NHL Picks March 21st 2019

Detroit Red Wings vs St. Louis Blues:

This one should not be too hard for people to decide between. Blues are going to need all the momentum they can get moving into the playoffs. They are coming off a convincing win vs the Oilers Tuesday night and the Red Wings are coming off a win vs the Rangers. Blues are 18-15-2 at home this season and 4-4-2 in their last ten games. They should easily handle the Red Wings with no issues. The over/under is 5.5 and Blues are -360, therefore heavily favorites to win this game. I’d go with the Blues to cover a two-goal spread as well. They are getting Patrick Maroon back on the board, David Perron is back, Jaden Schwartz is red hot. I can see a 5-goal game from St. Louis here.

Winnipeg Jets vs Golden Knights

This is going to be a great game. These two have played two times already this season. The Jets have won both games, one in Winnipeg and one in Vegas. The only downside for Winnipeg is that Connor Hellebyuck will not be in net (probable) as he played Wednesday night and the Jets are on a back to back and the Golden Knights have Marc Andre-Fleury their ace in net. The Jets 7-3-0 in their last ten on a four-game win streak but, Vegas is 9-1-0 in their last ten and on a three-game win streak. The Golden Knights are going to use their quick pace, high tempo hockey to their advantage and probably try to push the game speed on the Jets as the Jets are on back to back going from Anaheim to Vegas in 24 hours. I like Vegas tonight. Probably the under too.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Nashville Predators

The Penguins do not seem like the same team as they have been in the past but they are still a team you do not take lightly. They have lost three-straight now and have scored four goals in those three games. They have Phil Kessel who has been quiet, Jared McCann who has been quiet lately and Evgeni Malkin not producing a lot either. The Predators are on a three-game win streak and coming off a big home win shutout vs the Leafs. As much as the Predators may regarded as the favorite here, I like the Penguins. For some reason something tells me the Penguins come into this game a little over looked by Nashville, they jump out hot and control the tempo and Predators play catch up all game. I see a big game from Malkin and Matt Murray tonight. Going Penguins on the road.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs Edmonton Oilers

The Blue Jackets are playing with fire right now. With only 9 games remaining they are barely in a playoff spot, leading Montreal by one point (who play at home tonight) and Flyers by six points. The Blue Jackets need to win this game. And if they do not win here tonight, I could see the Canadiens sneaking in the last wild card spot. The Blue Jackets are 4-5-1 in their last ten and have dropped two straight games. As the Oilers are 6-4-0 in their last ten and on a two game skid as well. The Blue Jackets have a huge advantage here tonight and need to win this game to at least give them some confidence moving forward. I except the Blue Jackets to come out flying and win 4-1.

Arizona Coyotes vs Florida Panthers

The Coyotes are in the same boat as the Blue Jackets. They have dropped two straight and have a one point lead on Minnesota for the last wild card spot. The Coyotes do not get an easy opponent either as the Panthers are a tough team and a very strong offensive tam that loves to shoot the puck from everywhere. We will have to see a great defensive game from Arizona and Darcy Kuemper. The Coyotes manage to get on the Panthers early I think wee an Arizona win but if the game is tight and or tied until the third I like the Panthers. Florida is 18-12-6 at home and 4-4-2 in their last ten as the Coyotes are 18-16-2 on the road and 6-3-1 in their last ten. I like the Coyotes tonight though.

NHL Picks For NHL Wednesday Rivalry Night

Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Red Wings: NBCSN 7:30PM

The Blackhawks have won now 12 of their last 14 games, are 8-2-0 in their last ten coming off an 8-7 win vs Ottawa and 11-15-3 on the road this season. As the Red Wings are playing .500 style hockey in yet another rebuild year. The Red Wings are 5-4-1 in their last ten coming off a lose to Philadelphia Sunday night and 12-14-4 at home this season. The Blackhawks recent success has been off the backs of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Alex Debrincat the trio continue to produce and make this Blackhawks team a successful team. Kane heads into Detroit on a 18-game point streak and 40 points in those 18 games. Toews has 10 goals and 8 assists in the last 11 games, Debrincat has 8 goals, 13 assists in the last 11 games, therefore we can assume if the Red Wings do not slow these three guys down they are not winning. The Red Wings are going with Jimmy Howard (likely), Howard is 2-3 in his last five starts with 12 goals against. The Blackhawks goalie seems to be Cam Ward who was brought into the mess vs Ottawa the other night and will look to quickly rebound from that massacre. The last time these two played on February 10th the Blackhawks won 5-2, this is the last time these two will play and I am going with Chicago here.

Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche:

The Jets have dropped their last two games and are 5-3-2 in their last ten games, they have a 15-12 record on the road this season. With yet another Blues win vs Toronto Tuesday night the Jets are only seven points ahead of the Blues. The Avalanche are coming off a big win vs the Golden Knights Monday night. The Av’s though are 2-5-3 in their last ten and 11-12-5 at home this season. The Jets and Av’s goalies are unconfirmed right now but I would assume we see Connor Hellebuyck and Semyon Varlamov in net for both teams. The players to keep an eye on tonight are the obvious ones for Colorado MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog as for Winnipeg it is Brandon Tanev who is coming off back to back games with a goal and Patrik Laine who is in a drought right now. These two have played three times already, the Jets have won 2 of the three. The Jets two wins were by a score of 5-2 and 7-4 as the Avalanche took the last game in Winnipeg not too long ago (Feb. 14) 4-1. Tonight I except the Jets to get back in the win column and win 4-2 tonight.

New York Islanders vs Calgary Flames:

The Islanders will have a great test in front of them tonight as they will put their Metropolitan division leading play to test vs one of the best Western Conference teams. The Islanders have yet to play the Flames this season therefore this will make for a fun match up as both teams are possession heavy teams with very skilled forwards and mobile defenseman. The Islanders goaltending (Lehner or Greiss TBD) will have the edge over Rittich or Smith tonight. If the Islanders can rally around their goaltending they can pick up a big road win here. The Flames are on a two-game win streak but 5-3-2 in their last ten as the Islanders are also on two-game win streak but 6-2-2 in their last ten. The Islanders road record is 17-10-2 as the Flames have a 18-5-5 home record this season. By the looks of it you can tell the Flames are not used to losing at home. The Islanders and Flames take relatively very few penalties therefore we can assume to not see a lot of special teams which will come down to 5 on 5 play a lot. I like the Flames in their own barn tonight.

Boston Bruins vs Vegas Golden Knights: NBCSN, 10:00PM

The Bruins are coming off a big road win in overtime vs the Sharks as the Golden Knights are coming off a bad loss to Colorado. The Bruins are on a six-game win streak, 8-0-2 in their last ten games as the Golden Knights are 3-7-0 in their last ten games. The Golden Knights at home are always tough though as they have a 17-9-3 record this season but the Bruins 14-10-5 road record will look to prevail. If we do see a lot of special teams this game the Bruins will have the advantage as their 2nd ranked power play (26.9) will be put to the test vs the 5th best penalty kill in the league (83.2), but the Golden Knights power play is clicking at 17.6 percent (20th) and Bruins penalty kill is ranked 16th (80.3). Tonight Jaroslav Halak draws in net for Boston who is 15-9-4 on the year with a 2.35 GAA but 2-1-2 with 9 goals against in his last five starts and coming off a shutout vs the Ducks. The Bruins took the first match up vs Vegas this season 4-1 but this time they are in Vegas. Marc Andre Fleury should draw in net for Vegas. Fleury is 29-18-4, a 2.61 GAA but 2-3 in his last five starts coming off three straight losses in which he allowed 4+ in those three games. The Bruins have the upper hand, coming off a big road win, gaining momentum heading into the rough part of the schedule and clicking on all cylinders. I am going Boston on the road.

Thursday Night Live In The Stands Gambling Corner Best NHL Picks

Ottawa Senators vs Detroit Red Wings

The Senators are a little under looked tonight, Detroit is 11-13-1 at home, coming into tonight off a win and 5-5-0 in their last ten. The Senators are equally as bad when they play on the road 7-18-1 with a 4-6-0 record in their last ten coming off a loss. Still even so, I like Ottawa tonight. The Red Wings took the last game they played 2-0 but Ottawa has edged them out two times already this season and I like the season series win for Ottawa here tonight. They won the first two meetings 2-1 in Ottawa and 4-2 in Detroit. The Senators are going with Anders Nilsson tonight who is 3-2 in his last five starts allowing 12 goals in that span. Red Wings go with Jimmy Howard (probable) who is 2-3 in his last five starts allowing 15 goals in that span. Although the Senators are not great right now, I like them vs a team they have been successful against in the past.

New York Islanders vs Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets are on a four-game win streak, gaining some traction in the Metro right now and 5-5-0 in their last ten games. They also have a 15-11-2 home record. As the Islanders are coming off an unexpected loss to Buffalo, 6-2-2 in their last ten and 16-10-2 on the road. The Islanders lead the Blue Jackets by five points, therefore a loss would not kill them but they only lead the Capitals by two points and the Capitals play a tough San Jose team which means perfect chance for the Islanders to gain a four point lead. The Islanders won the first game of the season series 3-2 and this is only the second of four meetings between the two. The Islanders are probably going with Thomas Greiss as Robin Lehner started last game. Greiss is 4-0-1 in his last five games allowing three goals in this five game span. The Blue Jackets go with Sergei Bobrovsky who is coming off a shutout win vs Washington but is 4-1 in his last five starts allowing 12 goals in that span. This is a very tough match up and call to make, I like the Islanders on the road for the sole reason it is a divisional rivalry, the Blue Jackets coming off a win and Islanders coming off a tough loss. Going Islanders.

Colorado Avalanche vs Winnipeg Jets

This seems like it is a shoe-in and the Avalanche are out before it started. The Jets are on a two-game win streak, 5-4-1 in their last ten and 21-6-3 at home. As the Avalanche look to be the old Avalanche we knew from a couple of seasons ago. They are on a 8-game skid, 1-6-3 in their last ten and 12-12-6 on the road. Versus one of the best home teams in the NHL it will be nearly impossible for the struggling Avalanche to come into this building and take a win. The Jets go with Connor Hellebuyck who is 3-1-1 in his last five games allowing 15 goals in that span. Varlamov is obviously winless in his last five games and has allowed 19 goals in his last five games and 3 of his last five losses have come in overtime. The Avalanche have a tough road ahead of them right now with Winnipeg, Vegas, Winnipeg, Chicago in their next five games. Going Winnipeg tonight.

New Jersey Devils vs Chicago Blackhawks

The Devils are full on fold mode. They are not making a run for the playoffs and are juts getting through the season. They are coming off a terrible loss to St. Louis, are 3-6-1 in their last ten and 7-18-3 on the road. The Blackhawks are coming off a tough loss to Boston but head back home. Where they are 12-10-6 but also are 7-3-0 in their last ten games. The Blackhawks are 5-2-3 in their last ten home games though and have been playing well at home recently. The Devils are 4-6-0 in their last ten road games. The Devils seem to be going with Corey Schneider in net as the Hawks go with Cam Ward. Schneider is 0-6-2 with a 4.12 goals against on the year, while Ward has won his last four starts allowing 9 goals in that span. Going Blackhawks tonight.

Vancouver Canucks vs Los Angeles Kings

The Canucks are coming off a tough loss to Anaheim where they got blanked by rookie goaltender Kevin Boyle. The Ducks snapped a 7-game skid vs the Canucks and that is not going to sit well for them tonight. The Canucks are 12-15-4 on the road, with a 4-5-1 record in their last ten. As the Kings come into this one off back to back losses and are 5-3-2 in their last ten games with a 12-13-1 record at home. The Canucks give their newly acquired goaltender Marek Mazanec the start. Mazanec has played in 25 NHL games with a 8-13-4 record, 2.98 goals against and .895 save percentage. The Kings go with Jonathan Quick who is 2-2-1 in his last five starts allowing 19 goals in that span and 5+ in his last two starts. Going Canucks here tonight, they want to be a playoff team and have any shot at contending a back to back game with the odds stacked against you. This is how you make the playoffs. Also except a good game from the new goaltender Mazanec who has been shuffled around the NHL his entire career.

Recap of picks:

  • Senators
  • Islanders
  • Jets
  • Blackhawks

Top Picks For The Action Packed NHL Saturday Slate

Colorado Avalanche vs New York Islanders:

The Islanders are coming into this game favorites of course winning 7 of their last ten gams, earning a point in 9 of those 10 games and playing the five-game losing streak Avalanche, 2-7-1 and 12-12-4 record on the road. The Islanders should have no problem with this game. I do make it seem like the Islanders are going to walk into the Barclays having already won but I do believe they take this game tonight. Robin Lehner is the expected started who did earn January player of the month honors and is playing unbelievably right now. As the Avalanche have Semyon Varlamov in net who has not found his rhythm since coming back from injury. All in all the Islanders have a record of 14-3-2 in their last 19 games and have made history this season earning 32 points in 23-game span the first time since their cup run in 1981-82. The Avalanche on the other hand have lost 15 of their last 18 games and have allowed four or more goals in the past 13 of these games. The numbers are clear as day, as it may not be the home stadium Islander players would like but they are still on home ice and playing in front of a hungry Islanders crowd. I see the Islanders taking this one with ease.

Nashville Predators vs St. Louis Blues:

This is one of the better match ups tonight, the Blues started the first 30 games or so on the wrong end of things and were deemed one of the most disappointing teams this season. Well in recent weeks the have completely 360 their and are now in the first wild card spot. Coming off a shutout win vs Tampa Bay the Blues recent success has been backed by rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington who is making his seventh consecutive start today. The Blues are 8-2-1 in their last 11 games and Binnington is 8-1-1 with a 1.70 goals against in 10 starts this season. The Predators are on a three-game win streak right now and first match up vs St. Louis all year. The Predators go with Pekka Rinne today who is 5-1-1 in his last six games and 11-4-2 in his last 17 starts. The Blues are looking for their fifth straight win which could be possible on home-ice. We all look at this game as the Predators to be the clear winner but the Blues have been hot lately do not count this team out. I am going with Blues to win.

Dallas Stars vs Arizona Coyotes:

This is not a game you expected to see on this slate but the Stars are looking to extend their point streak to seven games as the Coyotes are looking to end a five-game skid. The Coyotes are expected to go with Darcy Kuemper who is 11-13-5 on the year with a 2.78 goals against. The Stars are going with Anton Khudobin who started last game making 21 saves in their loss to Nashville. The Coyotes are 0-9-0 since March 24, 2016 vs the Stars and the Stars have already beat the Coyotes two times this season. The Stars need all the points they can get right now as the playoff race ensues. The star power of Dallas will need to continue to propel this team as Tyler Seguin has six points in four games and will look to continue his hot streak tonight. Tonight I am going Dallas.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens:

Game of the night probably. The Leafs lead the Canadiens by one point in the Atlantic, therefore if the Canadiens win this game they take second place by one point. Both teams come into this game on a three-game win streak the Canadiens though are 7-1-1 in their last ten games as the Leafs are 5-4-1. The Canadiens go with Carey Price who is 23-13-4 this season with a 2.52 goals against and Leafs Frederick Anderson who is 24-11-2 with a 2.56 goals against. The Leafs are 16-6-2 on the road this season as the Canadiens are 17-10-3 at home. The two have played each other one time this season already that resulted in a Leafs overtime win on October 3rd, 2018. This will be match up number two of four. The Leafs and Canadiens play each other one more time before February ends and then play one of the last games of the season vs each other. This will be a offensive filled game, we could see the over hit, and a possible 5-4, 4-3 match up. On home ice and the Canadiens recent streak, the Leafs get them one more time at home this season, Bell Centre will be rocking going Canadiens tonight.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Tampa Bay Lightning:

The Lightning are coming off a tough loss to St. Louis as are the Penguins who lost to Carolina 4-0. Both teams got shutout in their recent games which only means we can probably expect a 4-3 style game, power play action and a lot of offense. Very rarely do we see two of the best teams in the NHL score no goals and then go at it next time vs each other to be a 1-0, 2-1 game. The Lightning are two-game losing streak, 5-3-2 in their last ten and 20-5-2 on home ice this season. The Penguins are going through a rough patch right now as they are 3-6-1 in their last ten on a three-game losing streak and 13-9-5 on the road this season. The two have played each other two times already this year and the series is split at one a piece. Both games have resulted in 6+ goals, first game was 4-3 Tampa Bay and second game which came recently was Pittsburgh 4-2. We can expect a similar score tonight. The Lightning are expected to go with Andrei Vasilevskiy as the Penguins are probably going with Casey DeSmith following poor play of Matt Murray and his recent injury. The Penguins need a win here bad to get out of this funk. This is a tough one and I believe Penguins take a big one on the road.

Calgary Flames vs Vancouver Canucks:

The Flames are one of if not the best team in the NHL. They have been consistent all year and have seemed to take that Pacific division under control, although with the Sharks behind them by two points and playing the Oilers the Flames need these two points. The Flames are 7-2-1 in their last ten games have a 17-10-0 record in the road as the Canucks have dropped their last three and are 4-3-3 in their last ten with a 12-10-3 record at home. These two have played each other already three times this season and Vancouver has taken two of the three which means the Flames are not goin to lose the season series and will win this one (in my eyes). The previous three games resulted in a 5-2 Canucks win, 7-4 Flames win and 3-2 Canucks OT win. This probably means we can anticipate a 4-2 style game. The Flames are going with David Rittich in net who is 20-4-4 on the year with a 2.54 goals against as the Canucks go with Jacob Markstrom who is 20-15-6 on the year with a 2.81 goals against. Like I said I doubt the Flames drop two straight to the Canucks and essentially lose seasons series here tonight. Even on the road I am expecting a Flames win.

Recap of picks:

FREE NHL PICKS: January 14, 2019

Colorado Avalanche vs Toronto Maple Leafs

There is probably very little chance the Avalanche win this game. They have dropped 7 of their last 10, on a three-game losing streak and the Leafs are getting Frederick Anderson back in net. The Leafs are also coming off a loss to the Bruins therefore on home ice I’d be shocked to see the Leafs lose. The Leafs are 13-9-1 on home ice and 6-4-0 in their last ten. The Avalanche have Philip Grubauer in net who has a 3.29 goals against, which means with the way things are going in Colorado this game could get out of hand fast. The Avalanche are +1.5 and +160 the Leafs are -1.5 and -190, I’d be confident enough to say Leafs to cover 1.5 spread.

Minnesota Wild vs Philadelphia Flyers

This could not be a worse game to bet on, both teams are so unpredictable right now but the Flyers are playing terrible. At home even the Flyers are still 8-10-3, also note that the Flyers have lost 7 of their last 10 and have been on a slippery slope since late November. The Wild who struggled greatly in recent games have found a way to win some games, they are 5-4-1 in their last ten and 11-11-0 on the road. The Flyers are going with Carter Hart, while he may be the only goalie the Flyers have to possibly steal a game, I don’t see the Wild winning this game. The Flyers are +1.5 and +100 while Minnesota is -1.5 and -120, the over/under is also six goals but both teams average around 2.7 goals per game. So either go under or Wild -120.

Montreal Canadiens vs Boston Bruins

Probably best game of the night, the Bruins and Canadiens always put on a great display. The Canadiens have been a major shock to many as they are three points behind the Bruins a win tonight would be big for Montreal. The Canadiens are a decent road team, 12-8-3 this season and also 6-4-0 in their last ten coming off a win vs Colorado. The Bruins are 16-6-0 at home and 7-3-0 in their last ten. The Bruins are coming off a win vs the Maple Leafs. Both teams score around 2.8 goals per game and while the Bruins allow 2.58 and Montreal allows 3.02 goals against this will still be a great, low-scoring game. The Canadiens are +1.5 and +170 while the Bruins are -1.5 and -205. I really could not be less confident in this pick but I really do like the Canadiens tonight.

Chicago Blackhawks vs New Jersey Devils

The Blackhawks and Devils are really not doing too well right now but the Blackhawks are on a three-game losing streak, while the Devils are coming off a win. The Blackhawks are 8-12-3 on the road and 4-3-3 in their last ten. While the Devils are 12-5-4 at home and 5-5-0 in their last ten games. The Devils really only play at home it seems like and the Blackhawks are not going to be an easy opponent just due to the Devils lack of fortunate play lately. The Blackhawks are +1.5 and +135 and the Devils are -1.5 and -155 therefore this game is favored to the Devils. For the sole reason the Devils are home I’d go New Jersey -155.

St. Louis Blues vs Washington Capitals

The Blues have actually won games recently that surprising and most of it is due to their goaltending rookie Jordan Binnington. The Blues are going back to Jake Allen it seems like tonight therefore all signs point to Washington. Either way I was saying Washington. The Capitals are 13-6-3 on the road and 6-2-2 in their last ten games. While the Blues are 8-7-2 at home and 6-4-0 in their last ten. The Capitals have Pheonix Copley going tonight but the Capitals back up has picked up four wins, a 1.93 goals against and .938 save percentage in his last month of play. The Blues are +1.5 and +160 while Capitals are -1.5 and -185, I like the Capitals to cover, going -1.5 Caps.

Buffalo Sabres vs Edmonton Oilers

The Sabres have slowly fallen out of the Atlantic division and seem like there only hope is the wild card at this point. They are 3-6-1 in their last ten games on a two-game skid and 9-10-3 on the road. The Oilers have only the wild card to fight for right now they sit two points out of a spot and these two points could be big time for the Oilers. The Oilers are 11-10-1 at home, 3-7-0 in their last ten. The Oilers are -1.5 and -120, the Sabres are +1.5 and +100, I’d say if possible, go Sabres +1.5 but I think the Oilers win this game.

FREE NHL Picks; December 29, 2018

Minnesota Wild vs Winnipeg Jets

The Jets are atop the Central division while the Wild are slowly falling out of any playoff chance right now. The Jets are 7-3-0 in their last ten and 13-5-0 on home ice, they are coming off a loss to Calgary on home ice. While the Wild are on a five-game losing streak, 3-6-1 in their last ten and 7-10-0 on the road. It has been a tough month and some for the Wild, they went from contenders to pretenders real quick. The Jets are going to handle this game with ease I say, with the Wild banged up a bit on the back end and possibly the Jets back up net minder going tonight, the Jets may score 4+ on the Wild. The Jets average around 3.46 goals to the Wild’s 2.92 goals and the Wild allow 2.86 goals to the Jets 2.81 goals per game. Minnesota’s second ranked penalty kill in the league will have their hands full vs the NHL’s third best power play in the league. I see this game being a 4-2 finish. The over/under is six which can hit but I never usually go o/u for NHL play, the Wild are +1.5 and +165 while the Jets are -1.5 and -165. I would go Jets -1.5 probably.

San Jose Sharks vs Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton is on a current four-game skid while the Sharks are finally starting to come together and be the team we imagined them to be. The Sharks are 2nd in the Pacific as the Oilers are sixth. The Oilers could use a big win here tonight on home ice vs a good Western Conference team. The Oilers are 10-7-1 on home ice and 5-4-1 in their last ten while the Sharks are 8-8-3 on the road and 6-2-2 in their last ten. If both starters go tonight for both teams (Jones vs Koskinen) we will see a relatively low scoring game. Both teams defend fairly well, the Sharks allow 2.92 goals per game vs the Oilers 3.11 goals per game. But the Sharks out score the Oilers for sure with a 3.28 goal per game average vs the Oilers 2.78 goals per game. On a four-game skid the first major losing streak under Ken Hitchcock, the Oilers battling for a playoff spot, on home ice, I think you know where I am going with this. I am feeling Oilers money line tonight. Oilers are +100 and +1.5 as the Sharks are -120 and -1.5, for sure going Oilers money line.

Boston Bruins vs Buffalo Sabres

Since the Sabres win streak they have been extremely sub par, they ae 4-4-2 in their last ten games and coming off a loss to the Blues in St. Louis they now head home where they have had most of their success this season. The Sabres are 12-4-2 at home this season, they average 2.87 goals per game and allow 2.84 goals per game on the year. They have the 5th best penalty kill in the league but also the 18th ranked power play, therefore special teams will be a factor in tonight’s game. Boston is also coming off a loss to New Jersey at TD Garden, the Bruins 6-4-0 in their last ten and currently 5th in the Atlantic and three points behind the Sabres for a top-three spot. The Bruins score 2.79 goals per game but allow 2.66 goals per game. They are the opposite of the Sabres with a 5th ranked power play and 19th ranked penalty kill. The Bruins are coming into this game off a tough loss on home ice and could use these two points to gain some ground on the Sabres right now. The Sabres on the other hand are in the same boat, they have Montreal and Boston creeping up behind them and after a bad loss to St. Louis they need to bounce back. The line is favored in the Sabres hands at +1.5 (-265) and +105 money line, as the Bruins are -1.5 and -125 the over/under of 5.5 looks like a solid option too but with very little offense from these two I am not sure. I would say go Bruins straight up to be honest.

New York Islanders vs Toronto Maple Leafs

This will be the first time the Islanders play the Leafs since John Tavares left the Islanders over the summer. The Leafs are coming into this one on a back to back as too are the Islanders. The Leafs played Columbus in Columbus and now have to head back to Toronto to get ready for a physical game vs the Islanders. The Islanders head coach Barry Trotz said he wants his players to take Tavares departure personally so we can probably see a physical game tonight. The Leafs are one of the best in the league and their current five-game win streak, 6-2-2 record in their last ten and 12-5-1 record at home says so as well. The Islanders are coming off a big come from behind win vs Ottawa Friday night, the Islanders are 6-3-1 in their last ten and 10-8-1 on the road. The Islanders score 2.92 goals per game vs the Leafs 3.79 goals per game. The Islanders allow 2.72 goals per game vs the Leafs 2.76 goals per game. The only way the Islanders have a chance in this game is if they score 5 plus goals and keep up with the Leafs offense. I don’t see the Islanders winning this one, going Leafs.

Detroit Red Wings vs Dallas Stars

This game screams slam the Stars. After the ownership came out and ripped apart Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn I think we can expect a great game from the two, plus on home ice in Dallas the Stars need to win this game. The Stars are 11-5-0 on home ice, 4-6-0 in their last ten as the Red Wings are 7-9-3 on the road, 2-6-2 in their last ten and on a three-game skid. The Stars are currently in a playoff spot and battling for a top three-spot in the Central division. They can easily be a playoff team if they just stay consistent and Seguin and Benn pick it up. The Stars score 2.66 goals per game the Red Wings score 2.79 goals per game, the Stars allow 2.68 goals per game the Red Wings allow 3.26 goals per game. This game with the line it has right now really does favor the Stars, the Stars are -1.5 (+125) and -225 as the Red Wings are +195 and +1.5, I know I am 100% going the Stars to cover the spread. After the outburst from the Stars ownership Seguin and Benn are aware of it and will come out flying this game. Going Stars puck spread.

Other games on tonight:

Washington vs Ottawa: Capitals. (to cover 1.5 as well)

Montreal vs Tampa Bay: Tampa Bay (no line right now)

Philadelphia vs Florida: Panthers (no line right now)

Pittsburgh vs St. Louis: Penguins (wouldn’t gamble on this one, no reward)

Rangers vs Predators: Predators (stay away, bad lines)

Chicago vs Colorado: Colorado (stay away)

Arizona vs Anaheim: Anaheim (no lines right now)

Vancouver vs Calgary: Flames (not worth the headache though)

Parlay for tonight:

Jets (-1.5), Stars (-1.5), Oilers +100 or Jets (-1.5), Capitals (-1.5), Stars (-1.5)

NHL Picks: December 20th 2018

Anaheim Ducks vs Boston Bruins

The Bruins need these two a little more than the Ducks but the Ducks have been on quite the tear, despite losing a surprising one to the Rangers the other night. The Ducks have propelled into third place in the Pacific and are 8-2-0 in their last ten games. The Ducks rarely come to the East Coast and playing on the road is not a strong suit for the Ducks. They are 9-8-0 on the road and this will be their first meeting with the Bruins. The Ducks are not going to come into Boston and walk away with an easy win, they score the same amount of goals as Boston and allow basically the same. The Ducks score 2.53 goals per game, Boston scores 2.74 as the Ducks allow 2.81 goals per game and the Bruins allow 2.59 goals per game. This has all the signs of being a low scoring game. The Bruins still banged up, up front and the Ducks are as well but have a few plug in guys doing their job. This is going to be a tough game, Ducks have two more road games before returning home, they need two or at least one here tonight. Going, Ducks in overtime though.

Montreal Canadiens vs Arizona Coyotes

Is there any reason as to why we always force ourselves into believing the Coyotes are going to be different every year yet they are usually always the same team. Sure they are a little better this year but the Coyotes are not going to be a real tough opponent for many top teams. But a game like Montreal on home ice favors the Coyotes a little more. The Canadiens and Yotes are on a two-game skid, the Coyotes are 4-6-0 in their last ten and 6-9-1 on home ice and the Canadiens are 6-4-0 in their last ten and 7-6-3 on the road. The Coyotes score 2.45 goals per game vs the Coyotes 3.06 goals per game, the Coyotes allow 2.79 goals per game as the Canadiens allow 3.23 goals per game. With Antti Niemi in net for Montreal and Darcy Kemper getting back to back starts. I am going with Coyotes here tonight. Kuemper is going to play one of his best since coming back and the Coyotes play well on home ice. Going Yotes here.

New York Islanders vs Vegas Golden Knights

Both teams are playing pretty similar in their last ten but the Islanders are the better team right now, winning their last three games, the Islanders are 5-3-2 in their last ten and 9-7-2 on the road. As Vegas is 6-3-1 in their last ten and 10-3-1 at home. The Golden Knights last played the Islanders two weeks ago in which they won 3-2, which could mean two things. The Islanders win or Knights win the only two meetings between these two. The Islanders are getting some solid production from their depth guys right now as the Knights have Paul Statsny and Max Pacioretty back finally. The Golden Knights score 2.95 goals per game vs the Islanders 2.85 goals per game. As the two allow basically the same amount of goals against as well Vegas 2.81 vs Islanders 2.73. The Knights on home ice is tough to go against they are a very good home team and almost anytime you see Vegas home you know to go with Vegas. Sticking with the hot team though, going Islanders. Going to be low scoring, 2-1 Islanders here.

Minnesota Wild vs Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins are going on a back to back after playing a tough game vs Washington Wednesday night. The Wild are coming into tonight on a two-game losing streak and 3-7-0 in their last ten. The Wild are also 7-8-0 on the road as the Penguins are 6-3-1 in their last ten and 9-7-2 at home. The Penguins are coming into their full stride finally and it will not be pretty for the Eestern Conference. The Wild are struggling greatly and after the Penguins played a tough game vs Washington this would be the Wild’s best chance to jump on the Penguins early and get a big road win. The Wild have Pittsburgh one more time until the month ends, therefore I could see it being a win here for Minnesota and Pittsburgh take the game on December 31st in Minnesota. Going Wild tonight.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs Calgary Flames

Two of the best teams in the NHL going head to head tonight. The Flames are 8-2-0 in their last ten and 11-3-2 on home ice this season as the Lightning are 9-0-1 in their last ten and 11-3-2 on the road this season. The Lightning score around 4.03 goals per game (1st) vs the Flames 3.49 goals per game (6th), the Flames do allow less goals at 2.69 goals per game (3rd) and the Lightning allow 2.83 goals per game (10th). Both power plays are top-10 in the league, Flames 22.6 percentage vs the Lightnings 29.5. Their penalty kills are also pretty solid although the Lightning’s is much better the Flames have a 79.8 percentage and Lightning have a 84 percentage pk. This is going to be the best game on tonight. This game will probably be decided in the final minutes of the game. Tonight the Flames are going with Mike Smith it seems and the Lightning are going with Andrei Vasilevskiy. This is the first meeting between the two this year, I am feeling the Lightning with a road win, but the Flames Mike Smith and that defense will do a good job shutting down the Lightning’s top guys. Going to be a low scoring game as long as it stays 5 on 5, feeling a Flames win.

Winnipeg Jets vs San Jose Sharks

The Jets dropped a tough in L.A. Tuesday night and now face a hot San Jose team. The Sharks are on a five-game win streak and looking to finally be the team we all expected them to be. The Jets are still the better team, 8-2-0 in their last ten vs the Sharks 7-3-0 record. The Jets though have a 9-6-0 road record and Sharks post a 11-3-2 home record. The Jets score around 3.56 goals per game (4th) and the Sharks score 3.31 goals per game (T8th), both allow around 2.8 goals per game. The big difference maker will be the Jets start, they started out slow vs L.A. Tuesday and they do that again and let San Jose capitalize early get an early lead we may see a San Jose win. The Jets have Vancouver to end the road trip and return home to Calgary and Minnesota until they end December in Edmonton. The Jets need this one because their schedule is not easy and this is a good confidence game here. I like the Jets to end the Sharks five-game win streak and hot home play. The Jets are playing Connor Hellebuyck (2.90 GAA, .908 SV percentage) again and Sharks go Martin Jones (2.81 GAA, .901 SV percentage). Going Jets here with a 4-3 road win.

Other games on tonight:

Nashville vs Philadelphia: Nashville.

Detroit vs Carolina: Unpredictable, no go for me.

Chicago vs Dallas: Dallas.

Florida vs Toronto: Toronto.

New Jersey vs Columbus: No go for me.

St. Louis vs Vancouver: Vancouver.
