New York Knicks and Anthony Davis Should Stay Far Away From Each Other

With recent news of Anthony Davis wanting out of New Orleans, many fans and analysts have put out trade destinations such as Davis going to the Lakers, Raptors, Celtics and even the forever struggling New York Knicks.

The Knicks should not look to entertain a trade for Anthony Davis as this would mean sacrificing talents such as Kevin Knox, Allonzo Trier, Kristaps Porzingis and even potentially the #1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft which can turn into Zion Williamson or even R.J. Barrett. Two players who can elevate your franchise.

A core of Zion/Barrett, Porzingis and Knox would be a great core to build off of for the Knicks. It’s a core that could potentially be a big-time threat in a couple of years.

If you are the Knicks you have to ask yourself is Anthony Davis really worth giving up your future for?

The Knicks necessarily hasn’t been a winning situation for anyone and this should raise concerns on Anthony Davis’ end. What is the difference between the situation in New Orleans and the Knicks?

Trading for Davis would be a risk for the Knicks end as you would have to give up a lot of young assets for him. Davis would be paired up with no one once he gets there. The Knicks would have to pray to the basketball gods that a top free agent will come there in the summer.

The Knicks haven’t been serious contenders for a long time and is looked to be one of the laughing stock franchises in the NBA.

If a trade does go down and the Knicks land Davis, you are going to have to be 100% certain Kevin Durant or Kawhi Leonard will come to the Big Apple. If there are any uncertainties that with these players not coming, you are setting Anthony Davis up to fail.

Ultimately, the Knicks shouldn’t throw away the years they are rebuilding for Davis. From the history books, winning championships come from building through the draft and the Knicks have plenty of young players with upside. Don’t throw those years away.

Early Top 5 NBA MVP Candidates

The NBA season has been full of surprises, we have seen the rise of the Denver Nuggets and the fall of the Houston Rockets. Questions remain with all the surprises in the NBA, who will be the MVP this season?

The NBA MVP race has been interesting this season. We have seen remarkable plays and emergence of many players. Here are the 5 players who are the top candidates to win MVP this season:

5. Anthony Davis

Team: New Orleans Pelicans
Record: 14-15
Stats: 27.4 Points 12.2 Rebounds 4.8 Assists 2.8 Blocks

Anthony Davis has been an MVP caliber player for the past four seasons, but his team hasn’t produced the wins for Davis to be a serious candidate. Davis is doing it all for the Pelicans this season. He is producing on both sides of the court, offense, and defense.

The Pelicans are 4-6 in their last 10 games falling to the 10th seed in the Western Conference. For Davis to win MVP this season, his team has to start winning. Davis has MVP caliber stats but unfortunately is not winning games to back up his case for MVP.

Davis does have a decent supporting cast to pull out wins but the Pels haven’t found a way to win games consistently. The Pelicans as a team rank 2nd in both points per game and assists per game. The offense is there for the Pelicans but they must be consistent on this end and also on the defensive end.

4. Stephen Curry

Team: Golden State Warriors
Record: 19-9
Stats: 30.1 Points 5.8 Assists 5.2 Rebounds 1.1 Steals

Stephen Curry is always an MVP candidate every year since 2015. His tremendous shooting ability, playmaking, and overall offensive abilities have helped lead the Warriors to a winning culture.

Curry is currently having a 50/50/90 season. The last person to achieve this historic stat for a season is his coach Steve Kerr in the 1995-1996 season with the Chicago Bulls. Curry is shooting 51% from the field, 50% from the 3, and 93% from the free throw line. These historic shooting numbers from Curry will help elevate his case for MVP this season.

Curry’s MVP case might be tarnished due to early season injuries as well as being on a super team with Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Curry is having a historic season and is easily the best player on the Warriors. He will have plenty of nods to be in the MVP conversation this year.

3. Kawhi Leonard

Team: Toronto Raptors
Record: 22-7
Stats: 26.1 Points 3 Assists 8.3 Rebounds 1.9 Steals

The Toronto Raptors are currently the best team in the NBA, holding the best record in the league. This is in large part due to the remarkable play by Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard is the best player on the raptors and affects the floor both on offense and defense. With the help of Kyle Lowry, Danny Green and Serge Ibaka, the Raptors may find themselves in the NBA Finals in June.

After his dramatic departure from San Antonio during the offseason, Leonard is reminding everyone that he is a Top 5 player in the league.

With the Raptors rolling this season, Leonard is a top MVP candidate this year.

2. Lebron James

Team: Los Angeles Lakers
Record: 17-10
Stats: 28.3 Points 7.1 Assists 7 Rebounds 1.3 Steals

A 33-year-old Lebron James is leading the Lakers to a 5th seed in the Brutal Western Conference. James is averaging close to a triple-double and producing wins for this Lakers roster whose next best player is Kyle Kuzma.

James is on a tear this season and has been the sole reason this Laker team is winning games. He has the best chance to take the MVP trophy home this season if he continues to produce more wins for his team. He has played in every single game this season and it seems like he is getting better with age.

The Lakers have won 7 games in their last 10 games. James continues to exceed expectations year in and year out as he is leading this team who has struggled the past 5 years to the playoffs. The Lakers are 1.5 games behind from being the number one seed in the conference. With how the Lakers are playing, they might be the first seed by Christmas.

James is leading the Lakers in Points, Rebounds and assists for the Lakers. His Player Efficiency Rating (PER) is the highest on the team at 27.4. Next highest is Kyle Kuzma at 16.1 PER.

1. Giannis Antentokoumpo

Team: Milwaukee Bucks
Record: 18-8
Stats: 26.5 Points 13.3 Rebounds 6 Assists 1.3 Blocks

Giannis Antentokoumpo is doing everything for the Bucks, scoring, grabbing rebounds, playing defense, dishing out assists. 2019 is the year of the Greek Freak as he has lifted the Bucks to the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference.

Giannis is the best player in the Eastern Conference. He is a nightmare for any team. Giannis hasn’t quite figured out his shooting ability in the NBA yet, only shooting 11% but is still finding a way to score buckets and be a force in the league.

The Bucks are a scary team to face as they currently rank 1st as a team in points per game and rebound per game. They also rank 4th in assists per game being one of the more unselfish teams in the league.

Giannis is leading the team in Points, Rebounds, assists and steals basically every statistical category other than blocks which Brook Lopez currently leads the team in.

Giannis is 4th in PER, ranking only behind Steph Curry, Boban Marjanovic and Anthony Davis.

The Bucks are a difficult and scary team to face this season and that is due to the rise of Giannis Antentokoumpo. Giannis has the best chance to win MVP this year as he doing everything and winning with the Bucks.

Kyrie Irving Erupts for 43, in Celtics Win over Toronto Raptors Friday night

Coming into Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors we somehow knew the Celtics had this game circled on their calendar after losing to this team by 12 in their first encounter. Although this time around things were different, the Celtics were at TD Garden and Kyrie Irving seems to be back in basketball shape as he dropped a season high 43 points in the win.

Celtics vs. Raptors Overview

Both All Stars for both clubs put on a show in Friday’s game, Raptors Kawhi Leonard dropped a team high 31 points and 15 rebounds, while Irving had 43 points and 11 assists. Second year player Jayson Tatum chipped in with some clutch plays down the stretched, he finished with 21 points and 7 rebounds.

Boston’s struggles on the offensive end affected the game through three quarters, as the Raptors were in full control. Boston was outscored 30-24 in the third quarter, which helped the Raptors hold a four point lead heading into the fourth. Things looked to be going in the same direction as it did in their first meeting, but Irving had other plans. Irving scored 23 of his 43 points in the fourth and overtime periods.

“It’s just not too often during the regular season you get to have games like this,” Irving said. “So you want to take full advantage of them. They’re a great test for your team on both ends of the basketball floor. A great player in the other locker room. So you’ve just got to be on your P’s and Qs for the unknown, and that’s the competition.”

Attacking the Rim

The difference for the Celtics in the fourth quarter was their aggressive play at attacking the rim. Through three quarters Boston was settling for outside and tough contested jumpers, which hurt them on the scoreboard. Toronto on the other hand had attempted 25 free throws before the start of the fourth quarter, the Celtics had only taken 12.

Celtics head coach Brad Stevens emphasized the teams need to get to the hole, “We need to do a better job at attacking the paint, period,” said Stevens. “Kyrie’s ability to get in there is so unique. We just need to be better at that.”

In fact Irving’s unique ability was on full display during the fourth as he was attacking the basket at ease with multiple Raptor defenders clogging the paint. This included a fast break layup with three Raptors around him and a tough one handed shot over Serge Ibaka. “It’s just a mindset,” Irving said. “It’s a mindset that we just have to ingrain in all of us.”1062681706.jpg.0

“Just find that happy balance of the 3-pint line as well as getting to the rim and then not taking tough 2’s but taking 2’s that are off the second-side action or just driving to the rim and being aggressive.”

Free NBA Picks for February 12th, 2018

Saturday, we saw the Wizards control the Bulls easily covering the spread, same with the Warriors as it looked close at the start but blew it out towards the end. The Lake Show kept it close, but lost in the last few minutes not covering the elusive +1.5.

8-4-1 over the past 5 days.

3 more tonight after a Sunday off.

Pistons -2.5 vs the New Orleans Pelicans

917104520.jpg.0

The Pistons have been slumping the past 2 games taking the L against the Hawks and Clippers. The Pelicans seemed to figure it out last game as they took the W over the Nets in double OT. Both teams are 5-5 the past 10. The last time the Pelicans played the Pistons, the Pelicans won by 3. That was with D-Boogie of course, and without Blake Griffin for the Pistons. If Blake Griffin doesn’t struggle mightily shooting tonight, the Pistons should be able to cover and beat the Pelicans by 4 or 5. It should be a close game throughout the whole way, considering the Pelicans are trying to win without D-Boogie. The Pistons need to play like a dominant home team tonight to take down the Pelicans.

Jazz -4.5 vs the San Antonio Spurs

Utah Jazz v Minnesota Timberwolves

This game will be pretty close. The Jazz are riding a 9 game winning streak going 9-1 the past 10. The Spurs are 5-5 the past 10. Yesterday it seemed like the Jazz were going to lose, but after halftime the Jazz easily came back and coasted to an impressive W over the Trail Blazers. I can see the Jazz carrying that over here tonight. It should be a close game though considering the Spurs are an excellent team that fits around the scheme of Popovich. I see the Jazz staying hot at home, winning by 6 or 7.

P.S. Donovan Mitchell is an animal.

Clippers -4.5 vs the Brooklyn Nets

770_n

The Nets are on a 5 game losing streak, going 1-9 the past 10 games. The Nets look to play well at home against a Clippers team who has a lot of uncertainty around them. The Clips are 5-5 the last 10, winning the last 3 of 4. DeAndre Jordan should have a huge game tonight, matching up against Jarret Allen and Jahlil Okafor. Lou Will should have a huge game as well. The Nets will matchup against the Clips at some point during the game, but the Clips should finish the Nets easily covering the spread minus any surprises or runs.

Free NBA Picks for February 10th, 2018

Last night we saw the Celts fall behind after coming back from 20+ failing to cover their spread taking the L. We saw 2 of our picks succeed as the Jazz beat the Hornets by 12. The Rockets did as they were supposed too and beat the Nuggets by 26.

6-3-1 over the past 3 days. 3 picks here tonight

Wizards -6.0 vs the Chicago Bulls

10475278

The once red hot Wizards travel into Chicago on a 6-4 run the past 10. The Bulls are 2-8 the last ten, posting a 12-14 home record. The Wizards lost a close one to the East’s best team in OT. They could be tired tonight, but the Wizards have been playing better without the focus of John Wall. I think they could be gassed, but they are too talented to not cover against a young-injury riddled Chicago Bulls team. I see the Wizards winning by 6 or 7. Take the points if you can. I don’t think it will be a blowout, it should be a close one.

The Wizards won by 4 the last time they both played, under different circumstances of course.

Warriors -11.0 vs the San Antonio Spurs

Golden State Warriors Memphis Grizzlies game at Oracle Arena in Oakland

The Warriors are at home as they face the injury riddled San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors are 20-7 at home this year. The Spurs are 13-15 on the road. The last time these two met, the Warriors won by 22.

The Spurs will be missing Tony Parker and DeJounte Murray, going against the Warriors amazing starting lineup. Without Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs will be exposed to all sorts of  misery as I can see Dub Nation going 15+ over the Spurs. Roll with the best team in the NBA.

Lakers +2.0 vs the Dallas Mavericks

700510245

The Lakers ride into Dallas on a 4 game winning streak. The Lakers are 8-2 the last 10 games. The Mavs are 2-8 the last 10. Despite the trades, I believe the Lakers should have enough fire power to beat a Dallas team which can be streaky at times. If the Mavs hit their shots early, they hit the shots throughout the game.

The Lakers should win this won by 5 or 6. If the Mavs play terrible it could be worse. The Lakers could also lose by 2 or 3. Which also covers the spread. Take the points here as well, it should be a close game.

Thursday Night Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors

This Thursday’s national TV game showcases the defending NBA champs in the Golden State Warriors take on a struggling San Antonio Spurs team. This is their first matchup of the season, the last time they went head-to-head was in the Western Conference Finals, where the Warriors had soundly swept the Spurs.

San Antonio Spurs

Minnesota Timberwolves v San Antonio SpursThe Spurs are in dire need of a win, and tonight is a perfect time for the pendulum to swing the other way for them. The Spurs return home Thursday after four straight road matchups against Eastern Conference teams. The Spurs are also coming off three straight losses, and have been underachieving as of late, as described in the NBA Week in Review here:

NBA Week in Review: 11/1/17

Despite their shortcomings lately, the Spurs have some bright spots that should keep them in contention in the West. Injuries to star forward Kawhi Leonard and point guard Tony Parker has been a burden to the team, but forward LaMarcus Aldridge and guard Dejounte Murray have stepped up to cover their production. LaMarcus Aldridge leads the team with 23.6 points per game, while Murray’s 3.7 assists per game lead the team while he takes over the role of distributor on offense. The Spurs’ defense has not been up to par lately, but a good performance against the Warriors can put this team back on the map.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

Thursday is business as usual for the Golden State Warriors. The defending champs are 5-3, which isn’t as hot of a start as the team wanted. However, the Warriors have won four of their last five games, and are currently showing no signs of a championship hangover.

NBA: Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Clippers

The big three scorers on the team in guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and forward Kevin Durant are dealing, each scoring more than 20 points a game, headlined by Stephen Curry’s 28 points per game. A quiet, yet not so quiet, hustler on the team is forward Draymond Green, the defending NBA defensive player of the year. Green leads the team in assists and rebounds, and is the mouthpiece that brings a lot of stigma, albeit mostly negative, to the team. Together, this unit lead by Steve Kerr looks ready to catch fire again, and are more than prepared to put on a show.

PREDICTION

There’s no doubt that two great teams are going head to head on Thursday. But with injuries to key players on the San Antonio side and the cold streak the Spurs are riding, it’s hard to bet against the Golden State Warriors’ mega-powered offense. Though most conference matchups tend to be nail-biters, the absence of Kawhi Leonard will prove costly in a Warriors’ blowout victory.

You can watch this game Thursday at 8pm EST on TNT.
