Colorado Avalanche vs Ottawa Senators

Things are getting a little better for Colorado at the moment, a big win vs Toronto was much needed for this team. A sure confidence boost, the Avalanche had success vs Toronto because their depth forwards had six points, Carl Soderberg had two goals, Matt Calvert had one, depth goes a long way. The Avalanche now head to Ottawa who are not playing well in their recent games (2-7-1) but also 11-9-4 at home. The Avalanche are 12-11-3 on the road and 2-6-2 in their last ten. They out match the Senators in most if not all areas of the game, goals, goals against, penalty kill, power play. The Avalanche are definitely favorited here and I’d expect a win out of them with how close the race in the Western Conference is right now. Every two points count. Colorado is -1.5 and -185 where Ottawa is +1.5 and +150, I’d go Colorado money line, puck spread too difficult to tell.

Buffalo Sabres vs Calgary Flames

Things are not getting easier for Buffalo at this point, they have been on a complete drought since their 10-game win streak. The Sabres are at the moment out of a wild card spot and slowly throwing their playoff hopes out the window. The Sabres are 3-6-1 in their last ten on a three-game skid, 9-11-3 going up against a Calgary team who is on a five-game win streak, 8-1-1 in their last ten and 15-4-4 at home. I would be completely shocked if Buffalo win, if Buffalo wins this will also probably be the last picks article I write. I am going the house on Calgary tonight. Calgary is -1.5 and -240, Buffalo is +200 and +1.5. Calgary with David Rittich (not confirmed but likely) in net makes me feel better as well.

San Jose Sharks vs Arizona Coyotes

The Sharks have been rolling lately, defeating the Penguins 5-2 Tuesday night and on a seven-game win streak, 9-1-0 in their last ten but 11-9-3 on the road. Where as Arizona is 5-4-1 in their last ten coming off a loss and 8-12-2 at home. The Coyotes are no where near the Sharks skill level but they are also no easy match. They always give teams difficult games, while I like the Sharks here they are coming into this game on a back to back. From San Jose to Arizona is not crazy but it’s a back to back and teams do not perform well in these situations. I am still going San Jose but maybe not the puck spread, just San Jose straight up. Sharks are -155 and Coyotes are +135. Aaron Dell is in net for San Jose and Darcy Kuemper for Arizona (not confirmed).

Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers

The Bruins are coming into this game off an overtime loss to Montreal at the TD Garden, they need to get back in the win column as things are not easy in that Eastern Conference. The Flyers got a big game from James Van Reimsydk and Nolan Patrick vs Minnesota for their 7-4 win, don’t expect that again. The Bruins are 6-3-1 in their last ten and 10-9-4 on the road, where Philly is 2-7-1 in their last ten and 9-10-3 at home. The Bruins are my choice for tonight, one the road sure but the Flyers fans have given up on the team this year so it is not really much of a “home team advantage”. Bruins will handle the Flyers accordingly, I also could see them covering the puck spread. My risk of the night would be Bruins to cover -1.5 puck spread. They are -165 while Flyers are +135. Bruins all the way.

Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks

These teams are separated by zero points, the Oilers have one less game played but they both have 47 points. The Canucks with an even 21-21-5, Edmonton 22-21-3 very close in records and very close for a wild card spot. The Oilers are 4-6-0 in their last ten coming off a big win vs Buffalo the other night. Where Vancouver is 5-4-1 in their last ten coming off a big win vs Florida. The Canucks had two and a half days rest coming into todays game and the Oilers had a day and a half. The Oilers are 10-11-2 on the road vs Vancouver’s 10-9-2 home record. This game means a lot for both teams, as much as the Canucks did not anticipate on being here they still are going to do whatever they can to win. The Oilers are my team for tonight. They are also favored +1.5 goals to start both teams are -110 though. I am going Oilers and riding Mikko Koskinen in net.

Also note I have been on a losing streak myself with picks but feel pretty confident in every game tonight besides Colorado vs Ottawa. Minor set back to a big come back. 5-0 tonight let’s go.

Minnesota Wild(10-4-2) vs St. Louis Blues(6-5-3)

The Wild are coming off a 5-1 over Anaheim Friday night, are 8-2 in their last ten and on a two-game win streak. The Wild have found their stride early on, I think a lot of fans thought this team was going to be a decent middle of the pack team since they did not upgrade much at all this offseason. But the Wild have been off an incredible start with a 10-4-2 record, 2nd in the Central and now playing a mediocre St. Louis team. The Blues are on a two-game win streak as well, 5-4-1 in their last ten and coming off a win 4-0 win on home ice over the Sharks. They Blues have picked up since starting off a little slow. Tonight we will see Chad Johnson in net for St. Louis it appears and Devan Dubnyk for Minnesota. I have been high on Minnesota all year so far and I riding the Wild train. Going Wild tonight with the money line. Always money line for NHL games.

Vegas Golden Knights(7-9-1) vs Boston Bruins(9-5-2)

The Golden Knights are coming off a loss to Montreal 5-4, they are going with Malcolm Subban in net tonight, are 4-5-1 in their last ten and have not been the same Vegas team we once saw. They are only scoring 2.47 goals per game, 17.9 percent on the power play and have not found the back of the net consistently this year. The Bruins are coming off a big home win vs Toronto and Jaroslav Halak gets the nod once again as Tuukka Rask is out for a leave of absence. Bruins are 5-3-2 in their last ten and trying to build off a good game vs Toronto where they actually scored. Bruins average 3.06 goals per game and allow 2.5, they are solid defensive team but struggling offensively. The Bruins are coming off a big win and Vegas traveling still, going Bruins here, feeling the under and money line.

Colorado Avalanche(7-6-3) vs Edmonton Oilers(8-7-1)

Both teams are coming into this game struggling a ton, the Avalanche are on a five game skid as the Oilers are on a three-game skid, one of them has to stop bleeding tonight. The Oilers have scored just 5 goals and allowed 13 goals during this skid, all three losses have come on the road and luckily they return home tonight where they are 3-2-1. For the Avalanche they have scored 15 goals and allowed 25 goals during this five-game skid. The Avalanche have lost three games to one goal and while they can score the puck their defense and goaltending which was their strong suit up until now has struggled. This is desperation game for both teams the Avalanche are coming into their fourth road game in five games and need a win bad. I hate to do it but I see the Avalanche taking this game, they are a better offensive team and with the Oilers struggling I think the Avalanche can take this one. Go over and Avalanche.

New Jersey Devils(6-7-1) vs Winnipeg Jets(9-5-1)

This was not the start Devils fans wanted to see they are off to a subpar first 15 games and have a tough test tonight in Winnipeg. The Devils are coming off a back to back losses, vs Toronto and Ottawa, in their last five they have scored just 12 goals while allowing 21 goals. The Devils have struggled early on allowing the 4th most goals against per game (3.5) while only scoring 3.07 goals per game. The Jets are coming into this game off a 5-2 win vs Colorado and starting to get things going in the right direction. The Jets are 4th in the Central and clearly can do better. They are getting a good game vs a struggling New Jersey team that they will need to take advantage of. I am for sure going Jets, over here tonight.

Calgary Flames(10-6-1) vs San Jose Sharks(8-6-3)

Not an ideal start for San Jose through their first 17 games, no one expected them to be undefeated but we did expect them to be a little more consistent. They have been an on/off team, they come some nights and don’t other nights. They are on a two-game skid losing to Dallas 4-3 and St. Louis 4-0, the Sharks average a decent amount of goals with 3.12 goals per game while also allowing a league average of 3.04 goals per game. With a defense like the Sharks we did not expect them to be a 3+ goals against team. The Flames have enjoyed early success and sit among the top of the Western Conference they are coming off a big 1-0 win vs Los Angeles and now go up against a tough San Jose team. This game will be a three goals a piece game, probably a 4-3 finish, Mike Smith is usually always good for allowing 3 goals a game so the Flames will need to supply some offense. The Flames score around 3.24 goals per game while also allowing 3.04 goals per game. Tonight I see San Jose taking the win on home ice, San Jose, over.

Other games on tonight;

Arizona Coyotes vs Washington Capitals; Capitals

Ottawa vs Florida: Florida

FREE NHL Picks: March 26, 2018

Florida Panthers(38-28-7) vs New York Islanders(31-34-10)

The Panthers had a major scare Saturday night with a come from behind win vs Arizona, now they hit the road and face off against another non-playoff team that is struggling a decent amount. The Panthers are three points out of a wild-card spot, two points is a must here tonight. It seems as if Roberto Luongo may be day to day right now and his availability is game time. The Panthers are 6-3-1 in their last ten and are just playing decent enough hockey to stay in this race, they need to win games like this to be a playoff team. When push comes to shove and the Panthers are battling for a playoff spot until the end of the year, games like this are the ones they mark off as a must win. The Islanders come into this game 2-5-3 in their last ten, coming off a loss to Chicago and on a two-game losing streak. Islanders have given the reign to Chris Gibson and will probably let him ride the rest of the year out. Islanders at home, especially with their recent performances, does not worry me. Going with a desperate Panthers team tonight.

Arizona Coyotes(25-39-11) vs Tampa Bay Lightning(51-20-4)

The Coyotes have been playing some of their best hockey as of late, and like most teams in the league they hit a hot spot and ran with it. They come into this game off a loss to Florida but are 5-5-0 in their last ten, going into a game that literally means nothing for the Lightning. The Lightning still need to show up and play, with Nikita Kucherov now having to chase Connor McDavid for the scoring title, I’m sure Kucherov sees this game as an opportunity to slate two to three points. The Lighting coming into this game clinched in a playoff spot but also off a loss to New Jersey on the road. Going back home and a team that wants to gain some confidence and momentum running into the playoffs, going Lighting tonight.

San Jose Sharks(43-23-9) vs Chicago Blackhawks(31-36-9)

The Sharks have been the hottest team in the NHL over the last two weeks, currently riding a 7-game win streak, at this time this is huge for the Sharks. As they approach the playoffs a win streak like this is a major confidence booster. The addition of Evander Kane has been paying off greatly for the Sharks and their offense. We cannot overlook this team now in the first round and the way it seems this team is performing like a top three team in the West. The Sharks come into this game 8-2-0 in their last ten, with a 19-12-6 away record vs, one of the more struggling teams in the NHL. Although the Blackhawks are coming off a win vs the Islanders, they are officially out of the playoffs and are 3-6-1 in their last ten, with a 17-17-4 home record. I don’t think the Sharks freight too much over this game, they handle the Blackhawks with ease and their win streak continues here for sure. Going Sharks.

Colorado Avalanche(41-26-8) vs Vegas Golden Knights(47-21-7)

The Avalanche and Golden Knights played two days ago a matter of fact. The Avalanche won in a shootout 2-1, and this was in Colorado so the series goes back to Vegas, where at the beginning of the year Vegas won 7-0. The Golden Knights on home ice are lethal and they are definitely not going to let the Av’s come into their home barn and beat them back to back times in just a matter of two days. The Avalanche really need all the points they can get as they are one point in a playoff spot with a hot Blues team on their back and two very veterans rostered teams on their back as well. The Avalanche are 6-2-2 in their last ten and their last win came against Vegas. Vegas is 5-3-2 in their last ten. Since Anaheim didn’t beat Edmonton Sunday night, Vegas has yet to clinch the playoffs so with either one or two points Vegas clinches a spot and I think that is a major factor in this game. I could see this game going into overtime, but at the end of the day, Vegas comes out on top here.

Other games on tonight…

Capitals vs Rangers: Preview ??

Sabres vs Leafs: Leafs

Senators vs Hurricanes: Who cares, stay away from this game not worth it.

Red Wings vs Canadiens: Same as above but go Montreal tonight if you want.

Flames vs Kings: Kings a million percent.

FREE NHL Picks: March 22, 2018

Tampa Bay Lightning(50-19-4) vs New York Islanders(31-32-10)

The Islanders come in this game actually coming off a win and a win vs one of their rival teams the Penguins. It seems as if when the Islanders play good teams and or rival teams a little better. But tonight will be a tough matchup for the Islanders as they welcome the league leaders to Brooklyn. The Lightning come into this game on a two-game win streak off a huge win vs Toronto as well. The Lightning are 7-2-1 in their last ten and have been playing pretty consistent hockey as of late, nothing dominant but hockey that will be bearable come playoff time. They will more than likely be going with Andrei Vasilevskiy in net, although after picking up his 41st win the other night and plus Tampa being locked in a playoff spot, I would not be surprised to see one of their backups go. The Islanders are now 10 points out of a wild-card spot with just 9 games to be played, I am going to have to say they are out. They are 2-5-3 in their last ten and have been playing some really bad hockey. The bright spot per say is that their young goaltender Chris Gibson has been seeing regular time, and despite allowing a handful of goals on most nights, he is 2-1-2, 2.57 goals against and .936 SV %. The future of the Islanders crease perhaps looks a little better. Anyways, even with the Islanders at home and Lightning on the road, both are coming off a day of rest and ready to go here. I’m going Lightning.

Florida Panthers(37-27-7) vs Columbus Blue Jackets(41-28-5)

Wow, the game of the night for sure. The Blue Jackets welcome the red-hot, contending Panthers to Nation Wide arena as they themselves are sporting a 9-game win streak and looking to take over third place in the Metro. The Panthers desperately need any point(s) they can get, as they sit now one point behind New Jersey with two games in hand. The Panthers come into this game 7-2-1 on a two-game win streak ready to face one of the hottest teams in the league. The Panthers will more than likely be going with Roberto Luongo tonight as James Reimer played Tuesday night vs Ottawa. Luongo is 15-9-2, 2.53 GAA and .928 SV % on the year, he has missed some time but since coming back has been a great supplement to the Panthers success. The Blue Jackets will also go with their starter Sergei Bobrovsky, although he did play last game vs the Rangers, the Blue Jackets are rolling and there is no time to lose here. This is going to be a nail-biter, I don’t see either team really blowing the other one out, but it will be a back and forth game. Maybe a little slow to start and then as the game gets going it will get interesting. I hate to say it and hate to do it to the Panthers but I got Columbus tonight. Possibly in overtime but still.

Toronto Maple Leafs(43-23-7) vs Nashville Predators(48-14-10)

This is going to be another great game. I think we see Auston Matthews back in the line up as well, depending on what Mike Babcock wants to do. There is no real rush because the Leafs are staying in that three spot until the playoffs they trail the Bruins by 7 points and the Bruins have a game in hand. Babcock either waits for Matthews to be 1000 percent ready or go for it now and let him get some time in before the playoffs come. Anyways even without Matthews the Leafs have been playing some decent hockey posting a 5-3-2 record in their last ten coming off a tough loss to Atlantic rival Tampa Bay. The Leafs face off against two of the best teams in the league just days apart, something that is not too easy. If Frederick Anderson is not back tonight that means Curtis McElhinney is going again tonight. The Predators are clinched for a playoff spot and probably the President’s trophy, in the last month of play they have looked like the cup favorites, going on a ten game win streak as well picking up a point in 14 of their last 15 games. They post a 9-0-1 record in their last ten and are starting a new win-streak as they have won four straight now. As much as I think this will be a great game, I tried to go Toronto in Tampa Bay last time but going with the best team in the league at home, Nashville tonight.

Los Angeles Kings(40-27-7) vs Colorado Avalanche(40-25-8)

This game has playoff atmosphere written all over it. The Kings vs Wild game was a playoff type game and with the Avalanche just one point ahead of the Kings this is going to be one hell of a game. These two teams are in the wild card spots right now with two other teams on their tail. Every point matters folks. The Avalanche also trail Minnesota for the three spot in the Central by two points, the Av’s are 6-1-3 in their last ten picking up a point in 9 of their last 10 games. The Kings on the other hand, since dropping out and then coming back in the playoff race, I believe have realized how crucial every game is from here on out. This is also going to be the first of two meetings between these two in the next week and a half. The Kings come into this game off an overtime loss to Winnipeg posting a 5-3-2 record in their last ten. I would have to assume with the playoffs on the line and this being a huge game at this point in the season, both these teams are going with their starters here. Jonathan Quick(29-25-2, 2.43 GAA, .921 SV%) and Semyon Varlamov(22-14-6, 2.69 GAA, .919 SV %). This is probably one of the harder choices of the night and I am honestly going to go with the Kings here tonight, feel a big road win out of this club.

Vegas Golden Knights(47-21-5) vs San Jose Sharks(41-23-9)

At one point I could have sworn the Sharks were trailing the Golden Knights by like four points but now, I pick my head up and the Sharks are behind Vegas by 8 points. The Sharks have played some pretty consistent and solid hockey as of late and have secured their ticket to the playoffs for sure. They are 8-2-0 in their last ten, on a 5-game win streak coming off a two days rest. The Sharks have certainly enjoyed the play of Evander Kane and how well he has balanced out these lines, when they get Joe Thornton back, this team can be a contender come April. Anyways, the Golden Knights have tailed off a little bit in the last month or so but are on a two-game winning streak winning their last game against Vancouver. The Golden Knights I believe have beat every inaugural team record and with a win tonight will secure themselves a sure spot in the playoffs making them the third team to do so this season so far. They really only need one point but a win or overtime/shootout loss confirms a playoff spot. The starters for tonight, obviously I think with a playoff berth on the line and against a divisional opponent the Golden Knights go with Marc Andre Fleury(27-11-3, 2.18 GAA, .930 SV%) and the Sharks to continue this win streak and take a huge game from the Golden Knights will willingly and by default go with starter Martin Jones(26-18-5, 2.50 GAA, .916 SV%). This is another tough choice, Sharks are hot, Vegas wants a playoff spot, going to be a playoff-like game for sure and a great one as well. But tonight I am going to go with the hot hand at home, Sharks tonight.

Other games on tonight…

Oilers vs Senators: Oilers

Canucks vs Blackhawks: Blackhawks

Capitals vs Red Wings: Capitals

Coyotes vs Hurricanes: Hurricanes

FREE NHL Picks: March 21, 2018

Arizona Coyotes(24-37-11) vs Buffalo Sabres(23-37-12)

So both these teams are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs(nerds) and I guess once a team hears their season is over they play better? Because right now in Buffalo’s last ten games they are above .500 (5-4-1) and Arizona is 6-3-1 coming off a smack down on Calgary. Over the last month and a half of play, Arizona has played some of it’s best hockey though losing 10 games of their last 23 games, making them 13-10 in their last month and a half of play. They played like this all year they could have been a playoff team, alright maybe not but still. Same goes for Buffalo as their season progressively got worse and the playoffs quickly were out of sights they have been playing a tad better as well. This game literally means nothing, whoever wins essentially kind of hurts themselves because they are the two favorites for the first overall pick right now and have almost identical records. The winner just loses some chances of drafting Rasmus Dahlin, so basically you want to lose. I’m going with Arizona here tonight, the better team I think and playing better as of late. Go Yotes.

Montreal Canadiens(26-35-12) vs Pittsburgh Penguins(41-27-5)

I believe the Canadiens are eliminated from the playoff contention as well, not a shocker there though, I think around game 25 they were done. The Canadiens did have Carey Price back on the ice during practice recently and is said to be a starter for tonight. This will be Prices first start in net since being sidelined February 20th. Not a Vezina year for the all-star goalie but, due to health issues Price has not been the same all season. On the road especially is where he struggles, posting a 4-15-1 record with a 3.36 GAA and .897 SV %. Plus with Pittsburgh coming off a bad loss Tuesday night, and at home, Price will have a tough time tonight. The Penguins come into this game in a playoff spot and 100% making the playoffs, they are 5-4-1 in their last ten, with a 26-8-1 home record. Penguins need to win tonight as the Blue Jackets are slowly inching up on them now, to secure a decent first-round opponent the Penguins want first in the Metro, going Penguins tonight for sure.

Boston Bruins(45-17-9) vs St. Louis Blues(39-28-5)

Whoever schedules these games on NBCSN must really like the Blues, I want to say this is their third time on NBCSN in like the last month. Anyways the Blues come into this game three points out of a playoff spot and on a two-game win streak, coming off a win vs Chicago and the Rangers, so there last two wins were nothing great. The Bruins, well are the Bruins, they have been one of the most consistent and dominant teams in the NHL all year. They are 5 points away from the Lightning for the first spot in the Atlantic, and also 7-2-1 in their last ten games. The Bruins will more than likely be going with Tuukka Rask tonight who is 30-11-5, 2.35 GAA and .916 save percentage this season. The Blues have confirmed they will be going with Jake Allen, at one point Allen was their back up but has been seeing more time as of late. Allen is 23-21-2, 2.79 GAA and .905 SV % on the year. In Allen’s last six starts he has allowed 15 goals, collecting 4 wins. He has been playing a tad better lately but coming off a four-goal game vs Chicago to now vs Boston is not going to be easy for Allen. The Bruins are definitely the better team here but, with the playoffs around the corner and the Blues trying to steal a spot, anything can happen. Anyways, I’m going Boston tonight.

Anaheim Ducks(37-24-12) vs Calgary Flames(35-29-10)

The Ducks come into this game on a three-game win streak and two-day rest, and also against a team that has been struggling immensely, who just recently lost Monday night to the Coyotes on home ice. The Flames that is. The Flames have plummented out of a playoff spot with a 3-6-1 record in their last ten and a three-game losing streak. Even being at home the Flames do not play well with a 15-17-4 record, they have been very inconsistent and at this time in the season as they sit 6 points out, we can rule the Flames out right now. The Ducks need these two points to create some seperation for a playoff spot. No confrimed goalie for tonight but we would have to assume Mike Smith and John Gibson for both clubs as that is their starter. Tonight is a easy chocie for me going Ducks.

FREE NHL Picks: March 20, 2018

Pittsburgh Penguins(41-26-5) vs New York Islanders(30-32-10)

The Islanders are out of a playoff spot, for anyone that truly believes they still have a shot you sir are delusional. They have now dropped 9 of their last ten games, lost 3 of those in overtime and are currently on a three-game losing streak. They’ve picked up 5 points of the last possible 20 points and 1000 percent out of it. They have 9 games remaining after tonight and, right now it does not look good for New York. They usually play Pittsburgh well, but right now this deep in the season with the Penguins looking to make a run at first, I can’t see them dropping to the Islanders. These two have faced off three times prior to this and 2 of the three games have gone to overtime, the Penguins hold the season series 3-0, looking for the season sweep here. In their last ten, the Penguins are 5-4-1, playing mediocre hockey as of late. On top of the Penguins struggles they are a decent road team, posting a below .500 road record, 15-18-4, also dropping 4 of their last five road games. The Penguins are certainly the better team, even with Tristian Jarry or Casey DeSmith in net the Penguins are most definitely the favorites here tonight, going Penguins.

Dallas Stars(38-27-8) vs Washington Capitals(41-25-7)

Day 1 of 9 without Ben Bishop starts tonight, the Stars get their first test vs the Capitals and Kari Lehtonen gets his first start in a week. The Stars are in serious trouble here as the Kings won Monday night they now sit two points out of a wild-card spot and have a very tough remaining schedule ahead of them. They are 2-4-4 in their last ten while posting a 14-17-5 road record. A lot of pressure is on the Stars top three guys of Radulov-Benn-Seguin, the only three who really do anything for this team and now they are really going to be called upon. As the Capitals more than likely have a playoff spot locked down, they still could drop out of first so every point is crucial for this team as well. The Capitals are 6-4-0 in their last ten coming off a loss to Philadelphia, with the Penguins behind them by 2 points and Flyers by 4 points. These last few games will not be easy for Washington and the race for the number one seed in the Metropolitan division is going to come down to the wire. Tonight, I may go with the road dogs here the Stars know how desperate they will need to play and how crucial this game is, I see a full team effort and a solid performance out of Lehtonen, call me crazy, going Stars.

Florida Panthers(36-27-7) vs Ottawa Senators(26-34-11)

The Panthers got the first job done of the week, now they have to face yet another non-playoff opponent and this game is another MUST win, going back to back won’t be easy but the Panthers with a win over Montreal Monday night sit now three points out, with two games in hand. The Panthers will probably go with James Reimer as Roberto Luongo started Monday night. Reimer last start came against the Bruins March 15, in which he posted a 46 save shutout. When Luongo was out Reimer did play his part fairly well and did all he could to keep the Panthers afloat. On the season Reimer has 17 wins, 3.06 GAA and .910 save percentage. Ottawa though, will not be an easy opponent, playing spoilers hockey and a team playing a little better over the last month, they will give the Panthers a run for there money. The Senators are 5-4-1 in their last ten with a 15-14-6 home record and having beat teams like the Lightning, Dallas, and Vegas recently this team is not going to be an easy feat. Also, the Panthers and Ottawa faced off just last week(March 12), where the Senators beat the Panthers 5-3. These two have met two times already and the series is tied 1-1, after the Senators beating Florida I see Florida coming out flying. Going Panthers here tonight.

Philadelphia Flyers(37-25-11) vs Detroit Red Wings(26-35-11)

Wow, the wheels have fallen off the wagon for Detroit here, just a little while ago I feel like I remember seeing this team with a .500 record, but after dropping 10 straight the Red Wings are really struggling they are 0-9-1 in their last ten. The storyline of tonight will be Petr Mrazek’s return to Detroit since the trade and also if the Red Wings can snap out of their drought and actually win. The Red Wings and Flyers have met now two times already and each game has been a one-goal game, one game went to overtime as well. But with the Flyers battling for some playoff separation from the Blue Jackets and posting a 3-6-1 record in their last ten, I would find it very hard to see this team lose. Mrazek will come out hungry I think and the Flyers will run this team into the ground. Going Flyers tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs(43-22-7) vs Tampa Bay Lightning(49-19-4)

The Lightning have clinched the playoffs making them the second team to do so, but tonight will have a playoff atmosphere to it, so the Lightning better not think this is going to be some wash away game. These two have met now three times already and every game has been a playoff-type game, the Lightning hold the season series at 2-1, winning the last matchup in a shootout. If anyone caught the Kings vs Wild game Monday night, this game will look very similar to that one. The Leafs will be without Auston Matthews again tonight, as well Frederick Anderson is uncertain for tonight. The only issue the Lightning have is playing without Ondrej Palat, not a big loss. The Lightning come into this game posting a 7-2-1 record in their last ten with a 26-8-2 home record, coming off a road win vs Edmonton. The Leafs come into this game with a 6-2-2 record in their last ten, on a four-game win streak, with an 18-14-5 record. The Leafs will probably go with Curtis McElhinney, who is coming off a 33 save shutout vs Montreal and a win in his last three starts. The Leafs are flying high right now even without Matthews. This is going to be the game of the night for sure, even with the Leafs 9 points behind the Lightning, they are a hungry team right now and they are running with a ton of momentum into the playoffs now. FREE NHL Picks: March 19, 2018

Columbus Blue Jackets(39-28-5) vs Boston Bruins(45-17-8)

The Blue Jackets come into this game as one of the hottest teams in the NHL, they are currently on a 7-game win streak, 8-2-0 in their last ten and two points behind the Flyers for the third spot in the Metropolitan division. The Blue Jackets since the deadline have shown how their forward depth is playing a major role, Cam Atkinson being back and healthy helps a ton and they’re certainly making a serious case for the playoffs now. But the Bruins themselves are 8-2-0 in their last ten, and coming off a shutout win over one of the best teams in the NHL. The Bruins are also home, where they play very solid hockey, the Blue Jackets last 7 wins, 4 of them have come at home and 3 on the road. The Blue Jackets are obviously coming into this game as the underdogs but with their recent play, the Bruins cannot overlook them. The Bruins indeed do have one of the best rosters and playing some of the most consistent hockey as of late but they still are welcoming a very tough Metro opponent. This is going to be a nail-biter for sure, I would not be surprised to see this be a low scoring game and possibly head to extra time. Tonight I am going to have to go with the Bruins ending the Blue Jackets streak at seven. Going Bruins.

Florida Panthers(35-27-7) vs Montreal Canadiens(26-34-12)

This is a huge game for the Panthers, as the Devils dropped their game Sunday night, they now sit 5 points behind the Devils with three games in hand. This is a MUST win for the Panthers, against a non-playoff team and a game that starts their week, a win starts the week out on the right foot for sure. The Panthers are 7-2-1 in their last ten coming off a bad loss to Edmonton, as Montreal is 3-5-2 in their last ten, on a 2-game skid, coming off a loss to Toronto. Good news I guess for Montreal is that Carey Price was seen at practice the other day. The Panthers have really proved their worth here late in the season, due to the play of Barkov and his career year, Trocheck, Dadonov, Yandle the list goes on. The Panthers have a very solid forward group, accompanied by a solid blueline. The play of veteran goaltender Roberto Luongo is going to be crucial here on out. A must win for Florida, going Panthers tonight.

Los Angeles Kings(39-27-8) vs Minnesota Wild(41-24-7)

This is going to be a GREAT game, the Kings are playing a little better hockey as of late but are coming off a bad shutout loss at home vs New Jersey. The Kings do come into this game on a two-day rest and really need to pick up a point or two. The Wild though at home are not going to be an easy test, the Wild are 6-4-0 in their last ten, on a 2-game win streak, coming off a win vs Arizona and Vegas. The Kings have Dallas, St. Louis and Calgary on their tail, competing with Colorado and Anaheim, the path to the playoffs is not going to be easy for L.A. and another reason why I see them falling off also, by the way. Minnesota is certainly the better team, they are without Jared Spurgeon, but their back end and the front end is still very solid, if Devan Dubynk plays well, stands strong I don’t see Minnesota dropping this. One way I see L.A. taking this game is by Jonathan Quick stealing it, which is possible but very difficult. The Kings and Wild have met one time prior to this during December in L.A. in which the Kings won. Going to Minnesota here where the Wild have lost just 6 games this year at, going Wild tonight.

Other games on tonight…

Predators vs Sabres: No need to write a full card here, the game means nothing, Buffalo is officially out and the Preds have clinched. Going Preds tonight.

Flames vs Coyotes: This is going to be an interesting game although Arizona is out of it, the Flames are battling and struggling as of late, a must win for the Flames but the Coyotes have been playing great spoiler hockey lately. Going Flames though.
