NHL Picks For NHL Wednesday Rivalry Night

Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Red Wings: NBCSN 7:30PM

The Blackhawks have won now 12 of their last 14 games, are 8-2-0 in their last ten coming off an 8-7 win vs Ottawa and 11-15-3 on the road this season. As the Red Wings are playing .500 style hockey in yet another rebuild year. The Red Wings are 5-4-1 in their last ten coming off a lose to Philadelphia Sunday night and 12-14-4 at home this season. The Blackhawks recent success has been off the backs of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Alex Debrincat the trio continue to produce and make this Blackhawks team a successful team. Kane heads into Detroit on a 18-game point streak and 40 points in those 18 games. Toews has 10 goals and 8 assists in the last 11 games, Debrincat has 8 goals, 13 assists in the last 11 games, therefore we can assume if the Red Wings do not slow these three guys down they are not winning. The Red Wings are going with Jimmy Howard (likely), Howard is 2-3 in his last five starts with 12 goals against. The Blackhawks goalie seems to be Cam Ward who was brought into the mess vs Ottawa the other night and will look to quickly rebound from that massacre. The last time these two played on February 10th the Blackhawks won 5-2, this is the last time these two will play and I am going with Chicago here.

Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche:

The Jets have dropped their last two games and are 5-3-2 in their last ten games, they have a 15-12 record on the road this season. With yet another Blues win vs Toronto Tuesday night the Jets are only seven points ahead of the Blues. The Avalanche are coming off a big win vs the Golden Knights Monday night. The Av’s though are 2-5-3 in their last ten and 11-12-5 at home this season. The Jets and Av’s goalies are unconfirmed right now but I would assume we see Connor Hellebuyck and Semyon Varlamov in net for both teams. The players to keep an eye on tonight are the obvious ones for Colorado MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog as for Winnipeg it is Brandon Tanev who is coming off back to back games with a goal and Patrik Laine who is in a drought right now. These two have played three times already, the Jets have won 2 of the three. The Jets two wins were by a score of 5-2 and 7-4 as the Avalanche took the last game in Winnipeg not too long ago (Feb. 14) 4-1. Tonight I except the Jets to get back in the win column and win 4-2 tonight.

New York Islanders vs Calgary Flames:

The Islanders will have a great test in front of them tonight as they will put their Metropolitan division leading play to test vs one of the best Western Conference teams. The Islanders have yet to play the Flames this season therefore this will make for a fun match up as both teams are possession heavy teams with very skilled forwards and mobile defenseman. The Islanders goaltending (Lehner or Greiss TBD) will have the edge over Rittich or Smith tonight. If the Islanders can rally around their goaltending they can pick up a big road win here. The Flames are on a two-game win streak but 5-3-2 in their last ten as the Islanders are also on two-game win streak but 6-2-2 in their last ten. The Islanders road record is 17-10-2 as the Flames have a 18-5-5 home record this season. By the looks of it you can tell the Flames are not used to losing at home. The Islanders and Flames take relatively very few penalties therefore we can assume to not see a lot of special teams which will come down to 5 on 5 play a lot. I like the Flames in their own barn tonight.

Boston Bruins vs Vegas Golden Knights: NBCSN, 10:00PM

The Bruins are coming off a big road win in overtime vs the Sharks as the Golden Knights are coming off a bad loss to Colorado. The Bruins are on a six-game win streak, 8-0-2 in their last ten games as the Golden Knights are 3-7-0 in their last ten games. The Golden Knights at home are always tough though as they have a 17-9-3 record this season but the Bruins 14-10-5 road record will look to prevail. If we do see a lot of special teams this game the Bruins will have the advantage as their 2nd ranked power play (26.9) will be put to the test vs the 5th best penalty kill in the league (83.2), but the Golden Knights power play is clicking at 17.6 percent (20th) and Bruins penalty kill is ranked 16th (80.3). Tonight Jaroslav Halak draws in net for Boston who is 15-9-4 on the year with a 2.35 GAA but 2-1-2 with 9 goals against in his last five starts and coming off a shutout vs the Ducks. The Bruins took the first match up vs Vegas this season 4-1 but this time they are in Vegas. Marc Andre Fleury should draw in net for Vegas. Fleury is 29-18-4, a 2.61 GAA but 2-3 in his last five starts coming off three straight losses in which he allowed 4+ in those three games. The Bruins have the upper hand, coming off a big road win, gaining momentum heading into the rough part of the schedule and clicking on all cylinders. I am going Boston on the road.

Recap of picks:

  • Blackhawks
  • Jets
  • Flames
  • Bruins

Live In The Stands Gambling Corner For Tuesday Night NHL Action

Chicago Blackhawks vs Boston Bruins

The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to continue their streak as they head to Boston. The Hawks are on a 7-game win streak and 7-2-1 in their last ten games and looking to continue their push for the playoffs. As the Bruins look to continue their own win streak although not as large, they have won their last two games are 5-2-3 in their last ten games and have a 20-7-3 record at home this season. The Bruins will be without David Pastrnak tonight due to thumb surgery, therefore that either bumps Jake DeBrusk up or Danton Heinen. Either way the absence of Pastrnak will be felt for the Bruins. The Bruins go with Tuukka Rask tonight who has won four of his five starts allowing 10 goals in those starts. Colin Delia is going tonight for the Hawks the recently 3-year, $1 million dollar a year goaltender looks to continue his great play. Delia is 3-1-1 in his last five starts but has won his last three starts. Delia has allowed 18 goals in five starts though (3.6 goals per game). Tonight is a big one for Chicago, Delia has been giving the Blackhawks what they need, not excellent but solid. Tuukka clearly out plays him, but with Pasta out and the Blackhawks rolling this could go either way. Going unpopular like always and taking Blackhawks.

New York Islanders vs Buffalo Sabres

The Islanders look to continue their tear coming off a win vs the Wild, they get a days rest and head to Buffalo vs a playoff hungry Sabres team. With the way the Sabres have been playing defensively and the amount of shots they allow per game this could be a lopsided game with the way the Islanders offense has been playing. The Sabres are going with Linus Ullmark who is 2-2-1 in his last five starts allowing 17 goals in that span. The Islanders go with Robin Lehner who will look to pick up his 4th win in his last six starts. In his last five games though he is 3-1-1 allowing 9 goals in that span. The Sabres struggle defensively therefore they are going to need to either (A) out perform and possess the Islanders defensively, (B) take away second chances for the Islanders or (C) out-score the Islanders. All three choices are going to be tough with the way the Islanders posses the puck offensively and have been playing excellent on both sides of the puck. Therefore, I am going Islanders tonight.

Washington Capitals vs Columbus Blue Jackets

The Capitals go back to back here, coming off a 6-4 win vs the Kings Monday night it will be a quick turn around to Columbus now. The Capitals did save Braden Holtby for the Blue Jackets tonight which makes me more confident. The Blue Jackets give Bobrovsky the nod as well. Holtby is 2-2-1 in his last five starts allowing 16 goals in that span. While Bobrovsky is 3-2-0 winning his last three starts allowing 17 goals in that span. The Capitals are 4-4-2 in their last ten and the Blue Jackets are 5-5-0, the two are separated by four points. The Blue Jackets could use these two points and it helps they are at home. I like the Blue Jackets at home here tonight, Capitals coming off a back to back game, on the road. Columbus is fresh and needing a win. Also the last time these two played was exactly a month ago and the Blue Jackets won 2-1. Except a 3-2 game here in Columbus’s favor.

Calgary Flames vs Tampa Bay Lightning

The two best teams in the NHL go at it for the final time this season. These two have played each other just one time, the Lightning ended up winning in a shootout 5-4. The Lightning were on the road for the first game and are home for this one vs Calgary now. The Flames are on a two-game losing streak but still 6-2-2 in their last ten with a 17-10-1 record on the road. As the Lightning are 6-2-2 in their last ten, on a two-game win streak and 21-5-2 at home. The Lightning go with their obvious number one and Vezina candidate, Andrei Vasilevskiy. Vasilevskiy is 2-1-2 in his last five games, allowing 11 goals in that span. As the Flames go with their number one David Rittich. Rittich is 3-0-2 in his last five starts coming off an over time loss to Vancouver. Rittich has lost just four games all year and currently posts a 20-4-5 record. The Lightning have been the best team in the NHL since day one and they are currently showing why they are number one and cup favorites. They are 4-0-2 in their last six, having allowed two or fewer goals in four of six games. The Flames were riding a 8-0-1 streak just before their last four games in which they have lost two of their last four and now are one point behind the Sharks for first place in the Pacific division. This is going to be a great game, probably a 3-2 game in my opinion. I like the Flames here but it is tough to go against Tampa at home. I am going unpopular again and going Flames. Except a big one from Rittich.

New Jersey Devils vs St. Louis Blues

The Devils are coming off a win vs the Hurricanes their third win in their last ten games. The Devils are 3-6-1 in their last ten, 7-17-3 on the road. These two have yet to meet this season and know relatively nothing about each other. Which could be beneficial for the Devils. The Blues though are looking to extend their six-game win streak to seven games and Jordan Binnington looks to continue his tremendous play and build off his first star of the week honor. Binnington is 9-1-1 on the year with a 1.72 GAA, he is 5-0-0 in his last five starts allowing just seven goals in those 5 games. The Devils go with Keith Kinkaid who is having a mediocre season due to the circumstances he has faced. In his last five he is 2-3-0 allowing 18 goals in that span. The Blues are 7-2-1 in their last ten games and 10-2-1 in their last 13 games. The Blues have held opponents to two or fewer goals in 10 of the last 13 games. The Blues have everything going for them right now and with the playoff talk back in business and the wild card spot in place right now for St. Louis I cannot see them dropping this game to the Devils at home. Going Blues for sure.

Recap of picks:

  • Blackhawks
  • Islanders
  • Columbus
  • Flames
  • Blues

FREE NHL Picks; December 29, 2018

Minnesota Wild vs Winnipeg Jets

The Jets are atop the Central division while the Wild are slowly falling out of any playoff chance right now. The Jets are 7-3-0 in their last ten and 13-5-0 on home ice, they are coming off a loss to Calgary on home ice. While the Wild are on a five-game losing streak, 3-6-1 in their last ten and 7-10-0 on the road. It has been a tough month and some for the Wild, they went from contenders to pretenders real quick. The Jets are going to handle this game with ease I say, with the Wild banged up a bit on the back end and possibly the Jets back up net minder going tonight, the Jets may score 4+ on the Wild. The Jets average around 3.46 goals to the Wild’s 2.92 goals and the Wild allow 2.86 goals to the Jets 2.81 goals per game. Minnesota’s second ranked penalty kill in the league will have their hands full vs the NHL’s third best power play in the league. I see this game being a 4-2 finish. The over/under is six which can hit but I never usually go o/u for NHL play, the Wild are +1.5 and +165 while the Jets are -1.5 and -165. I would go Jets -1.5 probably.

San Jose Sharks vs Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton is on a current four-game skid while the Sharks are finally starting to come together and be the team we imagined them to be. The Sharks are 2nd in the Pacific as the Oilers are sixth. The Oilers could use a big win here tonight on home ice vs a good Western Conference team. The Oilers are 10-7-1 on home ice and 5-4-1 in their last ten while the Sharks are 8-8-3 on the road and 6-2-2 in their last ten. If both starters go tonight for both teams (Jones vs Koskinen) we will see a relatively low scoring game. Both teams defend fairly well, the Sharks allow 2.92 goals per game vs the Oilers 3.11 goals per game. But the Sharks out score the Oilers for sure with a 3.28 goal per game average vs the Oilers 2.78 goals per game. On a four-game skid the first major losing streak under Ken Hitchcock, the Oilers battling for a playoff spot, on home ice, I think you know where I am going with this. I am feeling Oilers money line tonight. Oilers are +100 and +1.5 as the Sharks are -120 and -1.5, for sure going Oilers money line.

Boston Bruins vs Buffalo Sabres

Since the Sabres win streak they have been extremely sub par, they ae 4-4-2 in their last ten games and coming off a loss to the Blues in St. Louis they now head home where they have had most of their success this season. The Sabres are 12-4-2 at home this season, they average 2.87 goals per game and allow 2.84 goals per game on the year. They have the 5th best penalty kill in the league but also the 18th ranked power play, therefore special teams will be a factor in tonight’s game. Boston is also coming off a loss to New Jersey at TD Garden, the Bruins 6-4-0 in their last ten and currently 5th in the Atlantic and three points behind the Sabres for a top-three spot. The Bruins score 2.79 goals per game but allow 2.66 goals per game. They are the opposite of the Sabres with a 5th ranked power play and 19th ranked penalty kill. The Bruins are coming into this game off a tough loss on home ice and could use these two points to gain some ground on the Sabres right now. The Sabres on the other hand are in the same boat, they have Montreal and Boston creeping up behind them and after a bad loss to St. Louis they need to bounce back. The line is favored in the Sabres hands at +1.5 (-265) and +105 money line, as the Bruins are -1.5 and -125 the over/under of 5.5 looks like a solid option too but with very little offense from these two I am not sure. I would say go Bruins straight up to be honest.

New York Islanders vs Toronto Maple Leafs

This will be the first time the Islanders play the Leafs since John Tavares left the Islanders over the summer. The Leafs are coming into this one on a back to back as too are the Islanders. The Leafs played Columbus in Columbus and now have to head back to Toronto to get ready for a physical game vs the Islanders. The Islanders head coach Barry Trotz said he wants his players to take Tavares departure personally so we can probably see a physical game tonight. The Leafs are one of the best in the league and their current five-game win streak, 6-2-2 record in their last ten and 12-5-1 record at home says so as well. The Islanders are coming off a big come from behind win vs Ottawa Friday night, the Islanders are 6-3-1 in their last ten and 10-8-1 on the road. The Islanders score 2.92 goals per game vs the Leafs 3.79 goals per game. The Islanders allow 2.72 goals per game vs the Leafs 2.76 goals per game. The only way the Islanders have a chance in this game is if they score 5 plus goals and keep up with the Leafs offense. I don’t see the Islanders winning this one, going Leafs.

Detroit Red Wings vs Dallas Stars

This game screams slam the Stars. After the ownership came out and ripped apart Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn I think we can expect a great game from the two, plus on home ice in Dallas the Stars need to win this game. The Stars are 11-5-0 on home ice, 4-6-0 in their last ten as the Red Wings are 7-9-3 on the road, 2-6-2 in their last ten and on a three-game skid. The Stars are currently in a playoff spot and battling for a top three-spot in the Central division. They can easily be a playoff team if they just stay consistent and Seguin and Benn pick it up. The Stars score 2.66 goals per game the Red Wings score 2.79 goals per game, the Stars allow 2.68 goals per game the Red Wings allow 3.26 goals per game. This game with the line it has right now really does favor the Stars, the Stars are -1.5 (+125) and -225 as the Red Wings are +195 and +1.5, I know I am 100% going the Stars to cover the spread. After the outburst from the Stars ownership Seguin and Benn are aware of it and will come out flying this game. Going Stars puck spread.

Other games on tonight:

Washington vs Ottawa: Capitals. (to cover 1.5 as well)

Montreal vs Tampa Bay: Tampa Bay (no line right now)

Philadelphia vs Florida: Panthers (no line right now)

Pittsburgh vs St. Louis: Penguins (wouldn’t gamble on this one, no reward)

Rangers vs Predators: Predators (stay away, bad lines)

Chicago vs Colorado: Colorado (stay away)

Arizona vs Anaheim: Anaheim (no lines right now)

Vancouver vs Calgary: Flames (not worth the headache though)

Parlay for tonight:

Jets (-1.5), Stars (-1.5), Oilers +100 or Jets (-1.5), Capitals (-1.5), Stars (-1.5)

NHL Picks: December 11th 2018

Arizona Coyotes vs Boston Bruins

You are probably thinking, oh Bruins easy one for sure. Well, it won’t be that easy for Boston. Sure they have a better team but the Bruins are hurt, and I know they beat Toronto but the Bruins always beat Toronto. The Coyotes have been a tough team to play against this year and I would not be surprised one bit if they took this game. The Coyotes are 4-5-1 coming into tonight on a two-game skid and 7-5-1 on the road. While the Coyotes score just 2.57 goals for, the Bruins only score 2.67 goals for per game. The Bruins are coming into tonight on a two-game win streak, 5-4-1 in their last ten and 10-3-0 at home. The Bruins and Coyotes are a very similar team, they both struggle to score but defend well as the Bruins allow the least goals per game (2.53)  in the league and the Coyotes are not far behind being ranked 4th (2.71). With Adin Hill starting out hot and “struggling” a bit his last two starts we will see another test for the young goaltender. The thing that makes me want to take Arizona here is that they are due for an upset win and the Bruins may take their opponent a little lightly. I like the puck spread for Arizona tonight plus +1.5, but they are also +155 as the Bruins are -185, the over/under is something I could see hitting. I’d be surprised to see either team score three plus. Arizona puck spread tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Carolina Hurricanes

Even though Toronto is on the road they are still the favorites go figure as the Hurricanes are 7-4-3 at home and 5-4-1 in their last ten but the Leafs are 11-4-0 on the road and 6-3-1 in their last ten. Clear favorites and there is probably not much need to go deeper into this conversation. The Hurricanes starter situation is a huge question mark right now. Sure they may keep it close but the Leafs will come out with a win tonight. The Leafs are -135 and -1.5, and the Hurricanes are +115, honestly not as big as a spread as I imagined, I’d still go Leafs here tonight.

Buffalo Sabres vs Los Angeles Kings

What a turn of events for Buffalo go from the hottest team in the NHL to the worst team so quickly. The Sabres are on a five-game skid against one of the worst teams in the NHL and the Sabres are home, I am expecting a 5-2 win from Buffalo. They do not come out on top in this game and lose six straight it will be feel like the world is on the Sabres shoulders. They need to get over this hump and it comes at a perfect time vs the Kings. The Sabres are 5-3-2 in their last ten and 9-3-2 at home as the Kings are 4-6-0 in their last ten and 4-9-0 on the road. The Kings are going with Cal Petersen tonight as the Sabres go Carter Hutton. The Sabres are 19th in goals for (2.93) and15th in goals against (2.93) the Kings score the least amount of goals in the league (2.16) and allow a league average of 3.03 against per game. The enticing line here tonight is the puck spread, the Sabres are -1.5 at +145 instead of going money line where the Sabres are -190 I would rather bank on the Sabres winning by two goals and winning like I said 4-1, 3-0, 5-1 either or really are all possibilities. Going Sabres puck spread.

Florida Panthers vs St. Louis Blues

Just a disgusting game to gamble on tonight, almost makes me sick writing this game. The Blues are struggling and it seems they will not be getting any better any time soon especially after Todd Bortuzzo and Zach Sanford are fighting each other in practice. The Panthers while they are coming off a shootout lose they scored five goals and are capable of blowing the Blues out of the water. The only concern is that Vladimir Tarasenko came out and apologized to the fans about playing so poorly at home, so the Blues may actually come out buzzing. The Blues are 3-6-1 in their last ten and 6-8-2 at home, the Panthers are 3-4-3 in their last ten and 5-6-2 on the road. With the Panthers 3.29 goals per game and Blues 2.79 goals per game vs the Panthers 3.5 goals against and Blues 3.32 goals against, with Jake Allen in net you really never know which way this could go. It can be a 4-0 game or 2-1 game. I see the Panthers coming out on top so go money line.

Edmonton Oilers vs Colorado Avalanche

This is probably game of the night. Since the addition of Ken Hitchcock the Oilers have been a wagon, 7-2-1 under Hitchcock and completely turning around their season. With the emergence of Mikko Koskinen the Oilers have propelled into the discussion for a wild card spot in the Pacific division. The Oilers are coming off a huge win vs Calgary in the battle of Alberta and they are 7-2-1 in their last ten, 7-8-1 on the road as the Avalanche are 7-2-1 in their last ten and 6-2-3 at home. This has the making to be a low scoring game I feel like. It will be tight defensively and we will not see either team take too many chances early on. Although the Avalanche score 3.6 goals per game the Oilers allow 2.9 goals per game. The Oilers though only score 2.7 goals per game and Colorado allows 2.9 goals per game, this could be a game where the under hits, but over/under in the NHL is never something to go after. Tonight the Oilers are +1.5 and +125 as the Avalanche are -1.5 and -145, the puck spread for Edmonton may be a good choice despite the small pay out but I really think the Avs stop the Edmonton hot streak early in its tracks and play well at home. Avalanche for the winner.

Other games on tonight:

Detroit vs Washington: Washington

Ottawa vs Nashville: Nashville

Chicago vs Winnipeg: Winnipeg

Vancouver vs Columbus: Columbus

Montreal vs Minnesota: Minnesota

Bet I took tonight was: Arizona +1.5, Winnipeg -1.5 and Buffalo -1.5

NHL Picks Of The Night; November 19th

Blue Jackets(12-6-2) vs Maple Leafs(14-6-0)

The Blue Jackets are coming off a great week of play that has put in a great spot heading into this week. They have won three straight, are 6-2-2 in their last ten and coming into Toronto vs a team that just swept the West Coast and are also on a three game win streak. The Maple Leafs have been without Auston Matthews but still the Leafs are doing just fine. The Blue Jackets have seen a bright sign in the play of Cam Atkinson lately. This will be a very interesting game the Jackets can put up four plus and same for Toronto. The Maple Leafs average 3.5 goals per game vs Columbus’s 3.45 but the Leafs allow just 2.55 goals against vs Columbus’s 3.1. This is probably going to be a 3-2, 2-1 game. Have to stick with the home team going Leafs.

Stars(11-7-2) vs Rangers(10-8-2)

The Stars are heating up and this could be another game the Rangers upset a hot road team and continue to shock the league. Usually don’t like to talk about betting these games since I am a Rangers fan but the Stars are coming together here. The Stars top guys are finally getting together with the addition of some depth scorers the Stars are going to be a shocking team to many. The Rangers are coming off a big win Saturday night vs Florida and the Stars are on a two-game win streak, 6-2-2 in their last ten vs the Rangers 7-2-1 in their last ten. This is going to be another 3-2 type of game, hate to sa it but going with the Stars.

Sabres(12-6-2) vs Penguins(7-8-3)

We did not expect this, a turn of events. The Sabres are the wagon team here on a five-game win streak vs the Penguins three-game losing streak. The Penguins are 2-7-1 in their last ten and the Sabres are 6-2-2 in their last ten. The Penguins allow 3.28 goals against mainly due to Matt Murray being absolutely terrible he’s been pulled in two games in the last two weeks. Carter Hutton and the Sabres allow just 2.8 goals against, both teams do score around 3 goals per game. Penguins edge them in the goals for by a tad but the Penguins statistical are looking better than the Sabres. I’d be shocked, extremely jaw dropping to see the Penguins continue down this road and continue to lose. I am going with the Penguins here tonight.

Capitals(9-7-3) vs Canadiens(11-6-3)

The Capitals are not off to a great start and the Canadiens are off to an unbelievable start, so another shocking matchup. The Capitals are coming into this game off a win vs Colorado and 5-4-1 in their last ten. As the Canadiens are on a two-game win streak and 5-4-1 in their last ten. The Canadiens give Price the nod, Price has a 2.92 goals against and .904 save percentage vs Holtby’s 3.24 GAA and .900 save percentage. This is going to be an interesting game last time these two met was beginning of the month the Canadiens won 6-4 in Washington. This time it is in Montreal where the Habs are 6-3-1 and the Capitals are 4-4-1 on the road. Tonight, I am going road warrior, going Capitals.

Lightning(14-5-1) vs Predators(14-5-1)

Game of the night? Probably two teams with identical records, absolute power houses of the NHL going at it head to head. Comes at a bad time for Tampa Bay because of no Andrei Vasilevskiy so this could be a 6-5 game potentially. Either way going to be a very solid game and potential cup preview… Anyways the Lightning are 7-2-1 on the road on a two-game win streak as the Predators are 6-3-0 on home ice and 6-3-1 in their last ten. The Predators average around 3.35 vs the Lightning’s league leading 3.65 goals for. Lightning allow 2.9 goals against vs the Predators league leading 2.3 goals against. The last time these two met was in the beginning of the month where the Predators won and they come to home ice the Predators where they are usually good. This could be two for the Predators. I am going to go Preds here.

Golden Knights(9-11-1) vs Flames(11-8-1)

The Flames and Knights last met at the end of last season where the Flames won 7-1. The Flames are coming into this game 6-3-1 in their lats ten coming off a win and the Knights are 4-6-0 in their last ten coming off a win Sunday night. The Knights are going with Malcolm Subban and the Flames go with David Rittich who is 6-1-0 on the year with a 1.92 goals against and .933 save percentage. So basically he has been the number one this year and the Flames are 5-3-1 on home ice vs the Knights 4-8-0 road record. I am going with the Flames this game Knights back to back Subban in net, Rittich is playing well, Flames are a solid team. Feel the Flames tonight.

NHL PICKS TUESDAY OCT. 30th

For a slow Monday consisting of two games, the NHL comes back with 11 games on Tuesday and a lot of good games. We are now 11 games into the season therefore it is still early which means some back ups will be in net, and there will be upsets for sure. Out of the 11 games on for Tuesday we are going to choose the six best picks.

Islanders(5-4-1) vs Pittsburgh(6-1-2)

The Islanders are coming off two big wins, a 6-1 win over Philadelphia and 2-1 win over Carolina to stay in the division and play the best. The Penguins, as always a powerhouse of the Metropolitan division and NHL. With an unbelievable array of forward talent and a decent goaltender the Penguins manage to find ways to win games. The Islanders have bounced back and forth between Robin Lehner and Tomas Griess. It seems Lehner will be in net for Tuesday’s matchup, Lehner is 3-2-1 with a 2.39 GAA, .929 save percentage and 1 shutout. As for the Penguins another mediocre start for Matt Murray, since Murray had those Stanley cup run performances he has not been the same. Murray is 4-1 with a 3.37 GAA, .910 save percentage and 1 shutout. On home ice for Pittsburgh, I’d have to say Pittsburgh will take this one. We can expect a 4-3 type of game, the Penguins can score goals and the only way the Islanders have a chance is if they keep up with that Pittsburgh offense.

Redwings(2-7-2) vs Blue Jackets(6-4-0)

The Red Wings have definitely been off to a rocky start this year winning only two games through their 11 games. They picked up a big win vs Dallas Sunday night and now travel to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets have not been a great team this year so this is not an “easy” pick but it is a safe one. Sergei Bobrovsky is 2-4-0 with a 3.87 GAA and .872 save percentage as we can tell there has been some trouble for Bob this season. The Blue Jackets are 10th in the league for goals against and goals for, therefore they can score but defending has been an issue. The Red Wings only score around 2.2 goals a game while Columbus can easily net 4 a game. I’d probably go Columbus with the spread to be honest.

Devils(5-2-1) vs Lightning(7-2-1)

The last time these two met was in the playoffs last year when the Lightning knocked out the Devils in six games to advance on. The Devils have been the same team from last year, a gritty, in your face, won’t quit type of team. Even without Corey Schneider the Devils back up and now starter Keith Kinkaid has looked great in net. Kinkaid is 5-2-1 with a 2.12 GAA, .925 save percentage and 2 shutouts. The Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy is 5-1-1 with a 1.83 GAA and .940 save percentage. Seems like it will be a goalie battle for sure. The Lightning’s offense averages around 3.20 goals a game with 32 goals for compared to the Devils 3.50 goals a game and 28 goals on the year. Two good offenses right now that are clicking but with two good goaltenders in net, and a rival brewing between these two, it will be a low scoring game. Devils at the end of the night in overtime.

Wild(6-2-2) vs Oilers(6-3-1)

The Oilers and Wild have similar records and pretty similar teams. The only edge the Wild have is that they have a little more offensive depth. The Oilers though have been playing a lot better than what they started last season like. They are coming off a big overtime win over Chicago and having won 4 of their last 6 games. The Wild are going to be going back to back on the road, therefore this will be a tough one for Minnesota. They are currently on a five-game win streak heading into Monday nights game. With Edmonton’s 29 goals for on the year and averaging 3 goals a game vs Minnesota’s 2.9 goals a game and 29 goals on the year. These two rank up nicely but with the Wild’s back up in most likely and Cam Talbot and a rested Edmonton team I am going Oilers.

Flyers(4-7-0) vs Ducks(5-5-2)

The Flyers have been struggling greatly recently they have lost their last three games and in those three loses they have scored a combined 2 goals while allowing 13 goals. The Flyers seem to be doing their usual Flyers play, come out extremely slow and make every Philly fan hate them and say they suck then come around All-Star break time they pick it up and go on a win streak. I would not be worried for the Flyers too much right now but if you are to look at this game and choose anyone it would have to be Anaheim on home ice. The Ducks like the Flyers are on a major skid at the moment, losing their last five games the Ducks need a slump buster game and this is the chance to do it for the team. Both struggling teams that need some confidence going, going with the Ducks and the over for this game.

Senators(4-4-2) vs Coyotes(5-5-0)

For some reason on paper this game seems like it is going to be a brutal game to watch but two young teams battling for some identity to their team. This game will be a lot better than most fans think. The Coyotes offense has averages 2.5 goals a game with 25 goals for while allowing 20 goals against and an average of 2 goals against. They do not score a lot but they defend extremely well. The Senators offense averages 3.50 goals for and 3.90 goals against, the opposite of Arizona score but can’t defend well. Two teams with almost identical records and a similar make up to their line up. This will be a 3-2 game at best I would have to say and I am favoring Coyotes here.

New Jersey Devils(10-4-2) vs Chicago Blackhawks(8-7-2)

The Devils are 1-2-2 in their last five games, the Hawks are 3-2-0 in their last five, the only concern with tonights match up though. The Blackhawks played last night away in Carolina, with a quick turn around and travel to Chicago, the Hawks will be slow to start. New Jersey is coming off two days rest, Kyle Palmeri is back in the lineup, but back up goaltender, Keith Kinkaid goes tonight. Hawks will have Corey Crawford in net after playing Anton Forsberg last night. The once successful Kane-Toews- Sharp ended rather shortly, as Richard Panik goes back to line one and Kane is playing with Ryan Hartman and Artem Anisimov. The Hawks blue line has been their biggest struggle, with little to no defensive depth this team has struggled greatly. Their offense has been a bit streaky but home ice should pay off well for the Hawks tonight. Just don’t count out New Jersey, as they keep all games tight and are coming off a win last night vs Florida. Hawks, 3-2.

Edmonton Oilers(6-9-1) vs Washington Capitals(9-7-1)

Edmonton continues to struggle, as this team is now 16 games in they currently sit 28th in the NHL if Edmonton continues this struggle it will be a tough ladder for this young team to climb up. The Capitals are coming off a big win vs rivals Pittsburgh Penguins. But Edmonton is going back to back, from a 1 p.m. start time yesterday to a 7 p.m. start time today, the quick turn around will give the Capitals time to jump on the Oilers quickly and dictate the game. I cannot imagine Edmonton to come out buzzing from the beginning, it may take a few minutes to get their legs under them. Look for Washington to get pucks on net early and really give the Oilers trouble in the defensive zone. Capitals, 4-2.

Tampa Bay Lightning(13-2-2) vs Anaheim Ducks(7-6-3)

Anaheim gets hit with another injury now, Ondrej Kase is on the IR, leaving them with more problems on the front end, luckily John Gibson tested negative for a concussion and will be thrown in net to take on the red-hot Lightning. The Lightning’s offense is the opposite of Anaheim’s as their top guns are performing and the forward depth is there, Brayden Point, Yanni Gourde, and Vladislav Namestnikov are all chipping and playing their roles remarkably. This game will either be a game Tampa Bay takes control or a game where they let Anaheim hang around and make this a tighter game than needed. Gibson is going to need to step up and play big time, possibly steal a game for the Ducks here, but something I do not see happening. The best move is to go with Lightning, 3-2.
