boogie. But the Pelicans just came off  deflating loss. Bouncing back tonight at home will be very important to the Pelicans as they hope to find a rhythm without Cousins.

I see the Pelicans winning here covering the spread, maybe losing most of the game but they should pull it out here.

Spurs -9.5 vs Phoenix Suns

The Spurs come into Phoenix losing the last 2 games. The Suns have lost the last 3. The Phoenix Suns are 2-8 the last 10 games. The Suns are coming off a 19 point loss to the Lakers as the Spurs kick off their road trip after losing at home against Utah by 9.

Devin Booker is questionable with a hip injury. There is a good chance he may be out for this one. The Spurs were going to win regardless, but if Booker is out; the Spurs by 9.5 is too easy. Booker is the life and soul of that offense. The Spurs may take a little while until eventually they blow them out. I say the Spurs by 18 without Booker. If Booker does play, it could be close. Take the points
