Jamal Murray Denver Nuggets

NBA News: Celtics vs. Nuggets Takeaways

Celtics vs. Nuggets Recap:

The Boston Celtics kicked off their five-game west coast road trip on Monday against the Denver Nuggets. The C’s made no adjustments in slowing down Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray, who finished with a career high 48 points.

The Nuggets improve to an impressive 9-1 record to start the season, second in the western conference behind the Golden State Warriors (10-1). Boston on the other hand continues to search for answers with their new assets, now holding the fourth seed in the east with a 6-4 record.

Expectations in the NBA world:

The Celtics have not lived up to the hype as it pertains to expectations coming into the season. After coming one game shy of reaching the NBA Finals after losing to the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the hype around Beantown was that the Celtics were the new kings in the east. Although all that seems certain is that the Toronto Raptors are the team to beat in the East holding the best record in the east at 10-1.

With a lethal starting line-up of Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford the C’s were projected to take the east by storm with their elite defense that separated them from the league as the number one defensive team last season. The Celtics are second in the league on the defensive side holding teams to 100.8 ppg (points per game), but right now its Boston’s offense that hasn’t clicked ranked 27th in the league.

Irving Fined $25k for Post Game Antics :

This is the second straight game were the Celtics defense came up short in stopping the opposing team’s star players. In Saturday’s loss to the Pacers the Celtics failed to put a hand up on Victor Oladipo’s game winning 3-point attempt. On Monday the C’s made no adjustments in slowing down Murray, allowing him to get open down the stretch hitting clutch shots that would steer the Nuggets to victory.

But the shot that irritated Irving and the Celtics more was Murray’s 3-point attempt with less than five seconds remaining. Irving took Murray’s hoist as disrespect, as he heaved the game ball into the crowd after the game. “He was the primary concern tonight and he made us pay in certain instances of making some tough shots and some tough layups,” said Irving. “But the ball deserves to go in the crowd after a [expletive] move like that. So I threw it in the crowd.”

Murray on the other hand meant no disrespect, “My emotions took over as it normally does when I get going like that,” Murray explained. Nuggets head coach Michael Malone said the veterans on the team spoke with Murray about the shot, “He’s young, he’s learning. You never want to try to disrespect anybody. It wasn’t disrespect. He was trying to get to 50 points,” Malone said.

Although it looks like Irving has circled the Celtics next meeting with Murray and the Nuggets, “You just don’t play basketball like that. It’s just petty. It’s immature. But we’ll see him again,” Irving said.

Free NBA Picks for February 10th, 2018

Last night we saw the Celts fall behind after coming back from 20+ failing to cover their spread taking the L. We saw 2 of our picks succeed as the Jazz beat the Hornets by 12. The Rockets did as they were supposed too and beat the Nuggets by 26.

6-3-1 over the past 3 days. 3 picks here tonight

Wizards -6.0 vs the Chicago Bulls

The once red hot Wizards travel into Chicago on a 6-4 run the past 10. The Bulls are 2-8 the last ten, posting a 12-14 home record. The Wizards lost a close one to the East’s best team in OT. They could be tired tonight, but the Wizards have been playing better without the focus of John Wall. I think they could be gassed, but they are too talented to not cover against a young-injury riddled Chicago Bulls team. I see the Wizards winning by 6 or 7. Take the points if you can. I don’t think it will be a blowout, it should be a close one.

The Wizards won by 4 the last time they both played, under different circumstances of course.

Warriors -11.0 vs the San Antonio Spurs

Golden State Warriors Memphis Grizzlies game at Oracle Arena in Oakland

The Warriors are at home as they face the injury riddled San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors are 20-7 at home this year. The Spurs are 13-15 on the road. The last time these two met, the Warriors won by 22.

The Spurs will be missing Tony Parker and DeJounte Murray, going against the Warriors amazing starting lineup. Without Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs will be exposed to all sorts of  misery as I can see Dub Nation going 15+ over the Spurs. Roll with the best team in the NBA.

Lakers +2.0 vs the Dallas Mavericks

The Lakers ride into Dallas on a 4 game winning streak. The Lakers are 8-2 the last 10 games. The Mavs are 2-8 the last 10. Despite the trades, I believe the Lakers should have enough fire power to beat a Dallas team which can be streaky at times. If the Mavs hit their shots early, they hit the shots throughout the game.

The Lakers should win this won by 5 or 6. If the Mavs play terrible it could be worse. The Lakers could also lose by 2 or 3. Which also covers the spread. Take the points here as well, it should be a close game.

Free NBA Picks for February 9th, 2018

Last night we saw the Raptors destroy the KP less Knicks more than covering the spread, we also saw the Celts fight back to claim the W over a talented Washington team.  We saw 2 losses as well; starting with the Magic beating the Hawks by 2, just missing the spread of +1.5. If you took points on that, you probably won.

We also saw the Mavs blow it to the Warriors as they were covering the whole game, slipping up in the 4th.

4-2 the past 2 days. 3 Picks tonight

Celtics -4.0 vs the Inidana Pacers

The Celtics return home tonight after an impressive win over the Wizards last night. The last time the Celts played the Pacers they coasted to an easy 10+ win over the Pacers on the road, in Indiana. The Celts must be tired from last night as they needed to go to OT in oder to top the Wizards. The Celts could play with less dominance if they are actually tired. But I don’t think it will affect them that terrible where they can’t cover against the Pacers. With Kyrie in the lineup, the Celts always have the upper hand.

Jazz -5.5 vs the Charlotte Hornets

The Jazz are on a 7 game winning streak. They are 8-2 the last 10. They just wrapped up a road series which should make it easier for them to continue to get dubs at home. I can see tonights game being close, but the Jazz should pull away in this one covering the spread. Rudy Robert needs to have a big game on the boards to help out the offense that was been clicking heavily with Ricky Rubio. Donovan Mitchell should also have a big game tonight. The Hornets are 5-5 the last 10.

Rockets -8.5 vs the Denver Nuggets

The Rockets remain red hot as they are 9-1 the last 10, going 5-0 the past 5 games. The Rockets are home which guarantees a victory the way the Rockets have been playing. The last time the Rockets played the Nuggets, the Rockets won by 30. The Nuggets shouldn’t be underestimated though. They have won the last 3 games including a huge W over the Golden State Warriors. It should be a close game up until maybe halftime. That’s where I can see the Rockets destroy the Nuggets easily covering the spread. Take the points here if you need it.

Free NBA Picks for January 25th, 2018

Last nights card we saw the Sixers win outright covering the spread by more than 5 points. We also saw the Pelicans not needing the spread, winning outright by 5. A nice little comeback from a series of bad beats.

We also saw the Celts do their thing over the Clips, not needing the +1.0 considering they beat them by 11.

Thunder -5.0 vs. the Washington Wizards

The Thunder have been on a nice 7 game winning streak since figuring out the chemistry needed to take it to the next level. The Wizards are average on the road, but if the Thunder push it against the Wizards, the should be able to sustain their winning streak by winning at home, where they are 17-7 this year.

John Wall, Bradley Beal, and Marcin Gortat will have to bring their top class performance if they want to outpace the core 3 of the Thunder. The Wizards have their best chance to top the Thunder considering the winning streak, calling question to the factors of durability and fatigue for the Thunder.

Nuggets -5.5 vs. the New York Knicks

The Denver Nuggets at home have also been a force to deal with. The Nuggets are 17-6 at home with stars Nikola Jokic who is averaging a double-double per game; putting up 16.2 PPG and 10.4 RPG. For the Knicks, I expect Kristaps Porzingis (Knee) to return tonight to the lineup.

Kristaps Porzingis is averaging 23.3 PPG and has taken up the main scoring role for the Knicks. Porzingis is only averaging 6.7 RPG, which could easily be outmatched by Jokic which is why I like this matchup.

Jamal Murray has also been a key factor for the Nuggets, dropping 30+ for the Nuggets the past 2 games. The Knicks are also 6-18 on the road this year, another consideration to factor in.

Both teams have been struggling as of late as Denver comes in 4-6 the past 10 games, followed by the Knicks coming into the matchup 3-7 the last 10.

Safe to say the Nuggets should be able to cover, if you take points off or not. Barring an epic NYK comeback.
