Pittsburgh Penguins(7-5-3) vs New Jersey Devils(6-8-1)

Two struggling clubs right now who would of thought at this point in the season these two teams would be where they are right now. The Penguins have slide to now 6th in Metropolitan division losing four of their last ten games. As the Devils are coming off a rough road trip having lost three-straight and now 8th in the Metropolitan division. The Penguins and Devils usually make for a great game, plus the Devils are home again, and I think they know how important getting out of the lose column is right now. They have Pittsburgh this week and still have Philadelphia, Detroit and Carolina upcoming, this could be a potential eight-game skid they don’t get going in the right direction. The Devils are good on home ice luckily picking up five of their six wins this season on home ice. Tonight I am going Devils with Keith Kinkaid in net and Casey DeSmith in the opposing net, going to be a low-scoring game.

Vancouver Canucks(10-7-2) vs New York Islanders(8-6-2)

The Islanders get a good test in the Canucks tonight, although the Canucks are coming into this game on a back to back and a Monday night loss to the Rangers. The Islanders are well rested last playing Saturday. The Islanders were on a hot streak until they have lost their last three games. Luckily they get Vancouver off a back to back which draws in Richard Bashman for his first start of the year. The Canucks have been a unexpected team this year they will for sure put up a good fight but I see the Islanders edging them here. The Islanders are also 3-1-2 on home ice vs Vancouver’s 5-5-2 road record. A hot Thomas Greiss, I like the Islanders tonight, money line as always.

Florida Panthers(6-5-3) vs Philadelphia Flyers(9-7-1)

The Flyers are getting a hot Florida team right now and a Florida offense that is clicking,  which means the Flyers offense will need to be on tonight. Also calls for probably the over hitting. The Panthers are on a four-game win streak coming off a beat down vs Ottawa Sunday night and having scored four plus goals in all four of their recent wins. The Flyers on the other hand are coming off a big win vs Chicago making that three in a row for Philadelphia. Two extremely hot teams that have both their offenses clicking at a great rate right now. They both average the same amount of goals per game (3.29) but the Flyers allow more goals per game on average, Panthers power play is clicking at 21 percent. going to be a high scoring game, either go the over or go Florida.

Tampa Bay Lightning(12-4-1) vs Buffalo Sabres(9-6-2)

The Lightning are heading into Buffalo as what many think will be an easy win for Tampa Bay, the 9-6-2 Sabres will have something to say about that. The Sabres are on a two-game win streak, 5-2-1 on home ice as the Lightning are coming off a loss vs Ottawa and 5-1-1 on the road. The Lightning are clear power houses in the NHL but it is early in the year where anything can happen. The Sabres are 6-2-2 in their last ten compared to the Lightning’s 7-3-0 record. For some odd reason I feel a Sabres win, I just sense a solid game from Buffalo they are moments away from winning 10 games through the first 18 games in nearly 10 years. This is going to be a better game than many think. Sabres, money line.

Washington Capitals(7-6-3) vs Minnesota Wild(11-4-2)

The Capitals a little Stanley Cup hungover? Who knows but they have not looked like the Capitals team we saw in April and June. They are one a two-game losing streak a loss away from being .500 and struggling on the road right now with a 2-3-2 record. As the Wild are the opposite on a three-game win streak, 5-0-2 at home and 8-2 in their last ten games as the Capitals are 4-4-2 in their last ten. The Wild have been solid on both sides of the puck they are scoring goals this season consistently, Devan Dubnyk is playing great, the Wild’s defense seems to be clicking as well. Everything seems to be going right for Minnesota and I will not playing with that mojo, going Wild tonight.

Montreal Canadiens(9-5-3) vs Edmonton Oilers(8-8-1)

The Canadiens are coming into Edmonton as the Oilers are on a four-game slide and 5-5-0 on their last ten games. Over the Oilers losing streak they have managed to allow 17 goals while only scoring 6 goals. The Canadiens on the other hand have managed to score 17 goals over their last four games. The Canadiens can seem to score goals this year for some reason and have been doing it at a pretty consistent rate. Tonight Carey Price goes for Montreal as Edmonton goes Mikko Koskinen who is 3-1 with a 2.64 GAA and .915 save percentage. This is going to be an interesting game as the Oilers are struggling and the Canadiens may not be playing great hockey but they are scoring goals and keeping games close. I would be surprised to see the Oilers drop five straight, going Oilers tonight, money line.

Nashville Predators(13-3-1) vs San Jose Sharks(9-6-3)

I feel like my unpopular opinion picks continue on with this one. I like the Sharks to be honest, they have played some good teams but this is a team they were ranked next to at the beginning of the year as the Predators are just storming through the league. This is a great test to see if San Jose is the real deal or has signs of being a Cup contending team. They have not shown many signs of consistency and Cup contending hockey this year so far but this is game where the Sharks can take and build some major confidence from. The Sharks coming into this game coming off a win vs Calgary and also winning three of their last four games. The Predators are not just a home team this year they are a road team as well as they are 8-0-1 on the road losing their only road game in a shootout vs Anaheim Monday night. Juuse Saros gets the nod tonight and Martin Jones for San Jose, I think this is a good test for San Jose they want to be the best have to beat the best. Going Sharks, over.

Other games on tonight;

Arizona vs Detroit: Please Arizona every time I go against you, you win. So I am going with you this time. Going Yotes.

Toronto vs Los Angeles: Going Toronto, that goalie situation in LA is rough.

Minnesota Wild(10-4-2) vs St. Louis Blues(6-5-3)

The Wild are coming off a 5-1 over Anaheim Friday night, are 8-2 in their last ten and on a two-game win streak. The Wild have found their stride early on, I think a lot of fans thought this team was going to be a decent middle of the pack team since they did not upgrade much at all this offseason. But the Wild have been off an incredible start with a 10-4-2 record, 2nd in the Central and now playing a mediocre St. Louis team. The Blues are on a two-game win streak as well, 5-4-1 in their last ten and coming off a win 4-0 win on home ice over the Sharks. They Blues have picked up since starting off a little slow. Tonight we will see Chad Johnson in net for St. Louis it appears and Devan Dubnyk for Minnesota. I have been high on Minnesota all year so far and I riding the Wild train. Going Wild tonight with the money line. Always money line for NHL games.

Vegas Golden Knights(7-9-1) vs Boston Bruins(9-5-2)

The Golden Knights are coming off a loss to Montreal 5-4, they are going with Malcolm Subban in net tonight, are 4-5-1 in their last ten and have not been the same Vegas team we once saw. They are only scoring 2.47 goals per game, 17.9 percent on the power play and have not found the back of the net consistently this year. The Bruins are coming off a big home win vs Toronto and Jaroslav Halak gets the nod once again as Tuukka Rask is out for a leave of absence. Bruins are 5-3-2 in their last ten and trying to build off a good game vs Toronto where they actually scored. Bruins average 3.06 goals per game and allow 2.5, they are solid defensive team but struggling offensively. The Bruins are coming off a big win and Vegas traveling still, going Bruins here, feeling the under and money line.

Colorado Avalanche(7-6-3) vs Edmonton Oilers(8-7-1)

Both teams are coming into this game struggling a ton, the Avalanche are on a five game skid as the Oilers are on a three-game skid, one of them has to stop bleeding tonight. The Oilers have scored just 5 goals and allowed 13 goals during this skid, all three losses have come on the road and luckily they return home tonight where they are 3-2-1. For the Avalanche they have scored 15 goals and allowed 25 goals during this five-game skid. The Avalanche have lost three games to one goal and while they can score the puck their defense and goaltending which was their strong suit up until now has struggled. This is desperation game for both teams the Avalanche are coming into their fourth road game in five games and need a win bad. I hate to do it but I see the Avalanche taking this game, they are a better offensive team and with the Oilers struggling I think the Avalanche can take this one. Go over and Avalanche.

New Jersey Devils(6-7-1) vs Winnipeg Jets(9-5-1)

This was not the start Devils fans wanted to see they are off to a subpar first 15 games and have a tough test tonight in Winnipeg. The Devils are coming off a back to back losses, vs Toronto and Ottawa, in their last five they have scored just 12 goals while allowing 21 goals. The Devils have struggled early on allowing the 4th most goals against per game (3.5) while only scoring 3.07 goals per game. The Jets are coming into this game off a 5-2 win vs Colorado and starting to get things going in the right direction. The Jets are 4th in the Central and clearly can do better. They are getting a good game vs a struggling New Jersey team that they will need to take advantage of. I am for sure going Jets, over here tonight.

Calgary Flames(10-6-1) vs San Jose Sharks(8-6-3)

Not an ideal start for San Jose through their first 17 games, no one expected them to be undefeated but we did expect them to be a little more consistent. They have been an on/off team, they come some nights and don’t other nights. They are on a two-game skid losing to Dallas 4-3 and St. Louis 4-0, the Sharks average a decent amount of goals with 3.12 goals per game while also allowing a league average of 3.04 goals per game. With a defense like the Sharks we did not expect them to be a 3+ goals against team. The Flames have enjoyed early success and sit among the top of the Western Conference they are coming off a big 1-0 win vs Los Angeles and now go up against a tough San Jose team. This game will be a three goals a piece game, probably a 4-3 finish, Mike Smith is usually always good for allowing 3 goals a game so the Flames will need to supply some offense. The Flames score around 3.24 goals per game while also allowing 3.04 goals per game. Tonight I see San Jose taking the win on home ice, San Jose, over.

Other games on tonight;

Arizona Coyotes vs Washington Capitals; Capitals

Ottawa vs Florida: Florida

Vancouver Canucks(9-6-1) vs Boston Bruins(8-4-2)

The Bruins are coming into this game for their second home game of the week as the Canucks stay on the road coming from Detroit. Vancouver dropped a tough game to Detroit in a shootout, least they got a point. Tonight I do not foresee the Canucks having the same luck as Tuesday. The Bruins are one of the more defensively sound teams in the league the Canucks have been successful due to their 3 goals per game, 8th ranked shooting percentage and almost20 percent power play. I see the Bruins playing a solid game here tonight only allowing one game to Dallas Tuesday and with a hot Jaroslav Halak in net the Bruins are the better team all around here and I think they take this one easy. This game looks like the Bruins have to cover a 1.5 goal spread, -240 and over/under of 5.5. My advice is either stay away from the game or go money line. Not much value in this game but the Bruins are going to win and the game will be close. Maybe the under.

Edmonton Oilers(8-6-1) vs Florida Panthers(3-5-3)

The Panthers are starting their three-game home stand after returning to the US from their Global Series games. The Panthers are not off to a great start they have struggled to be consistent, hold leads and get much offensive production going. While they do rank 3rd in shots on goal with 34.8 they also rank 27th in shooting percentage(8.6) on top of that they allow 3.55 goals per game and take near the most penalties in the game. Very inconsistent to start, as Edmonton is a capable of 3 goals a game, and has one of the more efficient power plays, it will be Florida staying out of the box and capitalizing on the chances they are given. I see this game being an under type of game, the Oilers are coming off a loss to Tampa Bay Tuesday as the Panthers have not played since last week. Low scoring game in my eyes, Panthers take the edge here though. Lines look like Panthers are covering a 1.5 goal spread (no), -125 and over/under of 6, going under for sure and Panthers.

Arizona Coyotes(7-6-0) vs Philadelphia Flyers(7-7-1)

Usually I would over look this game and not go with it but these two teams play out to be a good match up the Coyotes are hot right now although losing their last game to the Flyers except the roles have reversed and the Flyers are home this time. The Coyotes also have Antti Raanta on the IR so Darcy Kuemper gets the load of starts now until he is back. The Flyers goaltending is well the Flyers, this will be an under type of game I think. The Flyers scored 5 last game on this team and the over hit, turn around three days later and I can’t see either team scoring each 3 goals, I see this being a 3-2 game. I am also leaning towards the Yotes here…

New York Islanders(8-4-2) vs Tampa Bay Lightning(11-3-1)

The Islanders get a good test tonight in one of the best teams in the NHL as the Islanders have been hot from the start they play a team that can end their streak and bring them down to earth. Yet they can’t be overlooked, the Devils came in just a week ago to Tampa and scored five on them, which the Islanders can do the same. Tonight the Lightning are going with Andrei Vasilevskiy who has a 1.98 goals against and has allowed more than 3+ goals only two times this year. The Islanders Robin Lehner seems to be healthy and ready to be back for tonight. Which worries me a little although he was not sidelined for a while, first game back against a very good offensive team that scores around 3.6 goals per game and throws 34.6 shots on net per game. Lehner will have hands full, I am going with the Lightning here. Tough one but Lightning home ice seems to never be a bad choice. Lightning are to cover a 1.5 goal spread, -220 money line and over/under six. Probably go money line or spread.

San Jose Sharks(8-4-3) vs Dallas Stars(8-6-1)

For some reason I look at this game and I see overtime or past regulation. I think this will be a competitive back and forth game, there will be no one team dominating and the goaltender keeping them in net. The Stars are coming off a tough loss in Boston as the Sharks are coming off a big win vs Minnesota. Both are playing pretty good hockey right now and both could use some momentum with a win tonight. It will be a low scoring game, both Martin Jones and Ben Bishop draw in the net for tonight, plus both teams are pretty solid defensively only allowing 2.6 goals per game and around 30 shots or less on net per game, they defend well and both seem to score only 3 goals per game or less. I see the under in this game hitting, I think we see a 2-1, 3-2 overtime game.

Minnesota Wild(8-4-2) vs Los Angeles Kings(5-8-1)

The Kings are coming off a big win vs Anaheim Tuesday night as the Wild are coming off a loss to San Jose and stay on the road to play L.A. for another Western Conference battle. The Wild have been a very solid team this year, defending well, getting good goaltending and scoring around 3 + goals per game. The Kings on the other hand have trouble scoring and defending this year. This is a game the Wild need to win because they play Friday night as well and they drop all three on this West Cost road trip, not a good sign for the team. I see the Wild winning big here, over under is 5.5 and they are giving a 1.5 goal spread to start but -115 money line. Over and spread for tonight.

Other games on tonight:

Vegas vs Ottawa: Vegas needs a win, here’s their chance to get it.

Carolina vs Chicago: First game under new head coach for Chicago, on home ice. I like Chicago.

Buffalo vs Montreal: Tough, stay away.

Montreal Canadiens(8-4-2) vs New York Rangers(6-7-1)

The Canadiens are on a back to back for their New York area road trip. After coming back 3-1 to beat the Islanders 4-3 in a shootout Monday night. The Canadiens and their 2nd place record now gives this team a whole new set of confidence. It will for sure be tough to go back to back but the travel is not long for the Canadiens and the Rangers are a young, struggling team trying to find their identity right now. The Canadiens are most likely going with Carey Price tonight also as Antti Niemi started Monday night. As Henrik Lundqvist is set to start for the Rangers. These two teams have been pretty good over their last ten, the Canadiens are 6-3-1 in their last ten as the Rangers are 5-4-1 on a three-game win streak. I think this will be a close game, with the Canadiens playing back to back and Rangers not being a consistent offensive team. Set to be a low scoring game. The Rangers are 4-3 on home ice as the Canadiens are 3-1-2 on the road. Tonight, unpopular but going the Rangers.

Vegas Golden Knights(6-7-1) vs Toronto Maple Leafs(9-5-0)

The Golden Knights have not started out the way many expected nor coach Gerard Gallant would like to. The Golden Knights are 7th in the division right now, one game below .500 and beginning their four game road trip with Toronto. The Golden Knights are 2-5 on the road this season as well as 5-4-1 in their last ten. The Leafs are 6-4-0 in their last ten and have been struggling without Auston Matthews, there is no timetable for Matthews return right now but the Leafs seem to need him. The Leafs are 3-5-0 on home ice and with the Atlantic pretty tight right now and struggling over the last two weeks, this is going to be a game the Leafs must win. With both Marc Andre Fleury and Frederick Anderson in net, both starters will be on their best as they have all season. Anderson has a 2.28 goals against (GAA) and Fleury has a 2.51 GAA, we could see a low scoring game for sure. Choice here tonight, Leafs.

Dallas Stars(8-5-1) vs Columbus Blue Jackets(7-6-1)

The Stars have been playing pretty decent over their last ten and are now coming into tonight off a game Monday night in which they lost 2-1 in overtime. This is bizarre schedule for Dallas, they go from on the road in Boston to Columbus in less than twenty-four hours. That is a nightmare of traveling, and going to be tough to shake off the tired legs. The Blue Jackets are coming into this game on a two-game losing streak, 4-5-1 in their last ten and their last game was a mess. They allowed two short handed goals in their loss to the Kings but with two days rest they should be good to go. With projected Ben Bishop and Sergei Bobrovsky in net, it could go either way. Either a high scoring game or low scoring. Bishop has a 2.32 GAA while Bobrovsky has a 3.33 GAA, well see what Bob we get in net tonight. The Stars are going to be exhausted that is for sure, the Blue Jackets should take advantage of the Stars terrible schedule and jump on them early. Going with Columbus tonight.

New Jersey Devils(6-5-1) vs Ottawa Senators(5-6-3)

The Devils are going from Pittsburgh to Ottawa in a days notice and this will be an interesting game. After beating the Penguins 5-1 fueled by Brain Boyles hattrick hopefully Nico Hischier and Taylor Hall have something left in the tank to help the Devils stay in the win column. The Senators are now on a two-game losing streak and the locker room is probably in shambles after the video that was released yesterday about the team(more to come after this article). The Senators are on a two-game losing streak, 4-2-2 on home ice vs the Devils 1-5-0 record on the road. The Devils should be going with Corey Schneider and the Senators to go with Craig Anderson. The Devils are traveling a long ways, but I still think they take this game the Senators atmosphere is probably a mess right now. Devils with the under.

Carolina Hurricanes(6-6-2) vs St. Louis Blues(4-5-3)

The Hurricanes are coming into St. Louis on four-game losing streak, 3-6-1 in their last ten and 3-3-1 on the road. As the Blues are 3-4-1 on home ice, 4-4-2 in their last ten and having dropped their last game Saturday vs Minnesota. The Blues are doing all they can to stay in the mix of things in the Western Conference they are seeing some great production from Ryan O’Reilly and David Perron but again their goaltending has been shaky. Jake Allen has a 3.99 GAA and .879 save percentage. Their defense is at fault as well but they should be a team that plays all areas of the game well with the line up they have. I think the Hurricanes come in and make it competitive but the Blues get a much needed victory.

Minnesota Wild(8-3-2) vs San Jose Sharks(7-4-3)

The Wild have been an absolute wagon as of late, every time I go against them they prove me wrong. The Wild are coming into San Jose, 2nd in the Central and on a two-game winning streak. The Wild and Sharks are two high scoring teams they both average above 3 goals a game, above 30 shots on net, both power plays are at around 18.3 % to 21 percent, both allow less than 2.9 goals a game, less than 30 shots on net per game and penalty kills are neck and neck at around 85 percent. Two very similar teams, the Wild are seeing Devan Dubnyk at his best as well with a 2.07 GAA and .937 save percentage. This will be a low scoring, goalie battle. Both teams can score and defend and both goalies are very good. Tonight, I see Sharks getting a big win against a good team.

Other games on tonight:

Edmonton Oilers(8-4-1) vs Tampa Bay Lightning(10-3-1):

Going Lightning, Oilers back to back, Lightning are just a better team plus rested and on home ice. Lightning for sure.

Vancouver Canucks(9-6-0) vs Detroit Red Wings(4-8-2):

Canucks continue the hot streak.

Anaheim Ducks(6-6-3) vs Los Angeles Kings(4-8-1):

Worries me a ton both teams are lost right now and struggling. Going Kings though first game with interim head coach, going to play big while odds are against them.

Tampa Bay Lightning(8-3-1) vs Montreal Canadiens(7-3-2)

The Canadiens are off to a HOT start, and coming off a big 6-4 win vs the former Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals as the Lightning are coming off a bad loss on home ice vs Nashville. Lightning are in Montreal as the Canadiens are on home ice for the third straight game in a row. Tonight’s game will be an interesting one as the Canadiens continue to try and keep their hot play alive and the Lightning try and get out of the loss column and take one on the road. The Canadiens are 5-2 on home ice as the Lightning are 3-2 on the road. The Lightning will stay on the road for another game tomorrow vs Ottawa so taking both would be great but splitting it is ideal. I think the Lighting can take both these back to back road games. I’d go Lightning tonight they are favorites here on the road even with Montreal’s hot play which is a reason why this game seems to be a trap to take Montreal. Going Tampa Bay tonight.

Edmonton Oilers(7-4-1) vs Detroit Red Wings(4-7-2)

Hopefully the Oilers do not sh*t the bed like the Devils did Thursday night and lose to Detroit, because I am riding the hot hand Oilers tonight. Coming off a big home win vs Chicago and Mikko Koskinen first NHL win. Tonight the Oilers stay with the young goaltender as the Red Wings try and battle back after their slow start and get back on the right track. This game will be a close game in my eyes, early in the year there is a small margin between good and bad teams, the games are usually either blow outs or close games. This game is making to be a 3-2 type of game, I like Edmonton for the reason that well they are the hot team and coming into this game 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and taking 4 of their last five games. Oilers with the money line tonight.

Dallas Stars(7-5-0) vs Washington Capitals(5-4-2)

Capitals a little Stanley Cup hung right now? In their last 10 games they are 4-4-2 the positive sign though is that they can always score goals. Not sure what the poor play from Washington is right now but is a perfect time to shake it off and the perfect game to do it. Against a competitive, skilled Dallas team that can bury you if you make stupid mistakes. The Stars are coming into Washington on a two-game win streak and fourth road game in a row, they beat the Canadiens and Toronto on the road so their confidence is high. I think this is a game that Washington ratchets things up and takes a big win on home ice. Capitals, over tonight.

Minnesota Wild(7-3-2) vs St. Louis Blues(4-4-3)

The Blues are starting to get the pieces together now and getting moving in the right direction. The Wild though are a well balanced team from forward to defense to goalie. Their last game coming Tuesday vs Edmonton on the road in which they won, they have had now three days to travel. I like the added rest and legs to Minnesota tonight, on the road a good game to go after the road team. St. Louis Ryan O’Reilly continues to impress but the worry for St. Louis and this game is their goaltending consistency, when Jake Allen is on he is solid but I like Minnesota tonight with the money line.

Carolina Hurricanes(6-5-2) vs Vegas Golden Knights(5-7-2)

Seems like the Vegas fire has run out this year? The Golden Knights as you can tell are not off to a good start, what used to be sure games for them at home are not anymore. They are 2-4 at home this season and while they started off the season with five road games, losing 3 of 5 makes it difficult for a team to get much going. After losing to Nashville and St. Louis on the road the Golden Knights come back to home ice with a chance to get some confidence going as they prepare for another four game road trip after this game. The Hurricanes are 3-4 on the road and their real bright spot has been Finland forward Sebastian Aho, seems like every game he is setting a record. Aho has 17 points in 13 games. The Golden Knights keep him off the scoresheet they are good to go. Staying with Vegas here as they need a win desperately before this road trip. Vegas money line.

Columbus Blue Jackets(7-5-0) vs Los Angeles Kings(3-8-2)

The Kings have been off to a terrible start, struggling to score, struggling to get any offense going and now Jonathan Quick needs surgery and Petr Budaj and Jack Campbell will have to pick up the slack. A rough start for L.A. this season and it won’t look better after they lose to Columbus tonight at home. Columbus is coming off a big road win vs San Jose and stay in the California area for another road tilt. I think this is a good give me type of game. The Kings will compete for sure but I see the Blue Jackets coming out on top and taking this game at the end. Columbus money line.

Other games on tonight…. (don’t bother with games highlighted)

Devils(5-4-1) vs Islanders(7-4-1): Islanders

Leafs(8-5-0) vs Penguins(6-2-3): Don’t bother. Both coming off loses and struggling a bit right now. Not a good game to go after.

Bruins(7-3-2) vs Predators(10-3-0): Don’t bother Predators are hot don’t even bet against them and betting with them provides little value.

Blackhawks(6-5-3) vs Flames(8-5-1): Both inconsistent and don’t like this game.

Flyers(6-7-0) vs Sharks(6-4-3): Sharks should win but anything can happen with the Flyers.

Dallas Stars(6-5-0) vs Toronto Maple Leafs(8-4-0)

The Leafs are without Auston Matthews, the Stars are starting their back up goalie, Anton Khudobin, who honestly many fans forgot was a goalie in the league still. Frederick Anderson seems to be the likely starter for tonight. Looking at the Stars last few games they are 3-1 in their last four games scoring 15 goals allowing 9 goals. The Stars may be without Alexander Radulov tonight as well although he returned vs Montreal Radulov is not expected to play tonight. The Leafs are 2-2 in their last four games scoring 9 goals and allowing 11 goals as well. The spread in this game is Leafs are favored right now as the Stars are given 1.5 to start so essentially going with the Stars to cover a 2 goal spread is not unheard of. The over/under is 6 goals which is do able as well. Tough to choose between the two, I’d say go Leafs money line for a safe choice or even Stars to cover the spread.

Pittsburgh Penguins(6-2-2) vs New York Islanders(6-4-1)

The Penguins have to figure out a goalie situation right now because Matt Murray looks terrible he got pulled last game vs the Islanders this week. This will be their second time meeting in four days and the Islanders absolutely blew the Penguins out of the building winning 6-3 Tuesday night. Murray got pulled after allowing 3 goals and with the Islanders on a three game winning streak scoring 14 goals in their last three games whoever is in net for Pittsburgh may get shelled again. The Islanders are without Robin Lehner for a short period of time as he is dealing with an injury so Tomas Greiss picks up the majority of starts and draws into the line up tonight. Greiss is 2-2 this year with a 2.26 GAA and .933 save percentage. The Islanders and Penguins offenses have been exceptional to start the year, an over of 6.5 hit last game and tonight it can happen again. The Islanders are not favored this game even at home, they are given 1.5 goals to start the game. Tonight with the Penguins getting shelled last game on Tuesday vs NYI I’d go Pittsburgh tonight.

Buffalo Sabres(6-4-2) vs Ottawa Senators(4-5-2)

The Senators got run out of Arizona with their 5-1 loss Tuesday night and the Sabres blew a lead Tuesday to Calgary losing in overtime. The Sabres have been a different team to start the season starting off on the right foot and continuing to play like a potential contender. The Senators are where we expect them to be, especially dealing with the injuries they have this season. The goalies seem to be Carter Hutton (4-4-1, 2.94 GAA, .910 SV %) vs Craig Anderson (4-3-2, 3.48 GAA, .909 SV %) Hutton has seemed to be holding his own in Buffalo and will only improve from here on out. Anderson is just getting worse as the years go on and the Senators blue line continues to thin the veteran goalie cannot be expected to carry this team. The Senators offense produces around 3 goals a game while the Sabres are performing at a rate of 2.58 goals a game expect the Senators allow 4 goals a game and Sabres allow 2.92 goals a game. With the Senators in Ottawa and Sabres on the road the Sens are given 1.5 goals to start the game and the over/under is six goals. Stay away from the over and go Sabres money line.

Nashville Predators(9-3-0) vs Tampa Bay Lightning(8-2-1)

A battle of the two best teams in the NHL and possible Stanley Cup preview could be underway. The Predators have been on par with how everyone expects them to be, they have won 5 of their last 7 games and seem to be the team to beat in the West right now. They are expecting Pekka Rinne back after his injury it is not confirmed if he is playing but it is saying he is expected to play. Rinne first game back, on the road vs Tampa Bay. I don’t know, I’d say that is a good reason to go Tampa Bay here tonight. With Victor Hedman out and Ondrej Palat day to day the Lightning are dealing with some injuries but seem to be put together with a solid top six of Kucherov, Stamkos, Point, Johnson, Gourde and Miller. With the Predators under dogs here, I’d go Predators with the spread or the Lightning money line and stay away from the over/under. No way this game is a 3 goal differential, the Lightning won’t win 4-1 or 5-2, no way going to be a one goal game.

Colorado Avalanche(7-3-2) vs Calgary Flames(7-5-1)

The Avalanche have been rolling, they have some of their best players clicking on all cylinders right now. Getting unreal production from Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog, Nate McKinnon and Semyonov Varlamov in net the Avalanche look to be a team on a mission. They score around 3.42 goals a game compared to Flames 3.15. Avalanche allow the league lowest 2.17 goals a game while Flames allow one of the leagues higher 3.15 goals a game. Mike Smith vs Varlamov tonight, Smith has been very inconsistent but at home the Flames can pull this one out especially after a big come from behind overtime winner vs Buffalo Tuesday. Flames are favorites here having to cover a two-goal spread, therefore the Avalanche given two goals to start the game seems like a no brainer. Definitely not the over of six and go Avalanche spread.

Chicago Blackhawks(6-4-3) vs Edmonton Oilers(6-4-1)

Very interesting game as the Blackhawks are coming back to back off a bad loss to Vancouver staying on the road vs Edmonton who is coming off a win vs Nashville Sunday night and their most recent loss to Minnesota Tuesday night. The Oilers have been a solid team to start, competitive at least and not a shoe-in for a loss every night it seems. The Blackhawks are off to a better start as well, and at least Brandon Saad and Jonathan Toews are alive. Tonight both back ups draw into net tonight with Mikko Koskinen in Edmonton with a 1-0 record, 3.05 GAA and .889 save percentage, and Cam Ward in net for Chicago (expected) a 3-1-3 record, 3.92 goals against and .889 save percentage. Chicago averages 3.3 goals a game to Edmonton’s 2.91 goals a game, Chicago allows near league high 3.62 goals a game vs Edmonton’s middle of the pack 3.09 goals a game. Very similar teams, they have 2-3 players who do their heavy lifting and that’s it. With Chicago the underdogs here I like it a lot they are coming back to back now, sure but they are a veteran team not their first time and they are not going to drop now four in a row with a loss to Edmonton. Edmonton’s back up in net I’m going Chicago here with the spread or money line honestly.

Other games worth looking at tonight

Washington Capitals (5-3-2) vs Montreal Canadiens (6-3-2)

Montreal are the underdogs at home here tonight given 1.5 to start and +105 not a big underdog and the Capitals are -125 so it is essentially even but with Montreal losing at home to Dallas it would be interesting to see them drop two games in a row at home.

Vegas Golden Knights(5-6-1) vs St. Louis Blues(3-4-3)

The Golden Knights are given 1.5 goals to start this game and the underdogs, sure both teams have not been great to start the year. But, both very competitive teams looking to get some confidence and this could be a major turn in the right direction for Vegas, I seem to like the under dogs tonight but Vegas to cover a 2 goal spread is appealing to me to say the least. Both Jake Allen and Marc Andre Fleury are to draw in the net tonight. Vegas coming off a 4-1 loss and St. Louis a 7-3 win going to be a good game to gamble on.

Not worth the time games

Flyers vs Kings: Flyers are given 1.5 goals to start only interesting thing here, other than that, too risky but way to inconsistent. But Quick is out for Kings, Flyers have no goaltending either though.

Rangers vs Ducks: To risky both teams are struggling.

Devils vs Red Wings: Devils should win, key word, SHOULD!

Blue Jackets vs Sharks: Both too unpredictable right now and inconsistent.

For a slow Monday consisting of two games, the NHL comes back with 11 games on Tuesday and a lot of good games. We are now 11 games into the season therefore it is still early which means some back ups will be in net, and there will be upsets for sure. Out of the 11 games on for Tuesday we are going to choose the six best picks.

Islanders(5-4-1) vs Pittsburgh(6-1-2)

The Islanders are coming off two big wins, a 6-1 win over Philadelphia and 2-1 win over Carolina to stay in the division and play the best. The Penguins, as always a powerhouse of the Metropolitan division and NHL. With an unbelievable array of forward talent and a decent goaltender the Penguins manage to find ways to win games. The Islanders have bounced back and forth between Robin Lehner and Tomas Griess. It seems Lehner will be in net for Tuesday’s matchup, Lehner is 3-2-1 with a 2.39 GAA, .929 save percentage and 1 shutout. As for the Penguins another mediocre start for Matt Murray, since Murray had those Stanley cup run performances he has not been the same. Murray is 4-1 with a 3.37 GAA, .910 save percentage and 1 shutout. On home ice for Pittsburgh, I’d have to say Pittsburgh will take this one. We can expect a 4-3 type of game, the Penguins can score goals and the only way the Islanders have a chance is if they keep up with that Pittsburgh offense.

Redwings(2-7-2) vs Blue Jackets(6-4-0)

The Red Wings have definitely been off to a rocky start this year winning only two games through their 11 games. They picked up a big win vs Dallas Sunday night and now travel to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets have not been a great team this year so this is not an “easy” pick but it is a safe one. Sergei Bobrovsky is 2-4-0 with a 3.87 GAA and .872 save percentage as we can tell there has been some trouble for Bob this season. The Blue Jackets are 10th in the league for goals against and goals for, therefore they can score but defending has been an issue. The Red Wings only score around 2.2 goals a game while Columbus can easily net 4 a game. I’d probably go Columbus with the spread to be honest.

Devils(5-2-1) vs Lightning(7-2-1)

The last time these two met was in the playoffs last year when the Lightning knocked out the Devils in six games to advance on. The Devils have been the same team from last year, a gritty, in your face, won’t quit type of team. Even without Corey Schneider the Devils back up and now starter Keith Kinkaid has looked great in net. Kinkaid is 5-2-1 with a 2.12 GAA, .925 save percentage and 2 shutouts. The Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy is 5-1-1 with a 1.83 GAA and .940 save percentage. Seems like it will be a goalie battle for sure. The Lightning’s offense averages around 3.20 goals a game with 32 goals for compared to the Devils 3.50 goals a game and 28 goals on the year. Two good offenses right now that are clicking but with two good goaltenders in net, and a rival brewing between these two, it will be a low scoring game. Devils at the end of the night in overtime.

Wild(6-2-2) vs Oilers(6-3-1)

The Oilers and Wild have similar records and pretty similar teams. The only edge the Wild have is that they have a little more offensive depth. The Oilers though have been playing a lot better than what they started last season like. They are coming off a big overtime win over Chicago and having won 4 of their last 6 games. The Wild are going to be going back to back on the road, therefore this will be a tough one for Minnesota. They are currently on a five-game win streak heading into Monday nights game. With Edmonton’s 29 goals for on the year and averaging 3 goals a game vs Minnesota’s 2.9 goals a game and 29 goals on the year. These two rank up nicely but with the Wild’s back up in most likely and Cam Talbot and a rested Edmonton team I am going Oilers.

Flyers(4-7-0) vs Ducks(5-5-2)

The Flyers have been struggling greatly recently they have lost their last three games and in those three loses they have scored a combined 2 goals while allowing 13 goals. The Flyers seem to be doing their usual Flyers play, come out extremely slow and make every Philly fan hate them and say they suck then come around All-Star break time they pick it up and go on a win streak. I would not be worried for the Flyers too much right now but if you are to look at this game and choose anyone it would have to be Anaheim on home ice. The Ducks like the Flyers are on a major skid at the moment, losing their last five games the Ducks need a slump buster game and this is the chance to do it for the team. Both struggling teams that need some confidence going, going with the Ducks and the over for this game.

Senators(4-4-2) vs Coyotes(5-5-0)

For some reason on paper this game seems like it is going to be a brutal game to watch but two young teams battling for some identity to their team. This game will be a lot better than most fans think. The Coyotes offense has averages 2.5 goals a game with 25 goals for while allowing 20 goals against and an average of 2 goals against. They do not score a lot but they defend extremely well. The Senators offense averages 3.50 goals for and 3.90 goals against, the opposite of Arizona score but can’t defend well. Two teams with almost identical records and a similar make up to their line up. This will be a 3-2 game at best I would have to say and I am favoring Coyotes here.

Other NHL Games Oct.30th

Calgary vs Buffalo: Buffalo

Boston vs Carolina: Boston

Vegas vs Nashville: Nashville

Dallas vs Montreal: Dallas

Rangers vs Sharks: Sharks
