Pittsburgh Penguins(7-5-3) vs New Jersey Devils(6-8-1)

Two struggling clubs right now who would of thought at this point in the season these two teams would be where they are right now. The Penguins have slide to now 6th in Metropolitan division losing four of their last ten games. As the Devils are coming off a rough road trip having lost three-straight and now 8th in the Metropolitan division. The Penguins and Devils usually make for a great game, plus the Devils are home again, and I think they know how important getting out of the lose column is right now. They have Pittsburgh this week and still have Philadelphia, Detroit and Carolina upcoming, this could be a potential eight-game skid they don’t get going in the right direction. The Devils are good on home ice luckily picking up five of their six wins this season on home ice. Tonight I am going Devils with Keith Kinkaid in net and Casey DeSmith in the opposing net, going to be a low-scoring game.

Vancouver Canucks(10-7-2) vs New York Islanders(8-6-2)

The Islanders get a good test in the Canucks tonight, although the Canucks are coming into this game on a back to back and a Monday night loss to the Rangers. The Islanders are well rested last playing Saturday. The Islanders were on a hot streak until they have lost their last three games. Luckily they get Vancouver off a back to back which draws in Richard Bashman for his first start of the year. The Canucks have been a unexpected team this year they will for sure put up a good fight but I see the Islanders edging them here. The Islanders are also 3-1-2 on home ice vs Vancouver’s 5-5-2 road record. A hot Thomas Greiss, I like the Islanders tonight, money line as always.

Florida Panthers(6-5-3) vs Philadelphia Flyers(9-7-1)

The Flyers are getting a hot Florida team right now and a Florida offense that is clicking,  which means the Flyers offense will need to be on tonight. Also calls for probably the over hitting. The Panthers are on a four-game win streak coming off a beat down vs Ottawa Sunday night and having scored four plus goals in all four of their recent wins. The Flyers on the other hand are coming off a big win vs Chicago making that three in a row for Philadelphia. Two extremely hot teams that have both their offenses clicking at a great rate right now. They both average the same amount of goals per game (3.29) but the Flyers allow more goals per game on average, Panthers power play is clicking at 21 percent. going to be a high scoring game, either go the over or go Florida.

Tampa Bay Lightning(12-4-1) vs Buffalo Sabres(9-6-2)

The Lightning are heading into Buffalo as what many think will be an easy win for Tampa Bay, the 9-6-2 Sabres will have something to say about that. The Sabres are on a two-game win streak, 5-2-1 on home ice as the Lightning are coming off a loss vs Ottawa and 5-1-1 on the road. The Lightning are clear power houses in the NHL but it is early in the year where anything can happen. The Sabres are 6-2-2 in their last ten compared to the Lightning’s 7-3-0 record. For some odd reason I feel a Sabres win, I just sense a solid game from Buffalo they are moments away from winning 10 games through the first 18 games in nearly 10 years. This is going to be a better game than many think. Sabres, money line.

Washington Capitals(7-6-3) vs Minnesota Wild(11-4-2)

The Capitals a little Stanley Cup hungover? Who knows but they have not looked like the Capitals team we saw in April and June. They are one a two-game losing streak a loss away from being .500 and struggling on the road right now with a 2-3-2 record. As the Wild are the opposite on a three-game win streak, 5-0-2 at home and 8-2 in their last ten games as the Capitals are 4-4-2 in their last ten. The Wild have been solid on both sides of the puck they are scoring goals this season consistently, Devan Dubnyk is playing great, the Wild’s defense seems to be clicking as well. Everything seems to be going right for Minnesota and I will not playing with that mojo, going Wild tonight.

Montreal Canadiens(9-5-3) vs Edmonton Oilers(8-8-1)

The Canadiens are coming into Edmonton as the Oilers are on a four-game slide and 5-5-0 on their last ten games. Over the Oilers losing streak they have managed to allow 17 goals while only scoring 6 goals. The Canadiens on the other hand have managed to score 17 goals over their last four games. The Canadiens can seem to score goals this year for some reason and have been doing it at a pretty consistent rate. Tonight Carey Price goes for Montreal as Edmonton goes Mikko Koskinen who is 3-1 with a 2.64 GAA and .915 save percentage. This is going to be an interesting game as the Oilers are struggling and the Canadiens may not be playing great hockey but they are scoring goals and keeping games close. I would be surprised to see the Oilers drop five straight, going Oilers tonight, money line.

Nashville Predators(13-3-1) vs San Jose Sharks(9-6-3)

I feel like my unpopular opinion picks continue on with this one. I like the Sharks to be honest, they have played some good teams but this is a team they were ranked next to at the beginning of the year as the Predators are just storming through the league. This is a great test to see if San Jose is the real deal or has signs of being a Cup contending team. They have not shown many signs of consistency and Cup contending hockey this year so far but this is game where the Sharks can take and build some major confidence from. The Sharks coming into this game coming off a win vs Calgary and also winning three of their last four games. The Predators are not just a home team this year they are a road team as well as they are 8-0-1 on the road losing their only road game in a shootout vs Anaheim Monday night. Juuse Saros gets the nod tonight and Martin Jones for San Jose, I think this is a good test for San Jose they want to be the best have to beat the best. Going Sharks, over.

Other games on tonight;

Arizona vs Detroit: Please Arizona every time I go against you, you win. So I am going with you this time. Going Yotes.

Toronto vs Los Angeles: Going Toronto, that goalie situation in LA is rough.

Vancouver Canucks(9-6-1) vs Boston Bruins(8-4-2)

The Bruins are coming into this game for their second home game of the week as the Canucks stay on the road coming from Detroit. Vancouver dropped a tough game to Detroit in a shootout, least they got a point. Tonight I do not foresee the Canucks having the same luck as Tuesday. The Bruins are one of the more defensively sound teams in the league the Canucks have been successful due to their 3 goals per game, 8th ranked shooting percentage and almost20 percent power play. I see the Bruins playing a solid game here tonight only allowing one game to Dallas Tuesday and with a hot Jaroslav Halak in net the Bruins are the better team all around here and I think they take this one easy. This game looks like the Bruins have to cover a 1.5 goal spread, -240 and over/under of 5.5. My advice is either stay away from the game or go money line. Not much value in this game but the Bruins are going to win and the game will be close. Maybe the under.

Edmonton Oilers(8-6-1) vs Florida Panthers(3-5-3)

The Panthers are starting their three-game home stand after returning to the US from their Global Series games. The Panthers are not off to a great start they have struggled to be consistent, hold leads and get much offensive production going. While they do rank 3rd in shots on goal with 34.8 they also rank 27th in shooting percentage(8.6) on top of that they allow 3.55 goals per game and take near the most penalties in the game. Very inconsistent to start, as Edmonton is a capable of 3 goals a game, and has one of the more efficient power plays, it will be Florida staying out of the box and capitalizing on the chances they are given. I see this game being an under type of game, the Oilers are coming off a loss to Tampa Bay Tuesday as the Panthers have not played since last week. Low scoring game in my eyes, Panthers take the edge here though. Lines look like Panthers are covering a 1.5 goal spread (no), -125 and over/under of 6, going under for sure and Panthers.

Arizona Coyotes(7-6-0) vs Philadelphia Flyers(7-7-1)

Usually I would over look this game and not go with it but these two teams play out to be a good match up the Coyotes are hot right now although losing their last game to the Flyers except the roles have reversed and the Flyers are home this time. The Coyotes also have Antti Raanta on the IR so Darcy Kuemper gets the load of starts now until he is back. The Flyers goaltending is well the Flyers, this will be an under type of game I think. The Flyers scored 5 last game on this team and the over hit, turn around three days later and I can’t see either team scoring each 3 goals, I see this being a 3-2 game. I am also leaning towards the Yotes here…

New York Islanders(8-4-2) vs Tampa Bay Lightning(11-3-1)

The Islanders get a good test tonight in one of the best teams in the NHL as the Islanders have been hot from the start they play a team that can end their streak and bring them down to earth. Yet they can’t be overlooked, the Devils came in just a week ago to Tampa and scored five on them, which the Islanders can do the same. Tonight the Lightning are going with Andrei Vasilevskiy who has a 1.98 goals against and has allowed more than 3+ goals only two times this year. The Islanders Robin Lehner seems to be healthy and ready to be back for tonight. Which worries me a little although he was not sidelined for a while, first game back against a very good offensive team that scores around 3.6 goals per game and throws 34.6 shots on net per game. Lehner will have hands full, I am going with the Lightning here. Tough one but Lightning home ice seems to never be a bad choice. Lightning are to cover a 1.5 goal spread, -220 money line and over/under six. Probably go money line or spread.

San Jose Sharks(8-4-3) vs Dallas Stars(8-6-1)

For some reason I look at this game and I see overtime or past regulation. I think this will be a competitive back and forth game, there will be no one team dominating and the goaltender keeping them in net. The Stars are coming off a tough loss in Boston as the Sharks are coming off a big win vs Minnesota. Both are playing pretty good hockey right now and both could use some momentum with a win tonight. It will be a low scoring game, both Martin Jones and Ben Bishop draw in the net for tonight, plus both teams are pretty solid defensively only allowing 2.6 goals per game and around 30 shots or less on net per game, they defend well and both seem to score only 3 goals per game or less. I see the under in this game hitting, I think we see a 2-1, 3-2 overtime game.

Minnesota Wild(8-4-2) vs Los Angeles Kings(5-8-1)

The Kings are coming off a big win vs Anaheim Tuesday night as the Wild are coming off a loss to San Jose and stay on the road to play L.A. for another Western Conference battle. The Wild have been a very solid team this year, defending well, getting good goaltending and scoring around 3 + goals per game. The Kings on the other hand have trouble scoring and defending this year. This is a game the Wild need to win because they play Friday night as well and they drop all three on this West Cost road trip, not a good sign for the team. I see the Wild winning big here, over under is 5.5 and they are giving a 1.5 goal spread to start but -115 money line. Over and spread for tonight.

Other games on tonight:

Vegas vs Ottawa: Vegas needs a win, here’s their chance to get it.

Carolina vs Chicago: First game under new head coach for Chicago, on home ice. I like Chicago.

Buffalo vs Montreal: Tough, stay away.

FREE NHL Picks: October 25th, 2018

HOLY HELL, we are back! It has been a minute! I can’t wait to win you all some money as well as myself. Going to be an unreal year, if you’re a loser don’t please leave, only winners here. Let’s get into it though, there’s 8 games tonight, going to give you four picks, four good picks, no garbage picks.

Philadelphia Flyers(4-5-0) vs Boston Bruins (5-2-2)

This one is an easy one to me, we have Boston at home(-160), Philadelphia on the road who have been struggling lately, coming off a home loss vs Colorado and just having some issues scoring goals, the Bruins are for sure the easiest choice. The city of Boston is booming right now, the Bruins will ride that Boston sports wave. The Flyers allow 4.11 goals per game (30th in the league) while scoring 3.33 per game, against a Bruins offense when you allow 4+ goals a game it will be hard to compete. The Bruins allow just 2.67 goals per game(9th in the league). In every aspect of the game the Bruins have an edge on the Flyers. With Tuukka Rask to start vs Brian Elliot (3.59 GAA and .882 save percentage). Riding Boston. Boston is -1.5, -160 and an over/under of 5.5, I’d go with the money line.

Montreal Canadiens(5-1-2) vs Buffalo Sabres(5-4-0)

May be an unpopular opinion but the Canadiens are clearly hot right now and coming out way better than anyone has expected. They are third in the Atlantic averaging 3.25 goals per game while only allowing 2.63 goals against. Registering 33.8 shots on net with a power play percentage of 20.6(17th) they are hot and playing well. But the Sabres are not a bad team either, while they only score 2.44 goals per game, while allowing 2.78 goals per game, looking at the Sabres numbers thus far they rank up similar to Montreal expect the Canadiens offense seems to be off to a hotter start. But with Antti Niemi in net tonight, and Buffalo at home, I like Buffalo tonight. Buffalo is -1.5 spread, -130 and over/under of 5.5. I believe the over could hit but, 6 goals with these two teams is tough, I’d stick Buffalo money line.

Los Angeles Kings(2-6-1) vs Minnesota Wild(3-1-2)

Another unpopular pick but the Kings certainly have not been playing well they are off to a rocky start and Jonathan Quick has not looked like himself at all this season so far with a 4.55 goals against and .845 save percentage and not a single win. I think tonight is the night Quick gets his first win after taking two terrible losses. The Kings offense plus Quick’s poor start it has been rough but putting all numbers aside the Kings can come into tonight and take a win. Quick will wake up and bounce out of this funk. With Los Angeles +1.5 spread, +145 money line and over/under 5.5, I’d go under if anything and money line for LA.

Washington Capitals(4-2-2) vs Edmonton Oilers(3-3-1)

The Capitals got a big win in Vancouver Tuesday night and continue their Canadian road trip in Edmonton now, and Edmonton got beat bad vs Pittsburgh Tuesday night. Having a lead and losing it, to having Sidney Crosby single handily dismantle the Oilers defense in overtime to take a win on their home ice. I doubt Edmonton allows that to happen again. Edmonton has looked pretty solid this year, despite having an offense only scoring 2.57 goals per game, but their special teams have looked great, they are 100% capable of handling their own especially on home ice. After taking Pittsburgh to overtime to lose the way they did, I doubt they let two home games slip through their fingers. Going with Edmonton tonight. Oilers is +1.5 spread, +105 money line, and over/under of 6, probably the over and money line for Edmonton tonight is a good choice.

All we needed was a Canadiens overtime win to have a pretty decent night last night, but no, of course, Zach Werenski is left WIDE open in the high slot, may have just gave him an empty net. Anyways, we went even for the night, and tonight features three small games, all games are out of conference play, these nine teams rarely meet each other throughout the regular season.

New York Rangers(9-7-2) vs Chicago Blackhawks(8-8-2)

The Rangers are looking to make it seven games in a row, as the Blackhawks are looking to not dip their record below .500. Playing at the United Center will not be easy for the Rangers but they have been scoring at will and the Blackhawks fragile blueline will be something the Rangers will need to take advantage of. The Blackhawks are still trying to find some consistency in their offensive lines as Coach Quenneville has been mixing and matching players up, but it seems Anisimov, Kane are together and Saad and Toews are back together the RW and LW on both lines are pretty flexible, Debrincat or Sharp can step and play on either line. The Hawks forward depth make them a scary team but tonight will come to the power play as the Rangers rank third in the league and the Hawks rank 28th, whoever can cash in on the man advantage will have a good chance in tonight’s NBCSN match up. Going Rangers, 4-3.

Calgary Flames(10-7-0) vs Detroit Red Wings(8-8-2)

The Flames erupted for seven goals against one of the best teams in the NHL, but now they travel to Detroit, where they are 4-2 on the road this season. The Flames are coming off a six-game homestand and now hit the road for a six-game road trip.  The Flames have seen production from Johnny Gaudreau that has been remarkable, and it seems when Johnny hockey is on, the Flames offense comes to play. The Red Wings shockingly have seen solid production from their rookies/prospects as well as some veterans, but their defense lacks the capability, which leaves me wary picking Detroit. If Mike Smith is out, this matchup can change, but Smith in the net or not, going Calgary, 3-2.

Boston Bruins(6-6-4) vs Anaheim Ducks(7-7-3)

Two very injury-riddled teams that are battling through major injuries to their top guys, but it seems David Krejci and Brad Marchand are slotted in the line up for tonight as the Ducks are still without Cam Fowler(should start skating soon), but two teams that have battled through injuries all year. The good thing about this matchup Tuukka Rask and John Gibson are both getting the starts, and for two teams that struggle to score goals and rank in the bottom of the league for goals for. We can expect this to be a low scoring game. The Bruins have a healthier blue line, which is where teams see success in games from the blueline out. The Ducks are slotting Derek Grant on their first line and Chirs Wagner on their second line, they are hurting. I’m still going Ducks, 3-2.

FREE NHL PICKS OF THE NIGHT; November 12, 2017

New Jersey Devils(10-4-2) vs Chicago Blackhawks(8-7-2)

The Devils are 1-2-2 in their last five games, the Hawks are 3-2-0 in their last five, the only concern with tonights match up though. The Blackhawks played last night away in Carolina, with a quick turn around and travel to Chicago, the Hawks will be slow to start. New Jersey is coming off two days rest, Kyle Palmeri is back in the lineup, but back up goaltender, Keith Kinkaid goes tonight. Hawks will have Corey Crawford in net after playing Anton Forsberg last night. The once successful Kane-Toews- Sharp ended rather shortly, as Richard Panik goes back to line one and Kane is playing with Ryan Hartman and Artem Anisimov. The Hawks blue line has been their biggest struggle, with little to no defensive depth this team has struggled greatly. Their offense has been a bit streaky but home ice should pay off well for the Hawks tonight. Just don’t count out New Jersey, as they keep all games tight and are coming off a win last night vs Florida. Hawks, 3-2.

Edmonton Oilers(6-9-1) vs Washington Capitals(9-7-1)

Edmonton continues to struggle, as this team is now 16 games in they currently sit 28th in the NHL if Edmonton continues this struggle it will be a tough ladder for this young team to climb up. The Capitals are coming off a big win vs rivals Pittsburgh Penguins. But Edmonton is going back to back, from a 1 p.m. start time yesterday to a 7 p.m. start time today, the quick turn around will give the Capitals time to jump on the Oilers quickly and dictate the game. I cannot imagine Edmonton to come out buzzing from the beginning, it may take a few minutes to get their legs under them. Look for Washington to get pucks on net early and really give the Oilers trouble in the defensive zone. Capitals, 4-2.

Tampa Bay Lightning(13-2-2) vs Anaheim Ducks(7-6-3)

Anaheim gets hit with another injury now, Ondrej Kase is on the IR, leaving them with more problems on the front end, luckily John Gibson tested negative for a concussion and will be thrown in net to take on the red-hot Lightning. The Lightning’s offense is the opposite of Anaheim’s as their top guns are performing and the forward depth is there, Brayden Point, Yanni Gourde, and Vladislav Namestnikov are all chipping and playing their roles remarkably. This game will either be a game Tampa Bay takes control or a game where they let Anaheim hang around and make this a tighter game than needed. Gibson is going to need to step up and play big time, possibly steal a game for the Ducks here, but something I do not see happening. The best move is to go with Lightning, 3-2.

FREE NHL PICKS; November 9, 2017

Edmonton Oilers(5-8-1) vs New Jersey Devils(9-4-1)

(Full Look: Edmonton -125 vs New Jersey +105, Over/Under 5.5)

With Edmonton -125 and Devils on home ice plus, please someone jump on this game and take the Devils. The Oilers look terrible right now and the Devils are scoring at will, unlike the Oilers. But the over/under at 5.5 is steep the Oilers are struggling to score goals ranking 32nd in goals for but the Devils are 11th with 48 goals for, so the possibility of six goals is a chance, I’d go under and Devils, 3-2.

Chicago Blackhawks(7-6-2) vs Philadelphia Flyers(7-6-2)

(Full Look: Chicago +100 vs Philadelphia -110, over/under 5.5)

Basically a push in terms of the favorite, but Chicago plus while Flyers are home is odd, that will change I’m sure, monitor it. Over/under 5.5 is a sure hit, this game will be a 4-3, 4-2 game. Both offenses are due for a breakout game and with Chicago pairing Sharp-Toews-Kane together that line is due, and with the Flyers top line combining for 50 plus points, sure six-goal total. As far as the win goes, the Blackhawks shutout the Flyers 3-0, November 1st earlier this month, won’t happen again. Flyers will take this home on home ice, 4-2.

Arizona Coyotes(2-13-2) vs St. Louis Blues(12-3-1)

(Full Look: Arizona +195 vs St. Louis -235, over/under 5.5)

You would have to be a jackwagon to take this game, to be honest, there is no reward in it unless you drop money on Arizona which in that case is a waste because they are going to lose. The only thing I can see in this game is to take the over and not the game, without a doubt St. Louis will bury four goals and Coyotes can probably score two or three goals. Clayton Kellers 11 goals this season is an indication the Coyotes are capable of slotting three goals, and the Blues well Tarasenko-Schenn-Schwartz are basically automatic. Blues with over.

Detroit Red Wings(8-7-1) vs Calgary Flames(8-7-0)

(Full Look: Detroit +145 vs Calgary -165, over/under 5.5)

Please go Detroit tonight, at +145, hell yeah. The Flames have proved nothing this far and the Red Wings have shown that they can hang with the top teams in the NHL. The Flames have been inconsistent and for the record, they have identical records, basically. The Red Wings have three rookies in the mix of their forward production on top of Tomas Tartar, Gustav Nyquist, and Henrik Zetterberg. I like the Flames forwards but they have not seen production from needed players and their back end has not lived up to expectations. Red Wings at a plus, I like, but 5.5 I don’t, go Red Wings under.

Vancouver Canucks(8-5-2) vs Anaheim Ducks(6-6-3)

(Full Look: Vancouver +125 vs Anaheim -145, over/under 5.5)

Well, like Vancouver at +125, I don’t mind that and it is worth the gamble especially with a Ducks injury-riddled team the Canucks have a chance to steal one on the road. A producing Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser the Canucks have a chance. But again the Ducks have some forward depth and strong defenseman on the roster right now. The only concern here is John Gibson will most likely be out for tonight. Which in that case, missing two top six forwards, top four defensemen, and number one goaltender. I like the Canucks at +125, take it. Coming off a 5-3 vs Calgary the Canucks can get it done. Canucks with the under.

Washington Capitals(8-6-1) vs Buffalo Sabres(4-8-2)

Tuesday game of the night, as Washington gets ready for back to back and long travel early this morning. The Capitals are doing better than most believed to be doing at this point, well me at least. Although they barely beat the worst team in hockey, Arizona last night they face the other worst team in hockey now tonight. Buffalo, I really am at a lost for words, I just do not know how to assess this team anymore. Their biggest concern needs to be defense though. Which is a reason this team will struggle, as they are ranked third in goals against, vs the Capitals who average three goals a game. Easy choice tonight, as Buffalo has won one game at home this season. Capitals, 4-1.

St. Louis Blues(11-3-1) vs New Jersey Devils(9-3-1)

The Devils have yet to record their 10th win of the year and have dropped their last two games. The most concerning aspect of the Devils for me right now is the production of Brian Gibbons, the fact he leads the team in goals is alarming, when his production slows(which it will), the Devils need someone else to do the scoring. But this is a battle between two top teams in the NHL right now, the Blues have stormed out the gate and have worked their way into early(VERY) Stanley Cup talk, while the Devils are trying to stay afloat as a top NHL team. Blues, 3-2(SO).

Edmonton Oilers(4-8-1) vs New York Islanders(8-5-1)

The Islanders seem to have everything figured out on the front end, Josh Bailey is firing away, Matthew Barzal is off to a nice start and other key factors are stepping up as well. Where for the Oilers no one on this team has played well, including Connor McDavid. Leon Drastali when healthy has not been great, Cam Talbot has been abysmal and the Oilers are dying to find any answers. I’m not sure if a hot team vs New York is the time for the Oilers to resurge their year, and looking at their schedule playing the tri-state area teams this team will struggle a ton. Islanders, 3-2.

Florida Panthers(4-7-2) vs Carolina Hurricanes(4-5-3)

Florida is a team that continues to disappoint, in my eyes at least but they did face a setback with Roberto Luongo going down with an injury, but he is back now and they have their faithful number, one goalie, back. The only concern for Florida is holding onto games and closing them out, they are a team with a solid top six and three good defenseman but have struggled to win games. Where Carolina is the same way expect offensive production from Jeff Skinner, Sebastian Aho has not been there all year. I like the Hurricanes but with Luongo against the Hurricanes could be a potential big win for the old netminder. Panthers, 3-2.

Vegas Golden Knights(9-4-1) vs Montreal Canadiens(6-8-1)

Vegas is 1-3-1 on their road trip and they now face a Montreal team that has won four of their last five games and now Vegas is coming in versus another hot team. The Golden Knights are looking at a possible loss, never having played in Montreal the atmosphere will be different for the young team. With the way, Montreal has played they should have no problem vs Vegas. It will be a battle of back up goaltenders and Maxime Legace takes on Charlie Lindgren, Vegas has shown signs of offensive explosiveness as Montreal has too in recent games. This will be a close game and will come down to the wire. Montreal, 3-2.
