Pittsburgh Penguins(7-5-3) vs New Jersey Devils(6-8-1)
Two struggling clubs right now who would of thought at this point in the season these two teams would be where they are right now. The Penguins have slide to now 6th in Metropolitan division losing four of their last ten games. As the Devils are coming off a rough road trip having lost three-straight and now 8th in the Metropolitan division. The Penguins and Devils usually make for a great game, plus the Devils are home again, and I think they know how important getting out of the lose column is right now. They have Pittsburgh this week and still have Philadelphia, Detroit and Carolina upcoming, this could be a potential eight-game skid they don’t get going in the right direction. The Devils are good on home ice luckily picking up five of their six wins this season on home ice. Tonight I am going Devils with Keith Kinkaid in net and Casey DeSmith in the opposing net, going to be a low-scoring game.
Vancouver Canucks(10-7-2) vs New York Islanders(8-6-2)
The Islanders get a good test in the Canucks tonight, although the Canucks are coming into this game on a back to back and a Monday night loss to the Rangers. The Islanders are well rested last playing Saturday. The Islanders were on a hot streak until they have lost their last three games. Luckily they get Vancouver off a back to back which draws in Richard Bashman for his first start of the year. The Canucks have been a unexpected team this year they will for sure put up a good fight but I see the Islanders edging them here. The Islanders are also 3-1-2 on home ice vs Vancouver’s 5-5-2 road record. A hot Thomas Greiss, I like the Islanders tonight, money line as always.
Florida Panthers(6-5-3) vs Philadelphia Flyers(9-7-1)
The Flyers are getting a hot Florida team right now and a Florida offense that is clicking, which means the Flyers offense will need to be on tonight. Also calls for probably the over hitting. The Panthers are on a four-game win streak coming off a beat down vs Ottawa Sunday night and having scored four plus goals in all four of their recent wins. The Flyers on the other hand are coming off a big win vs Chicago making that three in a row for Philadelphia. Two extremely hot teams that have both their offenses clicking at a great rate right now. They both average the same amount of goals per game (3.29) but the Flyers allow more goals per game on average, Panthers power play is clicking at 21 percent. going to be a high scoring game, either go the over or go Florida.
Tampa Bay Lightning(12-4-1) vs Buffalo Sabres(9-6-2)
The Lightning are heading into Buffalo as what many think will be an easy win for Tampa Bay, the 9-6-2 Sabres will have something to say about that. The Sabres are on a two-game win streak, 5-2-1 on home ice as the Lightning are coming off a loss vs Ottawa and 5-1-1 on the road. The Lightning are clear power houses in the NHL but it is early in the year where anything can happen. The Sabres are 6-2-2 in their last ten compared to the Lightning’s 7-3-0 record. For some odd reason I feel a Sabres win, I just sense a solid game from Buffalo they are moments away from winning 10 games through the first 18 games in nearly 10 years. This is going to be a better game than many think. Sabres, money line.
Washington Capitals(7-6-3) vs Minnesota Wild(11-4-2)
The Capitals a little Stanley Cup hungover? Who knows but they have not looked like the Capitals team we saw in April and June. They are one a two-game losing streak a loss away from being .500 and struggling on the road right now with a 2-3-2 record. As the Wild are the opposite on a three-game win streak, 5-0-2 at home and 8-2 in their last ten games as the Capitals are 4-4-2 in their last ten. The Wild have been solid on both sides of the puck they are scoring goals this season consistently, Devan Dubnyk is playing great, the Wild’s defense seems to be clicking as well. Everything seems to be going right for Minnesota and I will not playing with that mojo, going Wild tonight.
Montreal Canadiens(9-5-3) vs Edmonton Oilers(8-8-1)
The Canadiens are coming into Edmonton as the Oilers are on a four-game slide and 5-5-0 on their last ten games. Over the Oilers losing streak they have managed to allow 17 goals while only scoring 6 goals. The Canadiens on the other hand have managed to score 17 goals over their last four games. The Canadiens can seem to score goals this year for some reason and have been doing it at a pretty consistent rate. Tonight Carey Price goes for Montreal as Edmonton goes Mikko Koskinen who is 3-1 with a 2.64 GAA and .915 save percentage. This is going to be an interesting game as the Oilers are struggling and the Canadiens may not be playing great hockey but they are scoring goals and keeping games close. I would be surprised to see the Oilers drop five straight, going Oilers tonight, money line.
Nashville Predators(13-3-1) vs San Jose Sharks(9-6-3)
I feel like my unpopular opinion picks continue on with this one. I like the Sharks to be honest, they have played some good teams but this is a team they were ranked next to at the beginning of the year as the Predators are just storming through the league. This is a great test to see if San Jose is the real deal or has signs of being a Cup contending team. They have not shown many signs of consistency and Cup contending hockey this year so far but this is game where the Sharks can take and build some major confidence from. The Sharks coming into this game coming off a win vs Calgary and also winning three of their last four games. The Predators are not just a home team this year they are a road team as well as they are 8-0-1 on the road losing their only road game in a shootout vs Anaheim Monday night. Juuse Saros gets the nod tonight and Martin Jones for San Jose, I think this is a good test for San Jose they want to be the best have to beat the best. Going Sharks, over.
Other games on tonight;
Arizona vs Detroit: Please Arizona every time I go against you, you win. So I am going with you this time. Going Yotes.
Toronto vs Los Angeles: Going Toronto, that goalie situation in LA is rough.
